Boat excursions

Visit L'Île de Batz by taking a small passenger ferry ride from Roscoff and see it's unusal plants by foot or on bicycle. From Carantec, Le Château du Taureau is well worth the visit to find out some local history. You can also do a tour of the beautiful Baie de Morlaix and make sure you take your binoculars to experience the wide range of rare birds that the Baie is renowned for.

Drinking and eating

The market in Carantec every Thursday and the market in Morlaix on a Saturday, to buy fresh local produce and holiday souvenirs. Demais and Ty Fournil are the two local boulangeries, which are excellent for baguette and French pastries. O'Gourmandise Chocolatier, for exceptional desserts and chocolates. L'Abri du Pêcheur and Le Cabestan, both in the old port of Carantec which is a picturesque 10 min walk, have stunning views of L'Île Callot and St Pol de Léon at sunset. Both these restaurants serve delicious local seasonal seafood and other fresh produce.

Local walks

L'Île Callot is a ten minute walk from the house, and is well worth the visit. It is a tidal island and cars may not be permitted during summer months, so do check tide times carefully. The unspoilt plant life and beaches make it an excellent and unmissable destination for a picnic. More towards the centre of Brittany, Huelgoat offers beautiful forest walks steeped in Celtic legends and mysteries. The Sentier des Douaniers offers spectacular views around the coast of Carantec, taking in L'Île Louet and plage Tahiti and you can also explore further afield.
