We have recently realised our dream of leaving behind the 9-5 jobs and starting a new life in this beautiful area of France. We holidayed a lot in France when our 3 children where little, and more recently after they'd fled the nest and always enjoyed the peace and quiet of the countryside. Our aim is to enjoy a quieter life , growing our own veggies and keeping a couple of chickens for fresh eggs, improving our French and generally living the joie de vie.

|Why this location?||We are so lucky to have found our dream house on our first viewing trip. It is an old farmhouse, with two adjoining stone cottages which are the gites. The location is rural and very quiet and peaceful and yet villages with all essentials such as bakery, supermarkets and pharmacies, as well as restaurants and bars, are less than 10 minutes drive away. We are not overlooked and the panoramic views from the house at any time of the year are stunning. We are just a few minutes walk away from l' Oust River and the Brest-Nantes Canal with its miles of safe walking and cycling paths.|
|Unique benefits of property||For a truly french rural experience stay in one of our two stone cottages. You will enjoy the peace and quiet and fabulous views of the valley down to the river. Fishing permits can be obtained in advance so that you are all ready to go. The nearby canal path offers miles of safe walking or cycling with pretty locks along the way. The roads here are ideal for cycling as they are quiet and travel through the beautiful countryside and pretty medieval towns such as Josselin, Pontivy and Rochefort en Terre are all nearby. Across the valley you can see the Abbaye de Timadeuc, a Cistercian Monastery which is just 20 minutes walk or a few minutes drive away. This fascinating Abbaye is open to the public and you can even join the monks for mass on Sundays. The area has two beautiful inland lakes, Lac au Duc and Lac de Guerledan offering scenic walks, beaches and watersports. The southern Brittany beaches and amazing prehistoric standing stones at Carnac and are around an hours drive away.|
In our nearest village, Credin, about 5 minutes drive away La Clochette is a friendly bar/restaurant with a great atmosphere run by an English couple. Open every day except Monday.

A lovely restaurant in Rohan overlooking the canal open most lunchtimes and evening. Serves French, European and Italian food.
A very nice creperie in Rohan (about 6 minutes drive away) serving traditional Breton crepes and galettes (savoury pancakes) as well as steaks , salads etc. Perfect when washed down with a jug of Breton cidre. Its in a great location overlooking the canal
We had a lovely stay at Lavender cottage. The property was very accurately described, both clean and well maintained. Pauline and Tony provided excellent customer service. I would recommend this property to my freinds and family.
Thank you for your lovely review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us and that the children were able to have fun in the pool, which they had been looking forward to so much. We hope to be able to welcome you again in the future as there is still a lot more to explore in beautiful Brittany.

This cottage is ideally situated for discovering Brittany, with both coasts on the peninsular within easy travelling distance. If you want to stay local, the Rennes to Brest canal is literally a hop and a skip down the road. There is an easy ramble to the village of Rohan to the restaurant for lunch, which is busy and popular. The Chateau at Joesslin is a very short drive away.
The cottage is immaculately clean, comfortable and well equipped. The wood burner works a treat. There are beautiful views from the french windows down into the valley, with the wooded hills and the monastery beyond.
There is a very good small supermarket in the village of Rohan, just along the canal.
The owners live on site but the cottage is situated in such a way as to not feel overlooked. They could not have been more helpful and are knowledgeable about the area, should you needs tips for journeys out. There is also a book of useful information in the cottage.
We thought this cottage excellent value for money and we will happily return when we visit the area again.

Supermarkets are a shorts drive or cycle ride away and carry a wide variety of food stuff, wine, beer, car & cycle spares and fishing equipment.

The Nantes-Breast canal is close by, where we enjoyed traffic free cycling, fishing, picnics and long walks.
