The coastline of southern Brittany is about an hours drive. Carnac with it's beautiful sandy beaches and easy access is also famous for it's standing stones. There are about 3,000 of these aligned megaliths which date from 4,000 BC. The west side of the Quiberon Peninsula is known as the Cote Sauvage – excellent for surfing. The sheltered eastern side has safe, calm sandy beaches perfect for families.
The tow paths along the canal are well kept and ideal for walking and cycling. For cyclists an hour in each direction takes you to Rohan, Roc-Saint André and the very pretty village of Monterlot.
Josselin, a "medieval city" lies on the Nantes- Brest canal and with it's chateau and timbered buildings is a must-see on a visit to Brittany. The picturesque square with it's cafes is the ideal place to while away an hour or 2. There is a busy market on Saturday morning.
The Lac au Duc at Ploermel has a sandy beach area with swimming and childrens play area. Sailing dinghys, catamarans and canoes can be hired. There is also fishing and a golf course.
There are several open air pools in the area. Requiny (8km) has both an indoor pool with baby area and an outdoor pool. There is a large grassed area where you can picnic and enjoy the sun as well as swim.
