Brittany has many beautiful unspoiled beaches and being centrally located, many of them are within easy reach. Some of the favourites to enjoy are Cote d'Emeraude, Erquy, Cap Frehel and Golfe de Morbihan (described as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world)
Coco and Chanelle, our 2 adorable, loving and very friendly donkeys will be right here waiting for you. You can be involved with them as much or as little as you would like. They love attention and especially love getting carrots from our visitors. If you really want to get involved, they need grooming, walking and mucking out......the choice is yours!
There's so much to see and do in the town, it's easy to see why Josselin has been awarded the status Petite Cité de Caractère (literally 'little city of character'). There are guided tours of the town available from the Tourist Information Office which is situated in one of the half-timbered houses just outside the Chateau entrance.
Lac Au Duc The Lac au Duc (Dukes Lake) lies just outside the town and at 5.5km long, is one of the largest lakes in Brittany. It has a man-made sandy beach with supervised lake swimming (summer). The watersports centre hires dinghies, catamarans, optimists, windsurfing, mini windsurf, canoeing, rowing, water skiing, etc. For the less energetic pedalos are available to hire from...
Aquarev is a fantastic new park with something for all ages. Even though it is a very popular place to visit it is never overcrowded and there are so many spots to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet and plenty of childrens areas to explore.
One of the main events in the life of every French town is the weekly street market. (Marche au plein air) Here you can buy everything from fresh fruit and veg; eggs, cream and cheese direct from the farmer; clothes, tablecloths, and furniture; to live chickens or ducks. Market times vary from place to place, but generally start at 6 or 7am, and finish at mid-day or 1pm. Merdrignac - Wednesday Loudeac - Saturday Josselin - Saturday Ploermel - Friday Moncontour - Wednesday St Brieuc - Wednesday and Saturday Vannes - Wednesday and Saturday Dinan - Thursday Rennes - Daily market can be found in the food halls. On Saturday don't miss the amazing produce market at Place de Lice, the 2nd largest in France. Also look out for Vide Grenier (literally - empty loft), a cross between an antique fair and a car-boot sale, events held every weekend throughout the summer.
'Les Machines' the mechanical rides including the famous elephant ride. Such an amazing day out for all ages
The spetacular elephant ride at Nante. 'Les Machines' entertains all ages and is a must for all visitors. So many things to see and do, Nante so far has been our favourite day out. For more information, visit www.brittanytourism.com and also take a look at some of these beautiful, interesting places; Auray, Concarneau, Pont Aven, and Dinard.
Paimpont is situated in central Brittany, about 40 kilometres west of Rennes, surrounded by the Paimpont Forest, which is part of the Forest of Broceliande - the last remaining part of the ancient forests that once covered Brittany.
There are many places to eat out either locally or a short drive away. There are also local takeaways if you fancy having a rest from cooking. There will be plenty of information leaflets for you to choose from on your arrival
The historic town of Josselin offers so much to see and do, and you can quickly see why it has been given the status of Petit Cite of caractere. From its 12th century chateau overlooking the River Oust. Dinan is without doubt one of the prettiest and best preserved small towns in Brittany. With its 3kms long ramparts, half-timbered houses, attractive port and cobbled streets filled with art galleries and craft shops, this Ville d'Art et d'Histoire (town of Art and History) is well worth a visit. The city of Rennes - the regional capital of Brittany, is a fascinating mix of eclectic architecture, grand squares, and glorious gardens. Rennes' Saturday market in the Place de Lices, is one of France's finest.
Just north of Ploermel, you will find Lac au Duc, where swimming, sailing, canoeing, fishing, golf, or hiking are all available. For all year fun, whatever the weather, try Les Aquatides at Loudeac where as well as the 25m pool, you'll find a 70m long waterslide, a lagoon of bubbles, geysers and fountains, several rivers to swim through, as well as a jacuzzi and spa-bath.
To discover Brittany by bike, on foot or horseback, look for the network of voies vertes (greenways), which together form 8 specially designed routes. Following disused railway lines, canal tow-paths, and winding rivers, these routes are accessible to everyone, and dedicated to non-motorized travel - pedestrians, cyclists, the disabled, roller skaters, and riders.
We have just returned from a fantastic holiday at Mille Fleur Cottage. Annie and Dave were fantastic hostsand couldn't do enough for us. Our girls, aged 13 and 11 loved the trampoline as well as sunbathing in the garden and using the plunge pool on really hot days. The cottage was a perfect base to explore Brittany from. We travelled to the coast (about an hour's drive) on a few days and also to Lac au Duc, a lake with a beach and watersports facilities. There are many stunning medieval villages and towns to explore and amazing countryside, all of which are only a half hour's drive away. In the local village, Merdrignac, there is an open air swimming pool with two pools, a jacuzzi and a slide, which was an added bonus, particularly with children. It was only 10 euros for the whole family for all afternoon.
Annie also offers craft activities in her studio, which are brilliant fun.
All in all, the peace and tranquility of the area, the warm welcome from the owners, the adorable and friendly animals and the beautiful and very comfortable 'home from home' environment, made our holiday in Brittany one which we will remember. We certainly hope to return again soon and will highly recommend it to our friends and family.
Had a lovely stay and Annie couldn't be more helpful to my mummy and daddy.
She looked after me when my daddy was taken into hospital and I had a lovely time playing with Poppy, Daisy and Marley, and I had lots of cuddles from Annie.
Mummy says the kitchen was very well stocked with pots, pans etc. and all the rooms where light and airy.
We all enjoyed our stay and would recommend this gite.
We had an absolutely wonderful time staying at Mille Fleurs Cottage. The cottage itself was absolutely spotless and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay - it was easily the best equipped kitchen I have ever seen in a holiday cottage. Dave and Annie were really friendly and could not have been more accommodating to us, particularly when we arrived in the middle of the night with a screaming toddler, but they were also always available if we had any questions about anything. Our little boy absolutely loved all the animals, especially the two friendly donkeys Coco and Chanel who he fed carrots to every morning before breakfast. The 'extra' facilities were great, we spent most of the week in the splash pool as we have a toddler but the swimming pool was also lovely for a proper cool off. We also borrowed bicycles to cycle to the nearest town for a picnic which was a great added extra. The house itself came full of toys which my little boy loved exploring, he didn't make it through them all in a week. The local town has a large supermarket, bakeries for early morning croissants and a few bars and restaurants - more than adequate for our needs. Would heartily recommend a stay at Mille Fleurs to any age group for a peaceful countryside stay in Brittany in a wonderful cottage and beautiful setting.
We cannot recommend this property highly enough. This was our first holiday in France and were therefore apprehensive about accommodation but we were welcomed by Annie and had a wonderful week. The cottage is fantastic, very well equipped and did not lack anything at all.
Annie was very helpful suggesting places to go and our children thought it was the best place they had stayed at, particularly because of the Donkeys, Trampoline and football goal.
The whole week was very relaxing and there are some lovely Brittany towns to visit.
You will not be disappointed about any aspect.
