|Les Jonquilles||Self Catering||Saturday||2||4||1|
Les Jonquilles is a pretty self-catering gite in the heart of Southern Brittany, traditionally built in local granite and situated on the outskirts of the charming commune of Le Guerno. It stands on an acre of well maintained land, and is accessed by a private road, with ample secure parking. It is in a very peaceful and private situation making it the ideal location in which to sample the fresh taste of rural France, and you will be welcomed personally by the resident owners, Paul and Lorraine, who live on site.
Beautiful, rural tranquillity yet only 15/20 minutes from nearest beach. We are conveniently situated for numerous places of interest, regardless of age.
We have a very large paddock/garden for ball games and general running around with a couple of swings for smaller children. As of 2014 we have a new flower garden, with 5 flower beds full of many varieties of flowers depending on the time of year of course, and also various seating areas to enable you to follow the sun, or not... whatever you prefer.
It is very clean and comfortably furnished and includes all bed linen.
Our part of Brittany boasts its own microclimate giving longer warmer summers and milder spring and autumn seasons. Situated between the Gulf of Morbihan and the Loire Valley, we enjoy one of the best climates to be found in France and our sunshine rate rivals many of the more southern areas.
For the walkers amongst you we have a selection of books with detailed walks in the area that range from 4km to around 16km.
Fishing, golf and horse riding nearby.
Resident English owners will help house seekers.
Visit website for photographs, full details and guest comments.
On the ground floor is a large fitted kitchen/diner with home from home facilities which include: oven, five ring gas hob, microwave, refrigerator with freezer compartment, cafetiere, toaster, crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils. We pride ourselves on how well our kitchen is stocked.
The lounge includes 2, two seater settees, English tv, dvd player and small library of books.
Our regular guests are aware that Lorraine is an avid reader, so if there isn't anything that takes your fancy in the lounge, there is always a list of the 300+ books that are next door in our house.
We have Freesat tv in the lounge which includes much more than the usual 5 terrestrial stations.
Two double bedrooms upstairs, one with a double bed, the other twin beds and both have large fitted wardrobes and separate drawer units.
The fully tiled bathroom comprises of vanity unit and bath with overhead shower. There is a separate wc.
We have a washing machine, iron and ironing board and your own area for hanging out any washing.
The central heating is available during the autumn and winter months.
Full size table tennis table and bats.
On the sunny south facing patio there is a table, chairs and barbecue for al fresco dining, or if you just want to lie in the sun, then take advantage of the sunloungers and a book and perhaps a glass of wine (or 2) and relax in the garden. The only sounds you will hear are the numerous birds in the garden, the cows mooing in adjacent fields and occasionally the soft hum of tractors in the distance - it really is another world.
Safe parking within the grounds.
We are only 20 minutes away from various beautiful beaches and only 40 minutes from the beautiful resort of La Baule which boasts the longest sand beach in Europe. There are numerous places of interest, all a short drive away; Rochefort en terre with its numerous art and craft shops, restaurants and its very own chateau is ranked one of the most delightful villages in Brittany; Roche Bernard, a port and marina with a museum of maritime history and weekly market on Thursday mornings; the medieval rampart cities of Vannes and Guerand and the beautiful Golfe de Morbihan with its numerous islands to explore. We can also boast our own delightful chateau wildlife park Branféré just 5 minutes away and numerous restaurants, bars and markets all within 10 to 30 minutes away.
A lovely gite that lived up to it's description. The property was immaculately clean with thoughtful provision of eggs, milk, water and wine. The on site owners could not have been more helpful with advice and suggestions and were very friendly. I would have no hesitation in recommending the property to anyone seeking a relaxing holiday in a lovely area of Brittany. It is within easy reach of beautiful beaches and interesting towns.
We've had a superb stay here, with a 5* welcome to Lorraine and Pauls wonderful home. So peaceful, beautiful gardens for the children to run around safely and securely, but a short bike ride to beautiful Le Guerno. So many local things to do too, we love it here. Le Guerno has a super creperie but must be booked, Branfere is a superb day out. Damgan beach is perfect for rock pools and sand castles. Lorraine and Paul have been on hand to help us all week - even providing our boys with ramps for remote control cars! Wonderful place, wonderful people. Thank you very, very much. We will be returning!
A really lovely little gite in a beautiful unspoilt area of France run by a charming couple who work hard to ensure that your stay is perfect..
It is in the countryside but access to small towns and local attractions is easy due to the excellent road system.
The beach is 20mins away and there are great restaurants at reasonable prices within a radius of 10-20mins drive .
It is possible to visit a market every day of the week if that is your choice - don't miss the one in Vannes on Weds and Saturday mornings - excellent fish and vegetable market.
We are already looking forward to our next trip.
Why we love Les Jonquilles:
It’s such a peaceful setting: an historically interesting building set in a lovely open garden surrounded by farmland, no immediate neighbours, a place to experience real silence, but just enough human presence to eliminate a sense of isolation.
The ground floor, dominated by the large kitchen-living room, preserves the impression of a solid rural French dwelling whilst providing essentials demanded by contemporary life styles; the light, airy bedrooms are a delightful contrast. All is so clean and well maintained. The owners obviously care about their gite; and they extend this attitude to their guests.
We have stayed in gites whose owners were absent, and in gites attached to owners’ dwellings; in the former we have sometimes felt their neglect, in the latter sometimes been overwhelmed by their proximity. Lorraine and Paul occupy the house to which this gite is attached, yet they are never more than an unassuming presence. Somehow, they manage to convey an awareness of their guests’ needs without being in the least intrusive. This impression has to be experienced to be understood; but can be explained quite simply: they are sensitive, empathic and exceptionally kind people, the most perfect hosts that could be imagined, and the special character that calls us back to Les Jonquilles.
