About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Jenny Pearsall

I love this part of France, it is very tranquil. I am a fully qualified Reflexologist, Massage Therapist and Reiki Master. I practised for over 10 years in the UK before coming over to France and now offer these therapies here.

Year property purchased 2012
Why this location? We love the friendliness of the people, the beautiful Breton countryside, the quiet roads. There is so much to see in Brittany, we are just over an hour from the coast in any direction and inland there are lovely villages and cycle rides along the canals. We are also close to Josselin, Ploermel and not far from the enchanting Broceliande Forest.
Unique benefits of property The Old Farmhouse is a very large property. All the rooms are a good size and each bedroom has its own shower room and toilet. We also have a great bar for the guests to stock and use, a huge gamesroom, hot tub and swimming pool, with a child friendly garden and 2 fields opposite for games.

The Old Farmhouse was our venue for a superb 10 day extended family holiday. Hosts Phil and Jenny were warm, welcoming and informative, attentive but not intrusive.
The accommodation is outstanding, 6 large bedrooms all ensuite which allows privacy when required, three large communal areas kitchen, lounge and bar/dining area which comfortably seat many people when eating or socialising. The kitchen is extremely well equipped, plus there are plenty of fridges and a freezer in the kitchen and bar area, which easily cope with the demands of a large family/group.
The standard of cleanliness throughout the property was outstanding, with excellent attention to detail.
The outside area has a very pleasant pool and hot tub area - fenced and locked so safe for children of all ages, 2 spacious patios ideal for a BBQ and beautifully tended gardens - again, fenced all round so very safe.
The Games room provides ample entertainment for everyone in the unlikely event of rain. Wifi available.
The local area is interesting, Josselin is a town worth visiting more than once for a stroll or to eat. Ploermel has an Activity lake with plenty going on, a 9 hole Golf Course and some lovely walks. Carnac is slightly further away but well worth a day out to visit the Megaliths and enjoy a meal at the seaside town of Trinite-sur-Mer.
A superb holiday was had by all, everyone thought the accommodation was great value for money.
We highly recommend this venue and location.

A very well equipped house deep in the countryside. The pictures do not do justice to the large size of the rooms and the level of facilities provided.

Jenny and Phil are very helpful and regularly on hand to provide information on local events and amenities.

The house is arranged in 3 sets of two rooms and so was perfect for our three families sharing as we each had a private landing.

Owner response

The house is very large & the six rooms are split into three lots of two. This was great and gave us our own space. The communal spaces were very large, certainly for a party of our size, and could easily accommodate a few more. The house and garden are both very well equipped. We cooked and ate nearly all our meals in the house and didn’t come across anything we could have done with or had missed from home. The house is in good order, the beds are comfortable and the lounge, games room and bar are all great.

Notes of caution Firstly, on arrival we were asked for £300 security deposit – this is to be expected from a holiday let, but it would have been helpful to have this clearer on the website or to have been reminded as part of the booking process. Secondly, we had issues with the hot tub, despite its size only four people can use it at once for a maximum of 20 minutes at a time. Having misunderstood the guidance on the first night, we felt sufficiently ‘warned’ by Jenny and Phil over the next couple of days that we stopped using it. Thirdly it’s worth noting that the pool is not heated and so it can be very cold. Finally, don’t underestimate the impact of having Jenny and Phil on site. Whilst they were nice and did largely keep out the way, they would clean the pool and hot tub themselves, usually between 9 and 10 am. We all agreed that we felt like we had ‘mum and dad’ living next door, and were, perhaps, less able to let our hair down than we would have liked.

Owner response

Thank you for your review. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay despite the unseasonal weather. You will see that most of our guests give us a high score, we understand that as your party was very small, just 6 adults 3 babies and a toddler perhaps you felt unable to utilise the house to its full potential.
As advertised we have solar pods on the pool which require warmth through the sun to heat the water. The security deposit is a normal requirement and featured on the website which was reimbursed in full within 1 day of you leaving. A full set of written instructions and talk during the walk round explains do's and dont's regarding the hot tub. Any problems can be easily avoided by having a quick shower before use. Our hot tub is built for 4 people having 4 purpose built seats. Wherever you use a hot tub the time recommended by the manufacturers is 20-30 minutes. We set high standards of cleanliness for the pool and hot tub which is why we clean them both daily, this normally takes a maximum of 15-20 minutes however if, as in your groups case, skin products are worn in the tub this leaves a nasty brown oily residue, we then have to spend far longer cleaning it. I am sure you realise that dirty water breeds bacteria. However we did note that after we got the water back your party used the hot tub with no further issues.

We had a wonderful holiday. We were 3 families with older kids, in total 13 of us. It was great that every room had an en suite bathroom so no queues! There was loads of space to have your own quiet time if needed and lots of seating to eat together and be social.
Phil and Jenny were wonderful hosts, full of information on the local area and happy to chat about living in France. They are not intrusive bearing in mind they live next door. Wonderful people.
Be aware you do have to travel for your croissant in the morning - which was no problem for us as we had an early bird in our group who drove to the boulangerie. Beds were comfy and they was everything there you need, iron, washing machine, coffee machine, scrabble board etc!!
We will be visiting again!!!! 5 stars!!!!
