At first glance Bécherel seems to be like many other picturesque medieval Breton towns, with its rampart ruins and architectural gems. But don't be fooled; its quaint and sleepy streets host year-long activities celebrating the world of books. As well as housing 17 bookshops, Bécherel is home to everything from bookbinders and calligraphers workshops, to rare second hand book dealers.
Further leisure opportunities are provided by the château of Caradeuc, known as the Breton Versailles, as well as Brocéliande forest, of Arthurian legend. Further afield lie the towns of Rennes, Dinan and Combourg, all about half an hours drive away.
A really lovely setting, with a supermarket, a small selection of bars, cafes and restaurants. All very welcoming. Book shops, galleries, pretty village.
Close to many other places to visit. Many 20 minutes away.
House small but great for family with small children, no outside space but right on the town square. Well equipped kitchen and very clean.
Old character building with modern features.
No washing machine, iron or hairdryer.
A great holiday really felt part of the local Community and had a very enjoyable holiday, would really recommend.
Very glad you enjoyed your stay in Bécherel, and that you liked the house - your feedback has been very helpfull - we have now installed a washing machine, and provided an iron for future guests.
This cottage was beautifully converted and located in an atmospheric, friendly historic town location, perfect for art and book lovers and well placed for exploring the area. The cottage had timber beams and a log fire which was very romantic and a good sized kitchen area with a dish washer. The local tourist information with an art exhibtion area was brilliant and recommended some good local walks. .
