Though it is close to the restaurants of the riverbank and the centre, Ste Croix has a more rural feel than the left bank of river Oust. The network of winding little streets with characteristic medieval shop fronts quickly gives way to sunken green lanes, their high slate walls festooned with moss and ivy. Passing the fifteenth century chapel of St Croix with its typical Breton spire and imposing old yew trees, the walker quickly finds herself in deep country, entering woods of oak and sweet chestnut, with the choice either of sticking to the river path or striking out south over the fields.
The garden is in 2 levels, a lower more secluded section surrounded by high walls of local slate that act as a sun trap at certain times of the day, and the upper section reached by steps from the lower level which is grassed over and has a picnic table with a mix of cherry trees, bay trees and hazel.
Private parking sufficient for 2 vehicles 100 m from house. Secure parking available on request.
Suitable for dog owners and anyone wanting good access on foot or by car or bicycle to the town, canal and surrounding countryside.
