We are from Hampshire and have been holidaying in France for 37 years. Following redundancy we decided to make the long held dream a reality and buy a home that we could share with people who wanted to escape their busy working lives and enjoy the beautiful Brittany countryside. Apart from the odd tractor, it is away from the noise but within easy reach of all that Brittany has to offer.
|Year property purchased||2016|
|Why this location?||We were lucky to find and move into our beautiful home in March 2016. It provided us with our home and 2 lovely gites with central heating and double glazing meaning we can offer accommodation all year round. The location is central and gives us the peace, tranquillity and the way of life that we were hankering after. The roads around the area are quiet and there is an abundance of wildlife. What more is there to say...... except please join us, you will be very welcome!|
|Unique benefits of property||Peace, tranquillity and away from city noise, but within easy reach of Brittany's historical towns, beautiful beaches and countryside. Central heating and double glazing allowing all year round availabilty.|
Concarneau – In Breton: Konk-Kerne, meaning Bay of Cornwall (47 miles)
France’s 3rd most important fishing port. Visit ‘Ville Close’ the lovely old walled town, with its pretty buildings, café’s, restaurants and shops. Close to Concarneau is the Chateau Keriolet, once the home of a Russian Princess. There are guided tours between June and September. Free parking can be found at the train station at the top of the town. More information on this delightful town is in our gite book.
Vannes – In Breton: Gwened (twinned with Fareham in Hampshire) (55 miles)
The port of Vannes is surrounded by restaurants, cafes and shops. Behind the port is the old walled town dating back 2,000 years. Wind your way through the medieval streets which are is full of beautiful half-timbered buildings, café’s and antique shops. Just outside the old walls is Chateau de l’Hermine, previously the home of the Duke of Brittany and now an exhibition centre. The Chateau has lovely well-tended gardens to stroll through and there are morning markets on Wednesday’s and Saturday’s.
Parc de Loisirs le P'tit Delire – Ploemel (45 miles)
Well worth a visit! A great day out for all ages; bouncy castles of all types and sizes (bucking Broncos, human table football, gladiator style and more), go karts, covered assault course/ball park, rope walks in the trees, water play area (summer months, don’t forget to take swimsuits/towels), bikes, two giant slides, trampolines, fitness trail, zip lines, an area where you can pet and feed the goats (don’t forget to take your stale bread!) and plenty of areas to enjoy your picnic (which we would recommend as food on site is limited but picnics are encouraged). We took our grandchildren in the summer of 2017 and spent all day there and had a ‘whale of a time’! Average entry price is €13 from ages 2 – 59 with concessions for over 60’s. Extra cost if you choose to ride the ponies of approx. €5.
There are far too many places to mention in Brittany as it has something for everyone, whether it be walking, visiting historical towns or churches, beautiful beaches, cycling or just sitting and enjoying a meal and glass of wine! Above are just a few suggestions, we have plenty more in our gite information book.
