About this property

A Rural Haven. This cottage/gite is in a rural setting.

This cosy Breton cottage is set in rolling, tranquil countryside. It has been lovingly renovated and refurbished over the last 3 years and is new to the rental market in 2018. The restoration has been undertaken by French registered artisans using traditional methods and materials and supervised by an English architect. High quality fixtures and fittings have been used throughout, which serve to compliment the original features that have been maintained.

The cottage is south facing and overlooks its own garden within close proximity to its sister property Cider Cottage and the resident English owners. Both cottages may be rented together to accommodate larger family groups. Les Lauriers comfortably sleeps 4 adults, a young child and a baby in 2 bedrooms. The original oak and chestnut beams have been retained and give a lovely ambience to the accommodation.

Les Lauriers is an ideal location for sampling the numerous delights of a French rural holiday. It is within easy reach of the Normandy and North Brittany coastline. A perfect location to explore both coast and rural sites.

Discounts on rental prices can be applied when renting both cottages for a larger group. Please contact the owners for details.

Stage seven of 2018 Tour de France begins in the nearby town of Fougeres. Come along and share in the entertainment of the sponsors' caravan and cheer for your favourite team.

Kitchen and dining

Les Lauriers has a separate kitchen which is fully equipped with all modern conveniences. Including fridge-freezer, dishwasher, modern cooker and ample storage. Kitchen and table linen are provided. The dining room opens out from the kitchen. It has table and chairs and a large oak dresser with mirror above. A highchair is available for smaller visitors. Everything is provided for a relaxing self-catering holiday.

Living rooms

The large living room has 2 leather sofas and an armchair with footrest. There is English satellite television with dvd player. The room has an original granite inglenook fireplace with woodburner and the chestnut beams have been carefully restored and retained.

Both bedrooms offer a splendid view over the local countryside. The double room has a double bed, bedside tables with lamps, basketwork chairs and storage for clothing. The imposing oak rafters are a feature that reminds us of the age of the property.

The twin room has matching twin beds and a child's bed which can accommodate a younger child. Oak rafters are also a feature of this bedroom. Clothes storage and a chair is also available. A cot for a baby can be placed in either room as required.

The stylish contemporary shower room offers a thermostatic power shower, inset basin and vanity unit and wc. There is a convenient downstairs cloakroom with wc basin and coat hanging facilities. Towels are provided for the convenience of guests.

The cottage has gas central heating. If this is required by guests an additional charge of 10 euros per day is requested on-site. Wood for the logburner can be purchased from the owners.

English satellite tv, dvd player and free wi-fi connection are provided. The property has a selection of indoor and outdoor games. There is a barbecue that guests are welcome to use.

Garden and outside

There is a large south facing sunny garden mainly laid to lawn where children are free to play. The garden is supplied with garden furniture and a barbecue for al fresco dining on those balmy summer evenings. Guests are welcome to make use of the extensive woodland garden attached to the owner's property. There is a sauna cabin on site which adult guests may use for a small additional charge.

Parking and garages

The cottage has its own parking and entrance. Several cars can easily be accommodated if required.

About the Owner/Advertiser, Mr Christopher Webb

After many years of holidaying here in rural France, we bought a holiday home in 2003. Each time we returned to England it became harder to leave this tranquil lifestyle behind. In July 2012 we bought our current home and left England. We took a year to create our holiday cottage in the garden which has become Cider Cottage. We bought Les Lauriers in 2015 as a renovation project and are delighted with the result. We enjoy sharing our own special piece of French countryside with our guests.

10 / 10 Family Group 3 December, 2018

We booked both cottegs on this site for a group family winter break. We were impressed with the comfort, style and standard of equipment. The hosts who are on site were friendly and made us very welcome. We were greeted with a welcome pack of local Breton goodies. Our hosts were able to offer advice on local sites and facilities. We were surprised at how much there was to see and do in the area even on a winter break. We visited Saint Malo, Dinard, Dinan, Fougeres and Vitre. All walled medieval cities. Le Mont Saint Michel was amazing. The garden of the property is lovely we saw numerous species of birds, deer and red squirrel. We are already planning our next visit next year.

This cottage was an excellent find. The cottage was excellent with great facilities and our hosts were extremely friendly and accommodating. We were one of the first people to stay in this cottage and it showed as the condition of it was amazing. This is really close to the coast and the wonder of Le Mont St Michel, Cancale (excellent seafood) and St Malo.
We thoroughly recommend anyone to stay at his cottage and we would certainly book it again.

Owner response

The property offered more than we expected. Everything was of a very high standard. The owners could not have been more helpful. We were able to use the sauna twice, set in a magical woodland glade at the bottom of a shaded garden. The floral decorations and the decor and cleanliness and attention to detail were of a very high standard. I would definitely recommend this holiday cottage. We visited several places nearby. Local attractions require one to use your car. However, the large garden and sauna and surrounding countryside with farms and gentle hills offer relaxing days on your doorstep. This is a place to relax in and enjoy quiet.

Owner response

Thank you for your review. We aim to maintain a high standard of accommodation and are pleased when it is appreciated by our guests. Our rural retreat is not on a public transport route so a car is essential to visit the numerous tourist venues around, but our guests are assured of tranquillity and relaxation in our garden and a peaceful night's rest. We hope to make you welcome again very soon.

Just come back for a lovely stay at this cottage. My partner and I got to the cottage fairly late on the Sunday, the hospitality on arrival was fantastic. Angela and Chris were there to greet us both, and show us around. They had kindly left us a cooked meal and groceries which we thought was a lovely kind gesture. The cottage itself was lovely, clean and a good size. Fantastic shower too! Everything you would need on a self catering cottage was available, such as crockery, cutlery, cooking appliances, everything we needed was there. The cottage is set in beautiful surroundings. The gardens were lovingly maintained and the view was gorgeous. Our stay was relaxing and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning. Chris and Angela are very welcoming, they have extensive knowledge of the area and afar and willing to help you plan days out etc. The cottage is in a good area, ideal setting to explore the beautiful rural French countryside. You do need to hire a car whilst there but that adds to the fun and you can explore wherever you like. Thankyou both for a lovely holiday.
