Things to Do

Lac au Duc is just 15 mins drive away. This complex is a small haven for those loving watersports. Water-skiing, sailing, boating are all available on this popular resort + man made beach, restaurant, small pool and park. Golf, bowling, and cinema are also found nearby. Les Loupiots du Lac features giant bouncy slides and castles providing hours of fun for those young at heart. The old historical towns of Dinan, Vannes, Rochefort en Terre, La Gacilly are all also worth a visit. Just 1 hrs drive away are the south coastal beaches and ports, all reminiscent of the Cornish Coast. The mysterious standing stones, 4000 of them erected during Neolithic times, 5000 - 2000 yrs BC lie in the town of Carnac. Carnac Plage also happens to be a popular seaside resort providing a good day out for all the family. Quiberon and La Trinite sur Mer are also definitely worth a visit.

9.7 / 10 The Johnsons of Sidmouth 13 August, 2018

La Magdeleine is a lovely place to stay. As a family we particularly enjoyed the facilities avavailable and made good use of the swimming pool, tennis court, boules, table tennis, pool table, football table and the many board games available. The house is also well supplied with everything you need for self catering. Josselin, which is quite close, is a pretty and interesting town with many good restaurants if you want to eat out.
We spent one day at the nearby lake and I don’t know if it was because the day was cloudy, but we were disappointed with the facilities open and available. Otherwise, apart from Josselin, there did not seem to be a lot of things that interested us in the nearby area.
The house itself had a number of maintenance issues - e.g. light switches that did not work, toilet seat missing and another cracked, a broken drawer and blinds in the study not working, which the owner knew about. We were not using all the bedrooms and these did not detract from our enjoyment of the holiday but I would struggle to say that the property is “luxurious” as quoted by the owner.
The only issues that we had were beyond the control of the owner. They were a strong smell of sewage (definitely sewage and not manure) on two or three days which kept us temporarily indoors!
As an older group, we did not use the children’s play area, but this is a place that could keep the whole family occupied for long spells without going out even on wet days and I would recommend it.

Owner response

Unfortunately the lake "lac au duc " was temporarily closed to bathers/swimmers due to the concentration of blue algae produced during the recent heatwave. Most of the water-sports such as sailing, pedalo, water-skiing etc are still permitted.

Large and spacious, with all the inside space on one level although there are some steps down to parking area and also some sloping areas in the extensive grounds. These can, however, be avoided.
As cooking enthusiasts, the large modern kitchen was well used, and also serves well as a very social space, with 6 high stools at 2 counter areas, as well as the kitchen opening into the large dining room.
This opened into a huge sitting room, (junior disco area for our family). There were also many books and games available on neat shelves here.
The patio doors opened onto a wide decking area with lots of room for outdoor dining and lounging - no shortage of outside furniture.
Decking continued toward the swimming pool, and to the other side of the pool was a separate annexe containing a huge games room with pool, table football, seating and toys. Adjoining this was a large ensuite bedroom - perfect for the grandparents..
Extensive gardens, providing space for boules, table tennis and also a full size tennis court.
Situated on the edge of beautiful Josselin, but only a 10 minutes walk into town (15 on way back as uphill). Town has many beautiful old buildings and castle is worth a visit - English tours available daily. There are many restaurants and bars, and lovely walks in the park and by the river/canal.
A highlight was the folk dancing on Friday evening in the square, a very convivial atmosphere, and our granddaughters joined in.
This property met our needs..we loved it!

A large property set alone in extensive grounds with great facilities. A little "tired" now in places and some refurbishment would improve matters. However, we had a great holiday with so much to do on site and the delightful nearby Josselin to visit. Good support network locally when car ignition key snapped and thus imminent disaster was averted !
