Garden Apartment 5 Minutes From Beach. This apartment is in a coastal town setting.

This smart and stylishly furnished 2 bedroom apartment occupies the ground floor of a a traditional stone-built 'Maison du Bourg'.
The house is on a road leading from the main shopping street of Saint Servan (the old port of Saint  Malo) to the esplanade at Quai Solidor and its only a 5 minute walk to both locations.
 
The apartment retains the old wooden beamed ceilings in each room and the original granite floor In the living room, but the kitchen, shower room and wc are tiled for easy cleaning. The bedrooms have wooden parquet floors with cotton rugs. All the walls are painted white and adorned with paintings of Saint Malo and Dinard by the artist/property owner.
 
A door from the living room opens onto a stone-paved sun patio with garden furniture. There is also a lawned rear garden with dining table, 4 chairs and sun parasol. Two portable sunloungers and a garden bbq are also provided. The separate kitchen is bright and modern with all electric appliances. Off the kitchen is a walk-in shower and a washing machine/tumbledryer. 
The living room has dining area with table and 4 chairs and a seating area furnished with an upholstered settee and chrome/leather armchairs. Theres a wide-screen television with both British and French channels available. A cd player is also provided and theres free wifi access.
 
A corridor leads to a wc with vanity unit and handbasin. In this corridor there is hanging space for clothes as well as a cabinet for storage. There are 2 bedrooms, one having a double bed and the other with twin (adult size) single beds.
 
On the street outside the front garden there is free street parking and also free parking on the roads in the close vicinity.

Kitchen and dining

The separate kitchen has all electric appliances including oven and microwave oven, fast-speed induction hobs, a steamer, kettle and toaster. There is a larder fridge with a small ice compartment. The sink and drainer are stainless steel. Plenty of cooking utensils, pots, pans, crockery and cutlery to suit a family/group of 4 people.

The dining area of the living room has an extending table and four dining chairs.

Living rooms

The living room is approximately 4x6m with the dining area at one end and seating area at the other end. A door opens onto a south facing stone-flagged patio with table and chairs for open air breakfasts.

Bedrooms

There are 2 bedrooms, one has a double bed, built-in wardrobe, storage drawers, bedside tables with lamps and a large dressing table/desk. The second bedroom has twin (adult size) beds, bedside table with lamp, dressing table, storage drawers and built-in wardrobe with handbasin.

Bathrooms

There is a shower room with vanity unit and handbasin plus a washing machine/tumbledryer. The separate wc has a vanity unit with handbasin.

Heating

There are radiators (electric) in each room.

Entertainment

The wide screen television has a satelite box for British channels and an Orange satelite box for French and International channels. There is also a cd player provided. There is free connection to wi-fi.

Garden and outside

A door from the living room opens onto a stone-flagged patio with table and chairs for open air breakfasts. There is a private part of the lawned rear garden with a larger table and chairs, suitable for lunches and evening dining. A garden parasol fits into the table. A garden bbq is provided as well as 2 portable sunloungers.

Parking and garages

On the street outside the front of the property there is free on-street parking. There is also free parking on the roads in the close vicinity.

Visitor suitability

Being a ground floor apartment this property is suitable for people who cannot climb stairs. The doorways are however of standard size, so may not be suitable for wheelchairs. We welcome children but do not provide cots or highchairs.

The apartment is close to several public parks. It's 5 minutes walk downhill to the beach and 5 minutes walk uphill to the shops, boutiques and cafe/bars.

About the Owner, Mrs Jennifer Howard

This property is our family holiday home in France. It's location, so close to Saint Malo Ferry Port means we can travel as foot passengers and save ferry costs for short breaks. There is an excellent local bus service to take us along the coast and there are trains to Dinan and Rennes.

Why this location? Saint Servan is the original port of Saint Malo and retains it's own identity, quite separate from the walled city, yet only a 15-20 walk away. With the Bay Solidor only a few hundred yards from our apartment we have the benefit of the quayside bars, cafés and restaurants that look out across the Rance estuary to Dinard. In the summer months we can take the water taxi across the bay to visit Dinard and explore that lovely town.
Unique benefits of property Our apartment Occupies the ground floor of this stone built town house. The double bedroom and living room have views of the walled front garden and the living room has a glazed door opening onto a private patio and rear garden beyond. This is a walled garden facing south-west and is an ideal spot for al-fresco meals and sunbathing. If we bring our bikes we can keep these on our patio. Being all on one level is a great advantage for guests with limited mobility.

Discover Intra Muros

The old walled ´Cité Corsaire' (City of Pirates) will take at least a day to explore on foot, so wear comfortable shoes. If you do want to take your car its best to use the underground car park (charge but no time limit) or one of the car parks with meters that surround the walls of the city. This is a very popular tourist site so there are loads of cafés, bars and restaurants, many offering 'Moules Frites' or 'crepes'. There are also some upmarket seafood restaurants. The steep winding (often cobbled) streets are packed with individual shops and also branches of larger fashion stores. This is THE place to buy your Breton sweater/t-shirt.

Local Bars/Cafes and Restaurants.

At Saint-Servan, along the Quay Solidor theres a great choice of places to eat and drink. Take advantage of the good weather and enjoy open dining on terraces with views of Bai Solidor. On cooler evenings enjoy intimate bistro-style dining in several cosy restaurants specialising in seafood, brasserie or wood-fired grills. You can relax and enjoy a drink as its only a short walk to your holiday home at La Cour.

Visit Dinard

You can visit Dinard (which is just across the Bai Solidor) by water taxi from Saint Malo. If you want to go by car its about 15 minutes from Saint Servan, crossing 'Le Barrage' which is a hydro-electric dam. Dinard is a most attractive seaside town (a favourite of the artist Picasso and the filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock). There's the flavour of faded elegance but the town is still very 'of the moment' and theres loads to see including art galleries, many interesting upmarket shops and a huge casino. The beach is enormous with lots of seaside cafés and a large seawater swimming pool.

Visit La Theatre

Saint Servan has its own theatre in the market square. The programme is varied, with drama, comedy and musical performances.

Visit Le Grand Aquarium

Approx 1 kilometre from the apartment is Le Grand Aquarium at Saint Servan, superb natural sealife experience for all the family.

Visit the local market

There is an open air traditional market in Saint Servan Place de Marché every Tuesday and Friday morning. The covered market hall has a wonderful selection of local produce.

Visit the local Parks

Theres a boules pitch in Parc de Bel Air, just a few minutes walk from La Cour. This Parc has 15,000 sq metres of lawns, plants and trees. Theres also a playground area for children. Also nearby is the rose garden of Sainte Anne and the Parc Corbière affording wonderful coastal views over the Rance estuary towards Dinard. Les Jardins de La Briantais have wonderful parkland surrounding an old château. The gardens are open daily free of charge and several of the winding paths have unique coastal views. Dogs (on a lead) are welcome.

Just returned from a lovely, relaxing week in La Cour. The apartment lived upto our expectations and more, proving to be an ideal base to explore the St Malo area. Situated within easy walking distance of a range of shops, bars and restaurants, as well as the small local beaches and beautiful gardens. We travelled as foot passengers and walked to the apartment within 20 minutes, enjoying a hassle free week with no car! Took a fantastic 10 minute boat trip over to Dinard, well worth 8 euros each! Would definitely recommend and are hoping to return next year. Many thanks to Jennifer, excellent communication before and after trip.

I'm so pleased that you enjoyed your holiday and would like to return to La Cour. It is for me too, the perfect get-away. As you found, a car is not essential to enjoy Saint Malo and with buses to Cancale and to Dinan you can explore even more of this lovely part of Brittany.
