We are an international teaching couple from Australia and the UK and have lived and worked in Australia, the UK, Qatar, India, China and we now live and work in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. We love France and while not always in residence we have run the property as gites for over 13 years.
|Year property purchased||2003|
|Why this location?||We loved the rural village location in a part of France with great character and a simple and relaxed way of life. The beautiful rolling green hills scenery of Brittany was another feature. Being close to the UK was another reason we chose the area in particular and being so central in Brittany meant we were close to the north, west and south coasts which made it a great base to see Brittany from. We chose this property because we loved the old longere style and the small rural village life yet were close to larger towns. The peace and quiet was a major attraction for us.|
|Unique benefits of property||High quality, well finished cottages designed for couples only. Each cottage is spacious and fully equipped to a high standard. We have really tried to emphasise the importance of space in our cottages, there is a lot of room and you can stand upright in all areas! The cottages are on the edge of a small rural village so you get the peace and quiet of the rural French countryside but also the small village life. While the property has 3 cottages on it they are each very private and none are next to each. The property can lend itself to groups of friends who wish a property where they have their own space but at the same time are with friends. The area is beautiful with the rolling hills of Brittany and a very quiet pace of life. Our central location means we are only and hour and half from the north, west and southern coasts and making it a great base to explore all of Brittany. Locally there are lakes for swimming and walking around, the Brest-Nantes Canal to explore and much more.|
Many of our guests have written reviews on Trip advisor suggesting our cottages are great central locations for exploring Brittany. We have had guests with many different interests, ranging from walking, to cycling the Nantes Brest canal, to stained glass windows in many of the local churches, and they have found the location perfect.
We love to explore further afield, the Southern beaches/coastal towns of Brittany are only 40 minutes away, our favourites are Concarneau and Quimper. The Northern coast is 1 1/2 hours drive, our favourite bay is St Lunaire, which is not too far from Dinard. The Western beaches are within 2 hours from Seglien. We are partial to driving along the coastal road and turning down any rue marked plage - we have discovered some amazing off the beaten track bays, beaches and seaside villages.
We have a favourite for Plat du jour in Guemene sur Scorff, Les Trois Merchants. you have to book ahead. La pizzeria in Langoelen is also worth a visit.
We enjoy walking around the shops in Pontivy, they have a good market to rummage around on a Monday
During the summer months, we love to spend time in the garden; barbequing, long lazy lunches or relaxing and reading. Seglien is a very quiet village, and we love to stroll around the village in the evenings,
The Lac de Guerledan with hiking trails, abandoned water mills, picnic areas and a variety of water sports at le Rond Point or Beau Rivage. There is a beach area with bbq facilities. We love to go to the beach area or walk/cycle around the edge of the lake. The lake is also a safe swimming place.
Delightful gite in a quiet rural setting. We enjoyed two relaxing weeks here and were sad to go home. We would recommend this charming property for couples without children or mobility difficulties (owing to the narrow spiral staircase). The local village has few facilities, but a new shop and restaurant is due to open soon. The local bar is not to be missed!
The gite's location in central Brittany makes it a good base for exploring the whole region. We enjoyed swimming at the Lac de Guerledan, which is nearby.
Gave us the quiet break we needed in lovely countryside.
We self catered so can't comment on the local restaurants but none were in walking distance.
The access to upstairs was by means of a narrow spiral staircase ,no not appropriate for the less able especially as the ensuite had the only toilet and that was upstairs!
Basic crockery but very clean and there were all the electrical appliances that you would find in most homes and they all worked!!
The only means of accessing Wifi was down the garden and I into a locked rather dark room, wifi was intermittent .
The garden had table chairs and deckchairs but we were lead to believe that bikes were available --------alas ,only children's bikes.
We really enjoyed our stay at Croquignolet.
The key collection arrangements were straightforward and the owner's emails were very helpful. It was nice to have a bottle of wine on our arrival.
The cottage was lovely - very attractive, clean, comfortable and nicely furnished. It was in a very peaceful spot just on the edge of the village. The outside space was private and we really enjoyed eating outside, watching the birds and the stargazing was brilliant. Seglien has a small shop to buy bread and milk etc. and the bar opened on the Friday night. The village was very quiet when we first arrived but it seemed like everyone turned out for the music festival on the Friday evening. The area is very pretty and a good location for accessing both the south and the west coastlines, it's nice to have the choice of visiting Finisterre as well as Morbihan.
A small request would be some sharper knives for those that like to cook, and better lighting in the kitchen, especially over the cooker. Again the small number of plates, cutlery etc. really means you can't use the dishwasher without running out.
Thanks for the great review and the very useful feedback. We are pleased you enjoyed the cottage and found it a good base for exploring Finisterre and Morbihan.
We will be sure to address some of your suggestions, s to how we can make our guests stay more comfortable.
We stayed a week at Croquignolet Cottage in June to tour Brittany on our motorbike. The cottage is perfect for a couple or solo traveller and fitted to a very good standard, sited away from the road with its own private garden and small patio.
The layout is an open plan downstairs lounge kitchen with comfy sofa, log burner, TV DVD, fully fitted and equipped kitchen and dining table and chairs - the kitchen is al electric with a microwave ,washing machine and fridge freezer.
There is a large comfy bed upstairs with plenty of power points, drawer units and hanging space for clothes.
The bathroom is also well fitted with a great shower ( no bath ) and a large heating rail to help dry clothes if needed.
There is a spiral staircase to access upstairs.
Wifi is available on site from within an adjacent building.
Seglien village is very rural and quiet - there is a small bar run by a Brit and small shop which is open early ( 8 - 10 ) and the nearest supermarket is @4 miles away.
There are walks around the village mapped out on an information board outside the Mairies office and there are miles of very quiet country roads around the village for cycling.
The nearby town is very pretty and has a weekly market, supermarket, nice bars and places to eat.
Seglien is central to Brittany / Morbihan and in a car it is easy to access the north and south coast and explore North West France.
Croquignolet Cottage is well recommended for a quiet holiday for a couple or solo traveller.
