About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Kathryn Dunstan

Our love affair with France began with both of us as children with frequent holidays in different parts of the country. We moved here permanently in 2000 and still love it. We are well integrated into our village and have many French friends. We belong to the village OAP group and help out at village events on a regular basis. Our French is fluent which helps us to communicate with everybody and participate fully in French life. This means we are also able to help you with any communications.

Year property purchased 1992
Why this location? Having spent many holidays in France over the years we always returned to Devon via Brittany so when it came to buying a property we found it the ideal location - easy access to UK, not too hot, not too cold. Set between the towns of Pontivy and Mur de Bretagne we have direct access to the Nantes Brest canal where I am able to walk our dog every day along the 365kms of towpath. We have open views from the house, peace and tranquillity which, after having both lead stressful lives in the UK, is perfect for us and is loved by all our guests.
Unique benefits of property Set in the heart of the Breton countryside in 10 acres of grounds with direct access to the Nantes Brest canal and River Blavet. Our location has to be our biggest asset. The large lawned garden is well maintained and well flowered in summer ( prize winners of the Maisons Fleuries since 2008 ) Plenty of space for both ball games and sunbathing.
Our heated swimming pool ( 11m x 4m ) is popular with all our visitors It's non chlorine ( active oxygen system ) so doesn't smell. It is fenced and south facing which makes it a real suntrap. There are sunloungers around the edge for relaxing and supervising children in the pool.
St Samson is a " real doggy heaven " for pet owners. We have 1 dog ourselves ( German shorthaired pointer ) whom loves the company of other dogs.
Our other benefit is that each of our gites has free WiFi access 24 hours a day so our guests ( particularly the younger ones ) can still keep in touch with the world via Google, e-mails, Facebook etc.

What There is to See and Do

There is a lot of tourist information in the cottage providing details of all there is to see and do in the area. With the canal just over the field and numerous tracks nearby St Samson is an ideal location for walkers, cyclists ( both for the keen cyclist and for family use ) and fishermen. Nearby in the village of Kergrist is an excellent Horse Riding stables where lessons and trekking are very much more reasonably priced than in the UK. The Lac de Guerledan with its safe sandy beaches and watersports ( canoeing, wind surfing, pedalos etc ) is just a `10 minute drive away and a popular destination for our guests. Should you wish to venture further we are an hours drive and equi distant from the North and South coasts of Brittany where you will find numerous sandy beaches as well as rocky coves. Whilst the setting of St Samson is rural it is only a 10 minute drive to the thriving town of Pontivy with its medieval castle and numerous shops, hypermarkets, sports facilities, restaurants and services. Further afield are the towns of Rennes ( the county town ), Vannes, Quimper and St Brieuc, all popular destinations with our guests. There is far less traffic in Brittany in comparison with UK making driving a pleasure.
