About this property

Breton Longere, Heated pool, 2 Acre Garden, Coastal.. This cottage/gite is in a coastal setting.

The Wishing Stream:

At TheWishingSteam, we run self catering holidays in our 3 newly renovated breton cottages, all sharing a heated swimming pool, a flower filled sunny courtyard, a large grassed play area brimming with play equipment, and set in our 3 acres of secluded gardens, in a breathtaking location just 10 minutes' drive from a huge number of family friendly, stunning and unspoilt beaches and headlands.

We are also conveniently located just an hour and a half pleasant drive from Roscoff ferry terminal, along easy country roads.

Once here, you will find our local town, Plomodiern, just 5 mins away by car or 20 mins on foot, is extremely convenient for morning croissants, its friday morning market, several eateries, including a pizzeria, creperie and a michelin starred restaurant, and a handy, large supermarket for all your daily supplies.

Our own plot is in the little hamlet of Lescobet, very sleepy and peaceful, surrounded by farmland, woodland, and scrub, and right on the edge of the national park. This location, along with the added bonus of the little, tree lined stream which boarders the property, make our garden a haven for wildlife and a very restful retreat after a full day of touristic activity!

Our real bonus, though, is our convenient location to so many beaches and places of interest, from secluded coves to pleasure beaches, from the wild Menez Hom nature reserve to the postcard perfection of the historic town of Locronan. This is a relatively undiscovered part of coastal Brittany which will leave you wishing you could stay for longer!

As for our own cottages, we have renovated, decorated and run them with the principle of offering to our guests everything we would want in a holiday ourselves - family friendly, homely but luxurious, welcoming to babies, toddlers and pets as well as couples looking for a peaceful retreat. And of course, because we live on site, with our own two little girls and our little cat Pringles, we are always available for any advice, aid, or just a little chat. We have helped our guests with all sorts, from arranging vet visits to emergency doctor appointments, from advising restaurants to forwarding forgotten passports!

We also include many things free of charge that are normally provided at additional cost: high quality linen and towels, beach towels, all electricity and heating when appropriate, baby equipment, some basic kitchen supplies, hand soaps, Wifi in all rooms, the private gardens, courtyard and swimming pool, beach towels, pets welcome (but do ask first as we do have some conditions), and you will find a generous welcome pack during high season.

As a consequence, many of our guests enjoy themselves so much they return year after year and others recommend us to their friends.

Le Petit Renard:

You are currently looking at our advert for the newest cottage, Le Petit Renard, which we renovated in 2018.

Le Petit Renard is a lovingly restored longere full of charm and magic, decorated and designed completely by ourselves. We hope you will feel at home here.

There are three bedrooms, a king sized master, a twin and a single room. All feature beautiful exposed stone walls, luxurious decoration and hand painted, renovated antique furnishings. Linen has been carefully chosen to provide comfort and a feeling of luxury and is provided free of charge (along with fluffy bath towels and beach towels) and you will find the beds made on arrival.

There is room in the master bedroom for up to two cots, which we can supply along with linen and mattresses but you MUST let us know in advance if these are required, and we will accept one extra baby in addition to the 5 persons we advertise for.

The bathroom has a large luxurious bathtub plus integrated shower, heated towel rail, and discreet washing machine cupboard.

The living room has a high vaulted ceiling, exposed oak beams and the orginal breton bread oven, which would have serviced the old farm workers and villagers, has been preserved as a wonderful feature in exposed stone (not working of course!). The kitchen is new and fully equipped and there is a dining table for five people and sofas comfortably seating five. We have provided a pretty wood burning stove with all wood supplied free of charge, and there are also electric radiators throughout the longere which are available at no extra charge in the colder months.

In the living room you will find games, books, and DVDs. There is an excellent Wifi connection and, if you have children, we will leave a personalised toy box in the cottage for you. (we also have cots, high chairs, kid's cutlery, a baby bath, etc - just ask)

From the living area a double glass patio door leads to the patio and garden. This is your own private space and has a table and chairs for six, comfortable outdoor chairs and low table, a sun shade and bbq.

This private garden is bounded by a low stone wall prettily planted with flowers and just beyond this is the communal play area where we have plenty of equipment available for the kids (swings & slide, trampoline, football goals, soft archery, table tennis, swing ball, a garden wendy house). Beyond this are 2 acres of grounds, including a stream and this is bounded by woodland and farmland, making the gardens feel extremely secluded, peaceful and full of bird song.

The heated swimming pool is open from the start of May until early October. This pool is shared by our other properties (one other property between September and May, two other properties from May until September) and ourselves. It is heated to 28 degrees and is 5 x 8 m square and 1.5m deep. It is housed in the old roofless coachhouse, making it very sheltered and private, and we provide sunloungers on the deck, and inflatables.

Private parking is in the courtyard which is shared by our 2 other gites in high season and one other gite at other times.

About the Owner/Advertiser, Mr Stewart Morpurgo

Originally from Jersey, we have lived in Plomodiern with our two little girls for six years. We fell in love with the beautiful, uncrowded beaches and unspoilt coastline which we found in the area, and decided to live here permanently. We have made friends and enjoy a peaceful way of life, making the most of the wonderful beaches when work permits. We truly feel we have found a little slice of heaven!

Year property purchased 2012
Why this location? We love Plomodiern because of its accessability to a whole number of stunning beaches, the nearest of which is just a ten minute drive away on roads that are guaranteed traffic jam free! There is a different beach for every mood: surfing, swimming, rockpooling, kayaking, or you can seek out the little coves accessed only by narrow cliffpaths if you prefer.
We are also within easy reach of the busier beaches on the south coast, such as Pont Aven and Concarneau, for a daytrip, though we always breath a sigh when we get back home to our little idyl!
In summer, our village hosts traditional weekly Breton dances and a vibrant market day, plus the wonderful fete de Menez Hom in August, when visitors from the whole of Brittany wear their local costumes and dance through the streets.
Unique benefits of property With so many unspoilt beaches on our doorstep, find a beach for every mood: swimming, surfing, rockpooling, or discovering little coves. Our gite will suit all who enjoy exploring those havens off the beaten track.
For a daytrip, choose the more touristic beaches at Pont Aven, Concarneau, or Audiern, all just over an hour away. We will provide beach towels and parasols to make packing easier.
Alternatively, relax at the poolside or enjoy our tranquil gardens, which are edged by a pretty stream where kids can potter, and bordered by trees and a small woodland area. We provide sunloungers and barbecues for al fresco eating in luxury. Plenty of outdoor equipment is available plus swings and a trampoline and soft archery, and for the little ones, bikes for supervised cycling, toys and cot/highchair/buggy/carseat.
We have built a heated swimming pool within the walls of one of our beautiful ruined, roofless buildings. A terrace is available at the poolside for sunbathing.

The Owner Recommends

Cafe Kreizh Kerr in Plomodiern for formule lunches. Reservation essential
Auberge de Glazics in Plomodiern for fancy food. Michelin starred
l'Oasis in Pors Ar Vag for seafood. Reservation essential in summer
La Coq au Plafond in Plomodiern for Pizza's or Crepes. Takeaway possibble.

White sandy beaches at Lestrovet, Pors Ar Vague, st Anne de Palad, Pentrez, all within 10 mins drive and excellent for families.
Beaches all the way around the Crozon peninsular are varied and extremely beautiful.
Doarnanez has a pleasure beach and also a small harbour.
All these beaches are far quieter than the majority in Brittany and are safe to walk dogs at quiet times although occasionally a lead will be necessary.

Coastal walking

Most of our beaches have pretty coastal paths providing stunning views and suitable for all levels of walkers and dogs too.
There are also plenty of woodland walks which we can recommend to you when you arrive.

Historic town of Locronan

Locronan, one of our nearest towns (10mins away), has been rigorously preserved with all buildings in breton stone, and a number of very tasteful shops and galleries. It has some excellent restaurants, creperies, and regular evening markets during summer and the christmas period.

Quimper town and saturday market.

Quimper is our nearest large town (30 mins drive). Its elegant architecture is in traditional historic style, it has plenty of interesting boutiques, galleries, an indoor food market and very lively outdoor market on Saturday mornings. It is filled with creperies, restaurants and coffee shops and definitely worth a visit.

This amazing attraction comprises a huge gallery of aquariums with fish, seals, penguins and otters. There is also an outdoor area and cafe and plenty of shopping opportunity! Being mostly indoors it is perfect for a day when our skies are not so blue, and make sure to give yourselves plenty of time to look around - we always end up taking a whole day here!

Plomodiern (our local village)

Our local village has a surprising amount going on!
There is a boulangerie and fish market and a local supermarket discreetly located just beyond the center.
In summer the friday morning market really comes alive and there is also an evening market on Mondays with breton dancing, and refreshments available.
In August the Fete du Menez Hom lasts for three days with an art exhibition, and a day long procession, afternoon performances by breton dancers and evening festivities.
The Place de l'eglise also has several places to eat including a bar/restaurant, pizzeria with outdoor seating and, for a special occasion, the michelin starred Auberge de Glazics.

Visit the Crozon Peninsular

This beautiful area is crammed with beaches, museums, an acrobranch and maze, plus two beautiful coastal villages which both have plenty of places to stop for lunch or dinner. Cammeret Sur Mare has a pretty harbour and Crozon Morgat has a beautiful family beach with centers for water activities like kayaking, diving, and cave visits.

It takes around twenty minutes to reach the peninsular. Our guests are always impressed that our location provides easy access to this stunning area but is still accessible to most areas to the south.

Most of our guests take a trip to Houelguat during their stay. Located on the banks of a river, this pretty town provides access to the famous giant stones, woodland walks and the overgrown remains of a iron age celtic village.

Concarnou and Pont Aven

50 mins drive away, Concarnou is a wonderful day out with its walled island filled with shops, cafes and restaurants.
Pont Aven is a beautiful town located on the river's edge and brimming with art galleries and the Pont Aven museum. Visit Gaugin's house, the lodging house where he and other post impressionists lived their bohemian live style and founded modern art! What's more, the moulin by the river is an exceptional place to eat.

10 / 10 Catherine & Stuart 29 October, 2019

We stayed at Le Petit Renard with our 2 young boys, 20 months and 3 months. Right from the start everything was perfect. We were greeted by friendly hosts and a delicious welcome pack for our breakfast.

The gite itself was clean and very well equipped including the kitchen, it has everything you need for a holiday. 2 cots were provided for the boys along with lots of toys that were perfect for their age.

The large garden is beautiful with lots of things to do and explore, the hosts even changed the seat on the swing so it was suitable for the 20 month old. He would have been happy to spend the whole 10 days in the garden exploring and paddling in the stream.

I can't recommend this gite enough for a wonderful relaxing family holiday.

This is a beautiful holiday home and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house and the gardens are stunning. The owners are lovely and couldn't have been more hospitable. We recommend Le Petit Renard wholeheartedly!
