|Hibiscus Cottage at La Ruelmain||Self Catering||Wednesday||1||2||1||Cot available free of charge|
Hibiscus Cottage is a lovingly restored stone cottage in the middle of a Breton longere with its own private courtyard garden bursting with plants (including of course a hibiscus) and with a view down to the valley of the Vilaine.
If your idea of the perfect holiday place is rural tranquility with freedom to wander undisturbed through a wide landscape or sit and laze in your own garden, with occasional forays to beaches and historic sites or to sample the famous Breton cuisine, then this is for you. Especially if you like to sit and watch wildlife: birds abound . . . birds of the river valley, migrants including hoopoes and storks, garden birds and raptors of all kinds; in the woods are deer and wild boars; when the sun comes out watch the lizards playing up and down the walls, and butterflies from the earliest brimstones and orangetips to the red admirals and tortoiseshell of late summer.
You can walk or cycle from the cottages on a huge network of tracks and country roads. The Vilaine River is half a mile away; you can just walk through our woodland garden and past the organic vegetable garden, and you are on the track down to the river. the towpath of the Nantes-Brest Canal is just a bit further.
Downstairs Hibiscus Cottage is one open-plan room The glass front door opens onto the kitchen corner with bottled gas cooker, fridge, microwave, toaster).
The sitting area has 2 easy chairs with footstools and occasional table. In the dining corner is a round table with chairs.
Upstairs is an airy bedroom with double bed and a great view to the river, chest of drawers and small hanging cupboard. If your baby is coming too, we provide cot and anything else you may need free of charge.
The bathroom out of the bedroom has short bath with shower over, washbasin and wc, and constant hot water.
There is a logburner in the huge old fireplace, and an electric radiator for background heat.
There is a good, free, wi-fi connection (but no tv or radio), and there are plenty of games and books. Guests are welcome to borrow dvds from our extensive collection.
La Ruelmain is delightfully off the beaten track. Hibiscus has its own courtyard garden with furniture for outside living, and our guests can wander through our garden down to the river. Marked footpaths run past the cottage which will take you down to the river, or up into the woods, or through woods farther afield to Saint Dolay.
Hibiscus Cottage has it own off-road parking space. Cyclists can leave their bikes under cover in our garage.
Sadly Hibiscus Cottage is not suitable for people with impaired mobility.
Guests are welcome to bring a dog. The garden is not super dogproof, but can be closed off with gates.
A washing machine is freely available in the utility room next door to the cottage, and there is an outdoor drying line.
We are perfectly placed for exploring south Brittany, Vannes, Rennes, Nantes and St Nazaire, the nature reserves of La Briere and Sene, the Golfe du Morbihan, and the Brittany coast. From Redon explore the Nantes-Brest Canal and the Vilaine north towards Rennes.
