Cottage overlooks the River Blavet, and is in a fairly secluded location. We also have a small private garden with barbecue and pergola.
Suitable for couples, families and small groups of friends.
A lovely location for bird-watching, wildlife watching - otters and kingfishers commonly seen. Plenty of scope for outdoor activities. The cottage is located in a truly beautiful area.
My husband and I (now retired) bought our riverside cottage as a holiday home for ourselves and our 3 children about 15 years ago. Although our children are now grown up, we still all like to go back whenever we have the opportunity.
|Year property purchased||2003|
|Why this location?||We chose the cottage for its beautiful location next to the river in the Blavet valley. We all love outdoor activities and the cottage allowed us to be close to wildlife, enabling the children plenty of opportunities to explore the outdoors in safety. The cottage is situated on the tow path linking Pontivy and Hennebont near the coast, giving us about 70 km of flat, safe, cyclable and walkable paths. In addition, we all love the fact that we can kayak along the river directly from the cottage, or swim or fish, or simply read a book and let the world go by.|
|Unique benefits of property||Although situated in the very quiet hamlet of St Adrien, with its famous chapel, the cottage is within easy reach (about 40 minutes drive) of popular beaches, such as Carnac, Lorient, La Trinité, as well as the Morbihan Peninsula. Many historic towns worth visiting are nearby, including Pontivy, Auray, Vannes, Lorient and Josselin to name a few. The area is really unique for its natural beauty and charm.|
The cottage is in an idyllic situation for fishing and there is plenty of fishing gear available at the cottage for anyone to use. As well as the Blavet, there are numerous rivers and streams in the area offering a variety of fishing.
We have 2 very stable kayaks at the cottage which guests are very welcome to use and are lots of fun. Each kayak is suitable for one adult or one adult and a child. Kayaking on the River Blavet has proved a very popular activity, as the very fit can paddle down to Hennebont or up to Pontivy.
Riverside cottage, ideal for walking, cycling, canoeing, kayaking. Horse riding nearby. The energetic can cycle all the way down to the estuary at Hennebont, along a lovely, flat cycle path at the side of the river. Bikes and canoes on-site.
There are 4 mountain bikes at the cottage available for anyone to use, and lots of wonderful cycle rides in the area. There is a cycle path all the way along the river from Pontivy to Hennebont. We are about half way along the path so its fairly easy to reach either of these destinations as the path has an excellent surface and is flat. The scenery all the way along the river is beautiful.
Many lovely restaurants in Baud, about 15 minutes away by car.
There is a 2-seater pedalo on the river at the cottage for guests to use. This is very good fun for those wanting a leisurely peddle along the river (rather than at the river's edge).
The cottage is ideally situated for country and river walks, bird-watching - kingfishers freqently spotted and otter-watching.
Simply stunning little cottage in the most gorgeous setting ! The Cottage provides everything that you need and is very comfortable and surprisingly easy to find. The setting is wonderful overlooking the wonderful river Blavet . Fabulous wild life including otters and kingfishers . No real problem with visitors on the green outside -generally very nice and considerate . Would really recommend to everyone !!
Very nice cottage, secluded but not isolated with the view on the river Blavet. We really enjoyed our stay .With kayaks ,fishing ,bicycle and pedalo (which needs little updating) we had like a mini holiday resort .Fishing licence was easy to get even with no french at all. Auray, Vannes are beautiful towns worth to visit ,also Hennebont for Thursday market and Larmor Baden at Morbihan Bay, with a break for seafood plater and white wine at the restaurant on the water on the way there. We had our friends visiting and they liked cottage very much ,specially the kitchen .We would definitely recommend this property and on day we would like to came back here.
I am reluctant to review this property because it was so good I really do not want to find it is always booked up. Of course we went in June before the French holidays and the weather was perfect but there is no disguising this wonderful cottage. It has so many facilities . It is right next to a very good fishing river (blavet) with many rods there, a pedalo and kayaks and bicycles. The countryside reminded us of Devon without the crowds. This cottage is in a tiny and very quiet. hamlet called St Adrien. There are beautiful towns everywhere and great beaches and NO POTHOLES on the roads (it makes the UK look like a third world country)
The only minor caveat we had was that the toilets (2 plus showers) are on the ground floor with bedrooms accessed via quite steep stair cases, As we are both over 70 I hope I do not need to explain any further. But if you do have difficulties climbing stairs this place is not for you.
My experience of trying to speak my limited French in Paris wa not good but here the opposite was true, Wherever we went we met very friendly French people who could noy have been nicer.
PS If you are in this part of the word then visit Quistinic. The mayor of this small town decided that he wanted flowers and plants everywhere and the place is a riot of colour and greenery. Added bonuses are a first class café/ tearoom and a restaurant
This is a wonderful find - a fantastic location close to the Blavet which was very peaceful and quiet. I am tempted to keep this find to myself, so it is available for us again next year! Lovely, clean gite with quality furnishings and equipment - the bikes and kayaks are a big plus and we would thoroughly recommend it. Some users were disappointed that the grass between the cottage and the river wasn't private, but we thought it was lovely to share it with fishermen, kayakers and the odd campervan.
