We are a family from Yorkshire; Rachel Tony & our daughter, Rosie. We have lived in Brittany since 2005.
|Year property purchased||2012|
|Why this location?||We chose to live in Brittany because of the relaxed pace of life, the friendly locals, the quiet country roads and the scenery and coastlines, whilst still having easy access to bustling towns and great restaurants. We are within easy reach of airports and ferry ports for visits to the family in the UK.|
|Unique benefits of property||Being a thatched house, it is cool in the summer and warm in the winter. We have installed a pool in a sunny part of the garden. The garden is fenced for your privacy and children's safety. The house has many original features, including oak beamed ceilings and an original granite fireplace. Le Deran has been our family home for a few years, hence it has been tastefully decorated, and is extremely well equipped and comfortable. We rent the house out for the summer, and have done so since 2014, so you may also enjoy it here.|

Ten minutes from the house is Guémené-sur-Scorff; a picturesque town with cobbled streets, quaint houses and ruined chateau walls. The town has plenty of shops, bars and restaurants, (offering great food) and a cinema which sometimes shows English films.
Just 30 minutes away is the Lac de Guerledan, which has leisure activities for every member of the family. With beautiful landscapes and forests it is a haven for walkers, ramblers, mountain bikers and horse riders. The watersports centre includes dinghies, canoes, rowing-boats, pedalos and water-skiing, plus there are good restaurants which are well worth the visit. The lakes' sandy beaches are ideal for children with safe swimming and outdoor cafes to enable the less active to enjoy the view without expending too much energy.
On the coast you will find hundreds of beaches; (both in Morbihan and Finistere), including the large resort of Carnac, home to the largest collection of prehistoric standing stones in the world, as well as superb beaches with sailing facilities and a health spa.
The surrounding area provides fantastic countryside for ramblers as well as ample opportunity for fishing, plus two nearby lakes for windsurfing kayaking and other watersports.

We have plenty of well signposted country walks within the immediate area of Le Deran and beyond. Local maps are provided in the gite There is plenty of choice for cycling: towpaths besides the Blavet, along quiet country lanes, or through woodland & villages.
Watersports are available on local on rivers, inland lakes & reservoirs or by the coast. These include canoeing & kayaking, rowing, sailing, surfing, windsurfing, sand-karting and jet skiing.
This was our second visit to Brittany and as our previous visit had been to the coast we were surprised and pleased to find that inland Brittany was a much more relaxed affair. On arriving at le Deran, we were warmly welcomed by Rachel and Tony and made to feel at home right away.
The setting is every bit as good as it appears on the website and the pool provides a welcome cool down even on a late September break. There is a log burning file but due to the nice weather we never had the excuse to test it. If you like dogs and horses, this is certainly the place to visit.
Le Deran is well placed for visiting various interesting areas such as the Carnac Stones etc and Rachel and Tony do provide plenty information about areas worth visiting and things to see and do.
The accommodation is very clean, comfortable and well maintained and the house would make an ideal base for a young family.
To summarise, this is certainly accommodation that I would be happy to return to again.
Thank you David & Eileen, we enjoyed having you to stay, and hope you can come back to see us again in the future.
We have stayed in many holiday rentals over the years and this was by far the best one. Lovely place, very much the get away from it all destination. The house was fabulously appointed, spacey and the grounds were gorgeous. The owners are next door but do not bother you. Don't stay here if you're wanting things on your doorstep or if you can't live without high speed Internet and great phone connection though. We didn't want to leave!
Thanks for your lovely review Andrea.
Glad you could get out and see places, and that your stay was enjoyable. Hope you can come back again to see us.
Beautiful property in a wonderful peaceful location. Very homely and cosy and homely even though there were just two of us.
Gardens were beautiful and patio area outside the kitchen was perfect for sitting out for lunch with local French bread, wine and cheese under the parasol.
Kitchen was very well appointed and laid out well for working in. There wasn't anything more that we needed or missed.
Local supermarket (Intermarché) was only about a 10 minute drive and stocked everything we needed.
The owners, Rachel, Tony and Rosie were living on site, but were very discrete and we knew they were if we needed anything and were very friendly when we met them.
We would definitely go back again when we get a chance.
Thank you Caroline, we are glad you enjoyed your holiday. You are welcome back anytime. Have a great summer!
We typically like quiet settings so Le Deran was a great fit for our needs. The house is very well presented with a lovely kitchen, lounge and outside patio/bbq area set within big colourful gardens. Rachel provided us with details of some good local restaurants and was very kind to take our daughter horse riding one morning (which made her holiday). We would definitely recommend to others.
Thanks for your review. We are pleased you all had a great holiday here, and hope to see you all again in the future.
