About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Emma Beale

Having worked as a teacher for 20 years in the UK, I decided it was time for a change of lifestyle so in April 2018 I moved over to France with my husband. We live here full time in the farmhouse, renting out our gîte as a holiday cottage. We love this region and would be happy to recommend places to visit.

The Owner Recommends

The Town of Huelgoat

Local market on Thursday mornings, beautiful walks through the forest and along by the River d'Argent, fascinating rock formations such as the Devil's Cave and the Great Trembling Rock. Lunch at one of the crêperies or the Hôtel du Lac.

Valley of the Saints

On a remote hilltop in Carnöet, local sculptors have carved 100 giant statues of saints from slabs of Breton granite to celebrate the region's Christian heritage. The project was started by Breton philosopher Philippe Abjean and his goal is to create 1000 statues. Free entry and cafe on site.

Voies Vertes de France (Greenway routes)

This region has an extensive network of off road routes for cycling, walking and horse riding which are often on disused railway track beds and along towpaths. The V7 route from Roscoff to Concarneau passes through our village.

Monts d’Arrée

The Monts d’Arrée are Brittany's highest and oldest hills. The unspoilt landscape of moorland, marshes, rocks, heather and gorse makes this a great place for hiking, mountain biking and horse riding.

Beaches and Coast Paths

Brittany has a choice of stunning beaches and coastal paths within easy driving distance. A few of our favourites include Plage des Sables Blancs (Locquirec), La Grande Plage (Gâvres), Plage de Port-Manec'h (Névez) and Plage de Kervel (Plonevez-Porzay).

Historic Towns and Ports

Explore the history, shops and restaurants of some of our larger towns such as Morlaix, Vannes, Douaranenez, Quimper and Brest.

Abbaye de Bon Repos, Saint-Gelven

This 12th-century Cistercian abbey hosts regular exhibitions, a weekly farmers’ market on a Sunday morning and spectacular 'Son et Lumière' evening shows in August. Beautiful walks along the tow path of the Nantes-Brest canal. Bar and creperie. A narrow gauge railway has recently been restored and reopened at Gouarec with 'Le Petit Train' running to Bon Repos during the summer.

Local Festivals

Large festivals include ‘Vieilles Charrues’ music festival in Carhaix , Jazz festival at Châteauneuf de Faou, Festival de Cornouaille at Quimper, Maritime Festival at Douaranenez. Local villages also organise their own 'fêtes' during the summer months with refreshments and local musicians. Details can be found online and at local tourist offices.

We enjoyed our stay at Kerjézéquel at the end of July. The property was clean, spacious and well maintained. The gite was very comfortable and well equipped for our stay. The owners provided good customer service and gave us advice on local activities and days out. We enjoyed a couple of beach days (plage des Sables Blancs & Port Manec’h). At Port Manec’h you can hire water sport equipment and we enjoyed some paddle boarding. We loved this beach! We also enjoyed walking in Huelgoat, the local cycle tracks and lunch/kayaking on the L’Aulne. There was plenty to keep us busy!
I would recommend this property to friends & family. We had a lovely stay, thank you.

Owner response

Thank you for your lovely comments, much appreciated. We're glad you enjoyed the water sports and cycling. We have just discovered a great sailing school (English speaking) so if you come again maybe you could have a go at yachting? Best regards, Emma and Steve.
