Kif-Kif Cottage is a pretty 3 bedroom gite surrounded by beautiful countryside, situated in the tiny hamlet of Kertanguy, in the heart of central Brittany, France. We have advertised for a Saturday changeover day but are happy to consider any day outside of High Season (July/August) - just ask.
The cottage has a spacious open plan ground floor with comfortable lounge and kitchen areas. The lounge has a beautiful Breton fireplace with log burning stove and leading off here is the utility room housing the washing machine and ironing facilities, the first of the twin bedrooms and the downstairs shower room and loo.
Upstairs there are 2 further bedrooms; the master bedroom with a small balcony allowing you to soak up those wonderful views and a further twin bedroom with a cot. There is a family bathroom with bath, overhead shower, basin and loo.
The hamlet of Ketanguy is only a few minutes from its nearest town of Langonnet, where you will find all your local amenities, including a very well stocked village shop (with a good wine section and fresh produce), an excellent butchers, a bakers, pharmacy, post office, bank, hairdressers, bar/newsagents and a small restaurant.
Within 10km are the larger towns of Le Faouet and Gourin, which offer weekly markets and a larger array of shops, supermarkets and restaurants.
The kitchen is extremely well equipped (we are a family of cooks!) with a gas cooker, dishwasher, microwave and toaster along with everything else you may need. There is a dining table and seating for 6, with patio doors which open out onto the pergola covered terrace overlooking beautiful views across the valley.
The cottage has a spacious open plan ground floor. The comfortable lounge has a beautiful Breton fireplace with log burning stove and is equipped with a tv including UK freeview satellite channels, dvd player, video player and stereo.
There are 3 bedrooms - a twin bedroom on the ground floor leading off from the lounge. Upstairs, on the first floo, there is the master double bedroom with king size bed and balcony, plus a further twin bedroom (plus a cot).
Downstairs there is a shower room with a large shower plus basin and loo. Upstairs there is a family bathroom with bath/shower, basin and loo.
There are electric wall heaters in all rooms plus the log burning fire in the lounge.
(Logs - we provided a few for arrival then they can be purchased locally or for a charge)
In addition to the tv with UK free satellite channels and dvd player, there are a number of board games available for entertainment.
Wi-fi - is via a mobile 'Orange' wi-fi box (charges may apply)
The cottage is surrounded by beautiful countryside for walking and cycling with other activities such as sailing, golf, horse riding, fishing which can be found within a 30 minute drive, with the wonderful beaches of southern Brittany a mere 45 mins drive.
The Plein d'Eau at Langonnet has a man-made beach area with lake for those days when you prefer not to drive to the main beaches. It has a café, play area and changing facilities making it popular with families.
Set within its own 2 acres of land on the edge of the hamlet, the cottage is surrounded by rolling countryside with glorious views over the valley.
There is a covered terrace with table and chairs just outside the kitchen plus table and seating underneath the walnut tree to the front.
There is free private parking.
There are a couple of front door steps into the property.
My wife and I have been coming to France for many years but were late discovering Brittany. It is the most charming of regions, steeped in history and provides the most fabulous gastronomic experiences which we both thoroughly enjoy.
We love the time that we get to spend at Kif-kif, it is just sadly never long enough!
|Year property purchased||2006|
|Why this location?||Whilst the property is tucked away in the beautiful rural setting of central Brittany it is only a matter of minutes to the fabulous village of Langonnet, which has everything you may need when on holiday, and only 10 mins drive to the larger towns of Gourin and Le Faouet which house the larger supermarkets and other entertainments.
It's central location is also perfect for exploring this wonderful peninsular of France but also not too influenced by the seasonal fluctuations of tourists.
|Unique benefits of property||Kif-kif Cottage is our family holiday home. We rent it out when we are not using it, not only for the financial aspect but also as we love the idea of sharing with others the wonderful, tranquil setting and warmth that the property brings to us when we have the chance to be there.|
Other interests such as art, pottery, regional products and Breton culture are well represented throughout the region. There are a multitude of galleries, workshops, exhibitions and demonstrations to be found all year round.
The main holiday periods see additional annual attractions such as the 'Fete de la Crepe' in nearby Gourin (the Capital of the Black Mountains and where it is claimed the Crepe originated), the 'Fete des Brodeuses' in Pont-L'Abbe (Festival of regional Embroidery and Lace), the 'Veille Charulles' Music festival, the French 'Glastonbury' in Carhaix-Plougher, and the Internationally renowned 'Celtic Festival' in Lorient (which lasts a week!).
The Lakes and Bas de Loisirs (Nautical Parks) offer both the space and tranquillity to enjoy sunbathing and swimming, or for the more active, sailing and windsurfing. Reservoir and sea fishing is available (with a permit) in addition to many of the rivers in the area.
Within the surrounding area, there are numerous sites of interest ranging from the ancient (such as churches/chapels, abbeys, historic monuments, fountains and the famous megaliths at Carnac!) to the more modern (museums, chateaux and parks - both natural and theme).
Apart from the Brittany weather, it was a thoroughly enjoyable week .
Oodles of hot water to soak those tired legs after long bike rides and walks
terraine surprising ly hilly and great for cycling workouts
So glad you enjoyed your stay, we would be delighted to welcome you back.
Kif-Kif is a comfortable and homely cottage deep in the Breton countryside. It is in a hamlet of three houses. Friendly neighbours and dogs.
You can have a very relaxing stay here. Lovely views over the fields and forests of the Black Mountains. Small village of Langonnet with an excellent bakery and other shops only a few minutes away by car.
Larger town of Le Faouet has a good market 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month. The museum in Le Faouet has some lovely paintings and is worth a visit as is the 15th century church of St Fiacre just outside of Le Faouet. Many good restaurants in Le Faouet.
Good supermarket, Leclerc in Gourin about 15 minutes by car.
Owners of the gite very helpful throughout our booking and stay.
Dear Cynthia & Peter,
Thank you for your kind words, we are so glad you enjoyed your stay. It was such a pleasure to meet you both and we do hope we see you again sometime.
We had a great time at Kif Kif with our son and daughter-in-law and 17month old granddaughter. The gite was excellent and had everything we needed. The owner was very friendly and helpful. The microwave broke down and was replaced immediatlely. We had amazing views and it was very peaceful. We would definitely recommend the cottage to others
