|Les Gites de Kerdalidec -The Longhouse||Self Catering||Flexible||5||9||3|
If you are looking for comfortable, self-catered, family accomodation set in prize-winning gardens, then the Longhouse is the perfect place for you. This beautiful old "longère" is full of rustic charm and simplicity.
A "maison noble" dating from 1543, the Longhouse is built of pink granite and used to be the boulangerie which served the local villagers. It is one of three cottages called 'Les Gîtes de Kerdalidec' which are situated 10 minutes walk from the village of Plougasnou where you will find a large supermarket, boulangerie, medical centre, tourist office, play-park, skate-park…in fact everything you could possible need. There is also an excellent restaurant at the end of our road which is only five minutes walk and has a good kid's menu.The clean sandy beach is only 1.5km away.
The Longhouse has it's own private, enclosed garden and sunny patio and also free access to the huge shared garden where you will find a children's play-area and animals to feed such as pigeons, chickens, guinea pigs and little black sheep.
The ground floor consists of one large room containing the luminous kitchen/dining area at one end and the cosy lounge at the other end with the wooden staircase in the middle.
The comfortable lounge is dominated by the original 500-yr-old, immense granite fire-place where you can still see traces of the ancient bread oven. You will find three sofas in the lounge – each with 3 places. The whole of the ground floor is tiled and there is a beautiful red persian carpet in front of the wood-burning stove in the lounge.
The kitchen is very well-equiped with a large 5-burner gas cooker/oven, a microwave, a dish-washer, a toaster and a cafetière and there is a large dining-table with bench seating for twelve. There are french-windows leading from the kitchen/dining-area out onto a patio with garden furniture for eating meals outside.There is also a cloakroom on the ground floor with toilet, basin, washing-machine and ironing facilities.
On the first floor we have kept the original oak floor boards and added rugs for warmth underfoot. There is a bathroom with bath, basin and WC and 3 bedrooms one with a single bed, one with a double bed and one with bunk beds. The bunk room also has children's books and toys! The bedrooms are carpeted.
In the attic are 2 further bedrooms which have attractive wood-panelled ceilings, one has a double bed and a cot while the other has 2 single beds. Both rooms are carpeted. On this floor there is a shower room with shower, sink and toilet.
Bed-linen can be provided at 8 euros per person payable when you are here. I am not equiped to provide towels for all my visitors but I am very happy to provide them free of charge for people arriving by plane or train.
For babies we can provide cots, high chairs and there are 3 stairgates
End of stay cleaning can be paid for if you don't wish to clean yourselves.

I have lived in France for 20 years in this beautiful area which I now think of as my home and my roots.
|Year property purchased||1996|
|Why this location?||This area is unspoilt and uncrowded. The rugged coast harbours many little hidden coves where you can swim in crystal-clear blue water.
|Unique benefits of property||Here you will find relaxation, beautiful gardens where the children can play safely, incredible sandy beaches, wonderful restaurants within walking distance.|
You can find a different clean sandy beach for each day of your holiday as there are many hidden coves here. In and around the village you will find horse-riding, wind-surfing, kayak hire, bicycle hire and fishing. There is a great surfing school for all ages, nearby in Locquirec. You can take a boat from the village quay to visit the Chateau de Taureau...a Napoleonic fort in the beautiful bay of Morlaix.
We have been holidaying in Brittany for many years and during that time stayed in many gites and holiday homes. I would have to say that this gite is one of the best. Everything from its location to the gite itself was just perfect. Debbie (the owner) was there to meet us on our arrival and is a absolutly lovely and has a wealth of local knowledge. The gite is superbly equipped, spotlessly clean and with everything you could need for your stay. There was only five of us but it's plenty big enough for double that amount of guests. The gardens have a menagerie of animals which my kids 22 & 24! Loved feeding every evening. Please don't book for the start of September as we have every intention of returning next year.
Thanks Mark for your lovely review. It was a pleasure to meet you and your family. Hope to see you again!
A lovely, interesting old house sympathetically restored. As comfortable and spacious as the advert suggested: such comfy beds - so often not the case, in our experience! The owner was the perfect hostess: a mine of useful local information and so helpful. She very kindly supplied us with anything and everything that we'd forgotten - we felt very well looked after. We would recommend the house to any and every one for a relaxing stay at any time of the year.
The house and gardens more than lived up to their description and were particularly well suited to the small grandchildren who would happily have spent their entire holiday "at home" in the Longhouse/gardens! We were, however, tempted out by the super local beaches, eateries and shops in this surprisingly beautiful corner of Brittany. So much more to do and see than a week allowed so ... we will just have to go back!
Nature-loving guests who made the most of the house and gardens and also explored this lovely, wild and unspoilt part of Brittany. They ate several times in the Creperie at the end of the road...only 5 minutes walk and delicious food.
We had a wonderful stay at the Longhouse. The property and facilities were as described and the kids loved it. Our oldest children - 5 and 7, both loved going to see the chickens and sheep and the house was very well equipped for them. The area was great and lots of amazing beaches just a 10-15 minute drive away. The owner was lovely and able to give us some good recommendations of places to eat and beaches to visit and really went out of her way to help us. We would definitely recommend staying here.
Thanks Jo...you are a lovely family. So glad you and the children found the shell beach with the tiny shells.
