About this property

Clandy Cottage, One of 3 Cottages on the Edge of a Small Village. This cottage/gite is in a village setting.

Clandy Cottage is spacious yet homely. It is a renovated section of a 200 year old Breton longere, which in its past life was a cider press and farm building. The remainder of the longere is unused giving Clandy Cottage privacy, peace and quiet. It is ideally suited as a romantic getaway for a busy couple who need to have time to relax and unwind. Many guests have said that the photos do not do Clandy Cottage justice.
Being on the edge of the village provides the best of both worlds - the centre of Seglien is only a pleasant 3 minute stroll away, ideal for wandering up to get your French baguette and croissant each morning, whilst the absolute tranquility is interrupted by the occasional farmer's tractor coming back from the surrounding fields, this makes for the ideal location for a restful break.

About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Georgina Gray

We are an international teaching couple from Australia and the UK and have lived and worked in Australia, the UK, Qatar, India, China and we now live and work in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. We love France and while not always in residence we have run the property as gites for over 13 years.

Year property purchased 2003
Why this location? We loved the rural village location in a part of France with great character and a simple and relaxed way of life. The beautiful rolling green hills scenery of Brittany was another feature. Being close to the UK was another reason we chose the area in particular and being so central in Brittany meant we were close to the north, west and south coasts which made it a great base to see Brittany from. We chose this property because we loved the old longere style and the small rural village life yet were close to larger towns. The peace and quiet was a major attraction for us.
Unique benefits of property High quality, well finished cottages designed for couples only. Each cottage is spacious and fully equipped to a high standard. We have really tried to emphasise the importance of space in our cottages, there is a lot of room and you can stand upright in all areas! The cottages are on the edge of a small rural village so you get the peace and quiet of the rural French countryside but also the small village life. While the property has 3 cottages on it they are each very private and none are next to each. The property can lend itself to groups of friends who wish a property where they have their own space but at the same time are with friends. The area is beautiful with the rolling hills of Brittany and a very quiet pace of life. Our central location means we are only and hour and half from the north, west and southern coasts and making it a great base to explore all of Brittany. Locally there are lakes for swimming and walking around, the Brest-Nantes Canal to explore and much more.

The Owner Recommends

Great base to explore

Many of our guests have written reviews on Trip advisor suggesting our cottages are great central locations for exploring Brittany. We have had guests with many different interests but especially walking, cycling, visiting historical sites, the numerous local churches and their stained glass windows and exploring the Brittany coast / beaches.

We love to explore further afield, the Southern beaches/coastal towns of Brittany are only 40 minutes away, our favourites are Concarneau and Quimper.
The Northern coast is 1 1/2 hours drive, our favourite bay is St Lunaire, which is not too far from Dinard.
The Western beaches are also within 1 1/2 hours from Seglien.
We are partial to driving along the coastal road and turning down any rue marked plage - we have discovered some amazing off the beaten track bays, beaches and seaside villages.

Eating out

Our local favourites are Les Trois Merchants in the next town of Guemene sur Scorff for the famous French Plat du jour but you have to book ahead as it is popular.
La pizzeria in Langoelen does great Pizzas and is well worth a visit.
For the famous Breton Crepes there are locations everywhere but our favourite is the Creperie le Chalet at St Nicolas des Eaux

We enjoy walking around the shops in Pontivy, they have a good market to rummage around on a Monday

Seglien Gites grounds

During the summer months, we love to spend time in the garden; barbequing, long lazy lunches or relaxing and reading. Seglien is a very quiet village, and we love to stroll around the village in the evenings,

The Lac de Guerledan

The Lac de Guerledan with hiking trails, abandoned water mills, picnic areas and a variety of water sports at le Rond Point or Beau Rivage. There is a beach area with bbq facilities. We love to go to the beach area or walk/cycle around the edge of the lake. The lake is also a safe swimming place.

The information supplied by the owners was excellent and sent at the appropriate time. The facilities were very good and of a good standard. The cottage certainly has a WOW factor. Perfect for a couple. The WiFi was a little shaky (as was the staircase) but usable within the cottage, another bonus. Bed was really comfortable and the bathroom well appointed. Plenty of hot water. The water was very hot and you need to be careful. Would highly recommend this cottage.

Shame we only had a week.
The property stands in a small village only a few minutes drive from the supermarket and several small towns nearby. There is a shop that opens in the morning for essentials and a small snack bar.
There is currently a development going on ion the village square which is quite well on the way to being finished which we understand will have a new shop /restaurant/bar. The property is open plan, bright and airy with a modern kitchen bathroom and mezzanine floor bedroom with a very comfortable bed.
Full facilities in the kitchen including freezer and washing machine. Garden is small but you do have access to shared areas in the grounds which are huge. In number 18 we did get a wi fi signal but other properties on the site (3 I think) may have to use the dedicated games and wi fi room in an adjacent building. The hosts were magnificent and very friendly and the joining and leaving instructions and pre-holiday contact excellent.
Plenty to do and visits in the surrounding countryside.
Highly recommended. .

Clandy cottage is very peaceful but there is absolutely nothing in the village. We were disappointed that we could not even buy fresh bread & croissants each morning as the description said. The information booklet in the cottage really needs updating, many things had been crossed out or changed over time but some information was still out of date. For example, it said that the there was a very good traditional boulangerie in the nearest town, but this has also closed down. The property was clean and well maintained (the spiral staircase was very wobbly though!). We left the property spotlessly clean but it took 10 days for our security deposit to be returned. The area is very beautiful and we had some lovely walks, but you needed to travel to a town to find a restaurant in the evenings. Very well placed for visiting Pontivy, Josselin and Auray. We love rural France and we're aware of how quiet it can be but this was quiet on a new level!

Compared to other bites we have stayed in this was high on the list . The bite had everything needed for a comfortable stay . Plenty to do and see in the area without too much travelling .
