About this property

18th Century Breton Cottage, Beautifully Restored. This cottage/gite is in a rural setting.

Wisteria Cottage is part of an 18th century longhouse that has been beautifully and lovingly restored to provide 21st century living. With vaulted ceilings and a Breton fireplace you will immediately feel 'at home' the moment you walk through the door.

The double bedroom with en suite and  twin room with adjacent shower room is supplied with quality bed linen for a good nights rest. Enjoy our fluffy towels, luxurious robes and Body Shop products. There are beach towels provided for use on trips to the beach or with our wood burning hot tub. Here you can sit with a glass of wine under star-filled skies which benefit from our lack of light pollution. For those who need to keep in touch free wi-fi is available.

All this sits in the heart of Southern Brittany's most beautiful countryside and forms part of Nevedic, (meaning 'little sanctuary' in Breton), a small hamlet within a conservation area, of which the peace and tranquillity has hardly changed since the reign of Louis XIV.

Discover at your leisure 1 acre of garden complete with orchard, a potager full of flowers, herbs and vegetables, all of which you are welcome to sample. Poul Fetan, the 16th century museum of French Culture is just 5 a minutes walk away and makes for a perfect day out with costumed hosts and a tavern selling local cider and Breton meals. The Nevedic Woods have many paths leading to the Blavet River, where you will find a weir and a small cafe (open throughout the high season). The woods provide excellent opportunities for mountain biking.

Along the River Blavet runs a cycle/footpath passing through towns and hamlets from Pontivy to the coast. This path is perfect for walking, fishing and especially cycling. The small town of Quistinic can also be reached via Nevedic Woods for those who like a good walk (25 minutes). Here you will find a store selling many general household items including fresh bread, cakes and milk. There is also a pharmacy, postal service, creperie with bar and a small bar/newsagent.

Large supermarkets, bars, restaurants and numerous shops can be found in Baud a 20 minutes drive away. There are many beaches within a 45 minutes drive. If you like browsing town markets there is at least one to be found everyday.

The Owner Recommends

Beaches

There are many sandy beaches, within easy driving distance of Munro Brittany Cottages, many offering a full range of water sports. The nearest sandy beach is at Port Louis. Popular beach areas include Carnac, La Trinite Sur Mer, Larmor Plage, and St Pierre-Quiberon. Quiet beaches, with nature reserves, big sand dunes and wide open spaces can be found from Gavres to Penthièvre. Beaches in general never get crowded and are very clean.

Cycling

We have several bicycles available for use by guests and are happy to advise on routes and give support for all levels. The roads are maintained in good condition and offer quiet and exciting cycling opportunities for intermediates and advanced level cyclists. The River Blavet towpath stretches for many miles, it is well maintained and level, ideal for novice cyclists or those who want a quiet undemanding day out. There are 2 lunch venues within easy reach along the towpath.

Watersports

Windsurfing and kite surfing, areas include Penthievre east of Port Louis. This is where our son learnt to kite surf while visiting us on holiday and is now hooked.

Within a Short Walk of Blavet Forest Gites

This was our third visit to the cottages and it was equally as lovely as the previous two! The cottages are in a beautiful location and visitors have full use of the large garden, including the wood fired hot tub. The area is quiet and tranquil but good access to lots of local attractions. David and Linda are perfect hosts, it is great to have them nearby and they take every step to make sure their customers have the best possible holiday. The cottage is clean, and very well equipped. A fantastic holiday once again and I would thoroughly recommend a stay there.

Owner response

Thank you Sue for your review. We are so pleased you enjoyed this visit as much as previous ones. We certainly loved seeing you and your daughter again.
We are pleased your stay fulfilled your expectations and you were able to relax in the garden and cottage as well as get out and about to explore more of the region.
We hope to see you again before too long!

This was our third and longest (4 week) visit to Blavet Forest Gites, and our first in Wisteria Cottage. We wanted somewhere comfortable and tranquil where we could pursue projects we'd brought with us, but somewhere, too, with lots of opportunities and attractions within a short drive. It was perfect for both. The Cottages are literally (no more than 50m or so) from the edge of the forest with its beautiful walks and short descent to the impressive Blavet's riverside path that runs in either direction for far further than even the most avid endurance walker would need. Further afield, we enjoyed a day in Vannes very much and three separate day trips to islands off the Golfe du Morbihan; this time we did Belle Ile, Ile Aux Moines and Ile D'Arz. Each of the island days, and their associated ferry journeys, were easily arranged, good fun to do, and very beautiful environments. There are superb and extensive waymarked walking and cycling routes in the local area. The nearest village with amenities (general store, Pizzeria and Dimask Salon du The) is Quistinic, a 5-10 minute drive, or lovely 40 minute walk from the Cottages. We used each (Dimask is especially wonderful and reviewed separately), and the Intermarche Supermarket in Baud (easily accessed via a 15-20 min drive). The on-site owners of the cottages - Linda and David - are wonderfully kind and helpful; they balance impressive efficiency and a relaxed 'vibe' with great skill. We loved it.

Owner response

Thank you Simon for your informative review which I am sure will help other potential guests understand what we offer here. The walking as you said is superb (great for bikes too!) and opportunities to visit the beautiful medieval towns nearby are well rewarded. There are many islands acessible from the nearby coast and, as you said, are well served by the ferries. Next time we will have to persuade you to try our new guest electric bikes!
Thank you again for such a positive review.

We had a great stay in Wisteria Cottage. It’s a beautiful traditional cottage which has been well furnished. The kitchen is very well equipped and we enjoyed shopping locally and cooking with fantastic ingredients to be enjoyed with the wine! The weather was not great but our boys enjoyed the challenge of the log burning stove!
We enjoyed being able to relax in the hot tub in the evenings, whilst our teenage sons were happy to have WiFi and English tv!
We visited many local towns and also the submarine base (there is a nice creperie there if members of the family need bribing!).
The owners were very helpful with information about the local area.
A very relaxing break in lovely surroundings!

Owner response

Thank you for this generous review and ratings.
We always enjoy hosting families and know how important the wifi and TV seem for the younger members of the family.
We hope you have plenty of happy memories of your holiday!
