About this property

18th Century Breton Cottage, Beautifully Restored. This cottage/gite is in a rural setting.

Vine Cottage is part of a 18th century longhouse that has been beautifully and lovingly restored to provide 21st century living. With vaulted ceiling and Breton fireplace you will immediately feel 'at home' the moment you walk through the door. The comfortable king size bed comes with quality bed linen for a good nights rest and the en suite power shower/jet spray wakes you up ready for an amazing day. For those who need to keep in touch free wi-fi is available.
All this sits in the heart of Southern Brittany's most beautiful countryside and forms part of a small stone hamlet within a conservation area, of which the peace and tranquillity has hardly changed since the reign of Louis XIV. Discover at your leisure 1 acre of garden complete with wood burning hot tub where you can enjoy a glass of wine under star-filled skies thanks to our lack of light pollution. We have a potager full of flowers, herbs and vegetables and an orchard all of which you are welcome to sample.
Poul Fetan, the 16th century Museum of French Culture is just a 5 minutes walk away and makes for a perfect day out with costumed hosts and a tavern selling local cider and Breton meals. The Nevedic Woods have many paths leading to the Blavet River, where you will find a weir and a small cafe (open throughout the high season). The woods provide excellent opportunities for mountain biking. Along the River Blavet runs a cycle/footpath passing through towns and hamlets from Pontivy to the coast. This pathway is perfect for walking, fishing and especially cycling.
The small town of Quistinic can also be reached via Nevedic Woods for those who like a good walk (25 minutes). Here you will find a store selling many general household items including fresh bread, cakes and milk. There is also a pharmacy, postal service, creperie with bar and a small bar/newsagent.
Large supermarkets, bars, restaurants and numerous shops can be found in Baud a 20 minutes drive away. There are many beaches within a 45 minutes drive. If you like browsing town markets there is at least one to be found everyday.

A great place to stay, both David and Linda were so friendly and helpful and had left a welcome basket in the kitchen for us which was a lovely touch. David even showed us where the best walks were coming along part way with us. First day in Poul Fetan had a cider festival at the local village, a good way to get to know the place. Apple trees everywhere. We had a few evenings in the hot tub in the garden watching the stars come up. Could not believe the restaurants and how busy they were at lunch time, we went into Melrand about 1.30pm and people were just leaving and told a table would be available in 5 minutes. We had a litre bottle of cider between us plus a three course lunch and it came to a total of 23 Euros! Wonderful value. Went for long walks along the river bank, there is plenty to see and do. Would really recommend going there and we hope to go back again.
Thanks again Linda and David.

Owner response

Thank you so much for this wonderful review.
We are delighted that you enjoyed the area and were able to take time to relax in the hot tub. People often tell us they have their best night's sleep in years after relaxing in the tub!
Your comment about the restaurants is very accurate - at lunchtime they are bustling with locals and give excellent value. We are always happy to provide recommendations for the best in the area. We also do our best to help with walks and cycle rides, accompanying guests if they would like us to so that they can discover this beautiful area.
We hope to see you here again one day.

It's not the first time we have stayed here. We have used all three gites, and can say that all are great holiday accommodation. You are always greeted with a warm welcome. Wonderful location with easy access to beach, countyside or city. Whatever you are looking for, this covers it all. Gites contain everything you need for a peaceful comfortable stay, with some excellent restaurants nearby. Linda and David are always helpful and accommodating. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for the perfect Brittany get away.

Owner response

David it was, as always, great to have you here to stay. You review certainly reflects your enjoyment and pleasure in all this area has to offer.
The restaurants near here are indeed wonderful and it is lovely to be able to recommend them to our guests.
The diversity of the region ensures there are places to visit to suit all tastes and interests and, as you know so well, the cycling opportunities are endless!
We look forward to seeing you both, and your bike, again!

Highly recommended. Linda and David are very welcoming and helpful hosts. There was a very generous welcome pack of goodies and they were kind enough to chauffeur us to a favourite restaurant on our last night so we could drink and not drive. The cottage itself is spacious, comfortable and well-appointed. Guests are also given free run of the garden with lots of quiet spots to sit and relax. The cottage is well situated for visiting the sights and we were also able to enjoy some lovely local walks. All in all, probably the best value for money we've encountered in a holiday cottage let.

Owner response

Thank you so much Stephen for your generous praise of Blavet Forest Gites.
We are so pleased you enjoyed the comfort of the cottage and the tranquil area that surrounds us. We do try to help with restaurant reservations whenever possible so that we can recommend the best in the area.
It really is great, as you realised, to have such great walking on our doorstep.
We do hope to welcome you here again one day.
