We think you are spoiled for choice. Being in Central Brittany gives access to a wide variety of tastes. Good food and cheap wine abound, from Ouvrier (working men's) restaurants with 5 course lunches and free wine to Gourmet catering starting from 15 Euros for 3 courses. Travel is so easy as roads are good and traffic light. The area is steeped in historic and beautiful sites ; the Nantes/Brest Canal; the medieval chateau town of Josselin; castle city of Pontivy and mythical Quenecan Forest. Most towns are fascinating, quaint and explorable. Vannes, the regional capital, is port city with shops, restaurants and weekly market. There are markets around each day of the week. Quimper and Quimperle boast wonderful Cathedrals and a Museum. There are maritime and war museums, aquariums, zoos and theme parks. Seasonal events, such as the spectacular Son et Lumiere at the ruined Abbey Bon Repos; Fete Andouille with Breton dancing and the Annual cavalcade at nearby Guemene:Two music festivals at Clegeurec and Lorient. The picturesque ports of St Gustain and Pont Aven (home to Gaugin and painting exhibitions. Port Louis home to the East India Company Museum. Wonderful chateau gardens at Rosenbo, Treverez, Rochefort en Terre and Roch Jagu. We have guide books in the gite and will also be pleased to point you in the direction of your choice or special interest
We spent two weeks in this cottage. There is a lovely spacious private garden with the cottage which our children loved running around in and we enjoyed sitting in. The cottage is well equipped and is compact. There's everything you might need there. Downstairs is just one room with the living room, kitchen and dining area all together. You can walk in the forest locally and lots of places are easily accessible by car. We visited lake Guerledan several times.
Would recommend it as a base to explore central Brittany from.
