About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Emma Pugh

We had a plan 5 years before we retired to move to France and that day finally came in August 2014! We both worked in the forces and dreamed of having a small holding in a peaceful location, growing our own vegetables and keeping a few animals. We have a few sheep and pigs and have had a bumper crop of vegetables this year, which we offered to guests staying in the gite. We thoroughly enjoy the lifestyle Brittany provides us it's extremely peaceful and more than we dreamed of.

Year property purchased 2014
Why this location? We loved the fact that although we feel totally rural it's a perfect location to explore, we are close to all the coastlines and only an hour to Brest or 40 minutes to Quimper a beautiful city steeped in history, we are also in the Park d'Armonique which has amazing landscapes to explore, we feel we have everything we need nearby and come home to a beautiful secluded spot with only the birds and trees making any noise.
Unique benefits of property As I said above everything you could want is within easy reach, all our guests have said that they have never felt so relaxed and that is exactly how we want all our guests to feel, we renovated the gite ourselves with great care and thought for comfort, keeping original features also. A starter pack is provided free of charge for your convenience on arrival such as milk, water, tea, coffee and of course a bottle of wine!

Lovely quiet setting with a comfortable and well appointed gite . Could not fault it Emma & Gethin who could not have been more welcoming and helpful. Even the weather was kind with no rain until the last day of our 4 night stay.Would heartily recommend.

Just returned from our stay in this idyllic gite, set in the beautiful Brittany countryside. We had a wonderfully warm welcome from Emma & Gethin, who were on hand to give all the help and information needed to get the very best from our holiday. The location is perfect for exploring the area, and the roads are very quiet, no traffic jams! The gite is very well equipped, and would be Equally lovely in the summer, with the beautiful garden and views,or in the winter, with the cosy wood burner. We will most definitely be returning.

Owner response

Thank you very much for taking the time to review the gite, we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay. We look forward to your return visit, when you can further explore Brittany.

We had a brilliant stay at the Ty Penguilly Gite. Great hosts who gave us a warm welcome when we arrived. The Gite was well maintained, spacious and comfortable in beautiful surroundings. We were given lots of helpful advice about local amenities and places to visit. We will definitely return and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to any future visitors. The quiet roads in this area would be particularly suitable for both motorists and cyclists.

Owner response

Thank you very much for taking the time to review the gite, we are so glad you enjoyed your stay and the sights Brittany has to offer.

Ty Penguilly is a real 'get away from it all' gite - it is in a rural location, so local amenities are a short drive away, It's location is perfect for anyone wishing to explore western (or northern or southern!) Brittany, being within 45 minutes by car of dramatic coastlines and sandy beaches, interesting towns and bustling ports, with many beautiful villages and countryside in between. Our visit was only a short break but we found Huelgoat absolutely delightful - Creperie les Myrtilles is well worth a visit for a delicious lunch, with more unusual galette & crepe fillings.
The gite is comfortably furnished and spacious enough for a family of four - watch out for low ceilings in the bedrooms! It is equipped with virtually everything you need for self-catering, though a dishwasher would have been welcome (I hate washing up!). There is a lovely little patio area for outside dining, too.
Emma & Gethin couldn't be more welcoming as hosts, on hand to answer questions and keeping you supplied with produce from their lovely garden.
We had a lovely break & look forward to a return visit!
