During the summer numerous villages and town celebrate the "Pardon" which is predominantly a religious thanksgiving but is always followed by a celebratory meal (with a drink or two!) and Breton dancing.
Great for the beach, restaurants and visting local "menhirs" (ancient stones)
Visting the fort and local villages and train ride explaining the local area
French " petite cite de caractere" on the banks of the Nantes-Brest canal. There is a stunning chateau and puppet museum as well as numerous restaurants. On 14th July, 2018, Josselin is home to a Medieval Festival.A magnificent spectacle of medieval life attracting visitors far and wide. The Saturday market is always very popular. Plenty of local produce for sale.
Within easy reach of Maison Jervis is the walled medieval city of Vannes. Well worth a visit to see the many historic buildings or just a bit of retail therapy in the elegant shops!
Another French "petite cite de caractere", this pretty town has plenty of restaurants centred around the cobbled square. Each Friday during the summer free concerts are held with a wide variety of music to suit all tastes - from traditional Breton to reggae! The market is held every Thursday. Just outside Malestroit in St Marcel is the Musee de Resistance paying homage to the many brave people of Brittany during the second world war.
The Prehistoric Park at Malansac, about 45 minutes away, is another great day out for the youngsters. There are 30 scenes of reconstruction of the dinosaur age. The park is based on models and information from the Natural History Museum in Paris.
Musée du poète ferrailleur, Lizio
A fascinating iron works museum with moving machinery. Has to be seen to be believed!
One for the youngsters! A museum dedicated to insects in Lizio.
"Le Bois d'Amour", (Lovers Wood). Here you will literally find a "park in a town". It has been created to promote nature and the environment. There is an open air theatre where music events are held during the summer months. access it. It has been very well landscaped and contains wooded sections and a stream flowing throughout. Displays are provided which explain the wildlife of the area in pictures and sounds. There are plenty of benches provided throughout the park as well as picnic tables and even a boules court. Also a small childrens' play area. An amphitheatre stages open air films and concerts during the summer, and look out for the water powered clock.

Rochefort-en-Terre, about 45 minutes away, was voted “prettiest village in France” in 2015. With its cobbled streets, plentiful restaurants and shops, it is a must on your holiday agenda!
Lovely place, so quiet and peaceful. The owner lives on site next door and was very welcoming and was available for any questions we had.
Excellent range of equipment provided within the house.
Local amenities are scored low because you have to drive to get to any shops but you don't choose to holiday here for the availability of shops.
Beautiful local towns of Pontivy and Josselyn are places you should visit when here, although avoid Mondays as most shops are closed.
Huge gardens which provided hours of fun for us and the children, although not completely private as you can be seen by the owner as both houses overlook the garden.
The advertised pool is more like a Jacuzzi and has a setting to provide a current which you can swim against but we found it not really suitable for swimming as the current isn't strong enough to push you back, however it was still enjoyable.
Would highly recommend for people who enjoy walking as the local scenery is beautiful, and for people who are after a peaceful holiday.
On behalf of the owner I would like to thank you very much for your review of Maison Jervis.
I am so pleased you enjoyed your holiday in this beautiful part of Brittany.
The website describes the pool as an “endless swim spa which is private and heated and provides a whole new swimming experience”, not as a swimming pool. Also it explains that nearest facilities are “only 2 mins drive away is the charming town of Rohan (20mins walk), with a choice of shops including boulangerie, small supermarket and pharmacy.”
