In 2008, we moved to France from England for a gentler way of life and to give our daughter the advantages of becoming bi-lingual and exposure to a different culture. It was difficult with one of us having grown up in Cape Town to find something comparable but when we found Le Crann in Brittany we immediately felt at home. Now fully settled here in such a beautiful location, we can't imagine living anywhere else.
|Year property purchased||2008|
|Why this location?||A key criteria for our purchase was that any property had to be a 'home from home' for our guests. The stunning 16th century properties give a real taste of a bygone age with all modern conveniences. Le Crann offered everything: A warm temperate climate with sunshine hours comparable to Southern France. Brittany has its own distinct culture and language with extremely welcoming people. Close to many sandy beaches and the glorious countryside of the Blavet Valley. Activities for young and old including golf, cycling, canoeing, sailing and walking. Delightful places of historical interest with many cultural events year long. Proximity to UK and Europe with many access points by car, ferry or plane. Private south facing gardens and extensive communal gardens with heated pools.|
|Unique benefits of property||With the large extensive gardens of 4 acres stretching into the beautiful countryside and situated at the end of a quiet country lane with no through traffic, our guests have commented on how safe and peaceful the gardens and surrounding environs are for children of all ages - the perfect place to relax and unwind. Most holiday makers only have one or two weeks in which to enjoy their holiday and a lot of time can sometime be spent trying to familiarise yourself with your environment. We have a small cottage in the main gardens and are on hand, if you so wish, to ensure you maximise your holiday and don't miss out on any holiday experience. For those nature-lovers, walkers and cyclists there are walking paths leading directly from the property to many points of interest in the region.|
Le Crann self-catering cottages are the perfect family accommodation from which to explore the delights of Southern Brittany, including many beautiful sandy Southern beaches which are about 30 minutes away. Within an hours drive there is a huge choice of activities, whether this be beautiful historic towns, fascinating places to visit, a multitude of activities or the opportunity to experience one of many rich cultural events that is an integral part of Breton life. Or simply relax and enjoy the amazing child friendly facilities including pools of Le Crann and the Breton countryside.
The tranquil hamlet of Le Crann is situated in the commune of Quistinic, in the heart of the Blavet Valley - an area of outstanding natural beauty where time stands still, people are to be enjoyed and life is to be savoured. Situated at the end of a no through road, Le Crann provides a natural haven to enjoy peace and quiet with the comfort that your children are safe to explore.
Discover the old bread oven that served the hamlet, take a walk down to the ancient spring where only 50 years ago the inhabitants of Le Crann had to fetch their water or take a walk to the popular 16th century village of Poul Fetan, a “living village”; immaculately reconstructed to show life at that time. Le Crann means "crown" of a hill providing the perfect location for stunning views of rolling forested countryside.
Our website provides tons of local information and insider tips to get the best from your holiday.
The property is fantastic, we were a party of 6 adults with 2 young kids (1 and 2.5 years old). We all had a lovely stay. The cottage is very well equipped (even for the youngest ones, stair gates, highchairs, cots, changing mat, buggy, plastic cutlery etc.) and clean. The property is located in a very quiet area but still close to the local shops so you get everything you need and beautiful views and you get to wake up in the morning to the birds singing. There are huge gardens with a playhouse with toys, playground, table tennis, badminton, football and 2 heated pools which are shared with the other cottage. Owners are only few meters away and they are ever so helpful and always there if needed. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone and hopefuly will be back next year.
Dear Weronika, Thank you for your kind comments. We were delighted to host you here and looking forward to welcoming you all back soon. Kind regards. Sue and Steve.
Overall, our stay at Wisteria Cottage was one of the best holidays we have had, and there have been a lot over the years. The website, which was excellent, did not do service to the setting, the facilities and cleanliness of the cottages, and the fantastic location close to all amenities and attractions.
Sue and Steve were extremely welcoming hosts, going out of their way to make us feel right at home and ensuring we were well armed with a compendium of information that would put a travel agent to shame. I would not hesitate, and have not hesitated to recommend their property as an ideal holiday that is so much like home.
Many thanks for your great comments and thank you for recommending the gites to other people. We hope to see you back soon.
Our stay in Wisteria cottage with our 15 year old son in July was fabulous. The pool was gorgeous and I especially liked the fantastic view across the valley. Most of my time at the cottage was spent on a sunlounger sipping a glass of French wine!!. The garden and pool get a really great amount of sun but there are umbrellas if, like me you want to retreat under one with a book. Our son is a competent swimmer but the safety railings around the pool would be reassuring if I had a younger child. He really did enjoy and made use of the DVD's and SKY television, being a teenager unable to prise himself from technology. We did get him out to play ping pong occasionally. There were fantastic facilities for younger children including a beautiful wendy house and slides which we did not use but would be enjoyed by younger children.
We also especially enjoyed the walks and cycling using the bikes provided. Sue and Steve are a fountain of knowledge on local attractions and those further afield and are so friendly.
The cottage has been refurbished since our last visit to a very high standard and the gardens have matured and developed providing a stunning restful backdrop to the cottage. The cottage was immaculately clean and the facilities and cooking utensils provided are well thought out. There was nothing I couldn’t find, the attention to detail is remarkable. We had a fantastic holiday and will be back. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a break in Brittany.
Thank you for your lovely review. We are so glad you enjoyed your holiday.
I have returned from a wonderful week at Wisteria Cottage. I can't reccommend this cottage and the their cottage next door highly enough. Sue and Steve have thought about just everything that you could possible want and need to make the cottage feel like a home from home and more! Our group consisted of young and old and everyone throughly enjoyed themselves. We will definitely be returning.
