A Stunning Location in a Medieval Chateau Town. This villa is in a town setting.

Maison Henri is a holiday home in the picturesque chateau town of Josselin, a French “petite cite de caractere”. An ideal base for walking, cycling or kayaking, the house is a few minutes stroll from the town centre. Bicycles and kayaks can be hired just 500 meters from the house. Josselin has a lively mix of shops, restaurants, bars and cafes. The magnificent chateau, still inhabited by the Rohan family, has guided tours in both French and English.
Every Saturday is market day in Josselin. Local fresh produce including, cheese, vegetables, shellfish and cold meats are on sale.
The accommodation, sleeping 6, (in 3 bedrooms) is on three levels. Maison Henri has been lovingly cared for and beautifully furnished in traditional Breton style by the owners. It includes a kitchen/breakfast room, a spacious lounge, and a summer dining room. The pretty back garden is on two levels affording a view of the canal where boats pass by in the summer months.

Kitchen and dining

Just off the hall on the left is the galley kitchen with a large integral dining area/breakfast room. The kitchen has a fridge/freezer, electric hob, microwave, slow cooker. Also coffee-machine, kettle and toaster.
An archway leads from the lounge to the summer dining room. Perfect for dining whilst watching the “traffic” glide by along the canal. There is a small “Juliet” balcony to the room which gives a view towards the chateau.

Living rooms

The spacious lounge has a comfortable seating and woodburner for use during the cooler months.

Bedrooms

The elegant wooden staircase leads to the first and second floor.
The master bedroom (bedroom 1) has a king size bed and en suite shower cubicle.
Bedroom 2 also has a king Size bed and a wash basin.
On the second floor is bedroom 3, a twin room with 2 single beds.
All bedrooms have views over the canal.

Bathrooms

There is a wc and wash basin on the ground floor.The family bathroom is on the frst floor and has a bath, washbasin and overhead shower. Next door is a separate wc.
The master bedroom (bedroom 1) has a king size bed and en suite shower cubicle.

Heating

A woodburner is provided for cooler months

Entertainment

A tv monitor and dvd player is provided along with a selection of childrens’ and adults’ films. Also a cd player with iPod and MP3 docking facility.
Wi-fi is available throughout the property.

Garden and outside

Outside at the terrace level is a store room with a washing machine.
Lavender bushes, hollyhocks, roses and much more grow in abundance in this lovely garden. Stone steps access the lawned area which also has fruit trees. A bbq and outdoor furniture are provided

Parking and garages

Parking is available outside the property. There is also a public car park about 200 meters away.

Visitor suitability

The house is suitable for children and a cot and highchair are provided.
The garden is secured and is therefore ideal for dogs also.
There are some steep steps leading from the terraced area to the lawn. Please supervise children at all times!

Domaine de Kerguéhennec

A 20 minute drive from the accommodation takes you to the Domaine de Kerguéhennec. Here you will find an unusual sculpture park and chateau in magnificent grounds. There is a large lake and lots of woodland. Dogs are welcome! There is a small café in the park but opening times can be limited! In the chateau there are often art exhibitions.

La Gacilly

Nearby is the charming town of La Gacilly. During the summer months an outdoor photographic exhibition is held. Boat trips on the canal are available. The Yves Rocher factory, shop and Spa are situated here. Also a vegetarian restaurant - very unusual in France!

Vannes

The walled city of Vannes is about a 50 minute drive from Josselin. The harbourside restaurants in Vannes are always busy in the summer months. The local seafood, oysters and mussels being particularly popular.

Rochefort-en-Terre

Rochefort-en-Terre, about 45 minutes away, was voted “prettiest village in France” in 2015. With its cobbled streets, plentiful restaurants and shops, it is a must on your holiday agenda!

Musée de la Résistance

The fascinating 'Musée de la Resistance is at St Marcel. It chronicles the vital role played by the people of Brittany at the time of the German Occupation during the second World War.
Close to St Marcel is the delightful market and canalside town of Malestroit.

Pont Scorff Zoo

The zoo at Pont Scorff is ideal for younger members of the family (about 1 hour away)

Prehistoric park

The Prehistoric Park at Malansac, about 45 minutes away, is another great day out for the youngsters. There are 30 scenes of reconstruction of the dinosaur age. The park is based on models and information from the Natural History Museum in Paris.

Lac au Duc, Ploermel

A beautiful lake where there are many watersports available. Cafés and restaurants at the water's edge and also a golf course.
A spectacular display of hundreds of types of hydrangeas occurs during the summer mnths.

Rennes

Nearby (1 hour drive) is the stunning medieval city of Rennes, capital of Brittany. There are numerous outdoor cafés and restaurants in the picturesque square plus shops so perfect if you want some retail therapy!
