Ecluse de Meros was built in 1810 in tradional stone as part of Napoleon's upgrade of the river to a canal. The purpose was to carry troops and materials to overcome the British blockade of the French ports.
The cottage is one of the most beautiful along the whole of the canal. It is a perfect place for fishing, canoing, boating and swimming. There are 300km of level towpath for walking and cycling. We provide fishing rods and permits are available in the village.
