Having spent many family holidays all over France, my husband's early retirement gave us the opportunity to begin a new adventure in rural Brittany. The moment we saw the property we experienced what the French call a "coup de coeur", in other words we fell in love with it. Our five year plan has been extended indefinitely.
|Year property purchased||2004|
|Why this location?||The Morbihan department of Brittany has gentle rolling countryside and is within easy reach of the beautiful southern coastline. It has a pleasant climate without the extremes found in other areas of France and of course it is within easy reach of family and friends in the U.K.|
|Unique benefits of property||The property offers large cottages, which can comfortably accommodate extended families or groups of friends, in 4 acres of tranquil countryside. The outdoor pool is covered by a large domed structure which maintains the water at a comfortable temperature. However in hot weather, the sides can slide into the roof thereby allowing it to become an open air pool.|
Lann Kerhuerh is situated 3km from the villages of La Chapelle Neuve and Plumelin with boulangerie and village shops for essentials. Nearby Baud and Locmine have a wide selection of restaurants, shops and supermarkets.
Within easy reach are the superb sandy beaches & sheltered bays of the Golfe du Morbihan and the wild surf of the Cote Sauvage on the Quiberon Peninsula. Watersport activities are available along the coast.
The historic cities of Josselin with its fairytale castle, Auray with its picturesque port of St. Goustan and medieval walled Vannes are worth a visit as are the bustling markets in Vannes, Auray and Carnac.
The alignements at Carnac is a UNESCO world heritage site and worth a visit to ponder the reason for the lines of menhirs.
This part of Brittany has 5 excellent golf courses, numerous forest or riverside walks and cycle paths and the river Blavet has several canoe/kayak facilities along its length and miles of unspoilt riverbank for fishing.
For the adventurous, the Camors xtreme forest offers tree top trails with zip wires of varying difficulty.
Branfere zoological park and treetop 'trampolines' is a big hit with children as is Le Petit Delire near Carnac.
Within an hour's drive are the beautiful towns of Quimper, Rennes, Rochefort en Terre, La Roche Bernard to name a few and a further half an hour will find you in Dinan, Pont Aven, Concarneau and other areas of interest.
Had a wonderful holiday here in August with family and friends, including two groups who joined us for part of the time at the property. The booking was both easy and well organised and inspired confidence for the stay. Lann Kerhuerh is a beautiful place with so much for young children and families on site (pool, gardens, woods, play-area, toys, barbecue) and we enjoyed a fabulous stay in Morbihan (our second holiday in the area), which has so many options for days out, beach trips and beautiful walks within 1 hour of the property. The owner was extremely hospitable and accommodating, especially regarding our large group and young children. A particular highlight was the well maintained covered swimming pool. The grounds and pool were shared but this caused no problems; other guests were friendly, sharing tips on local activities. Overall a brilliant holiday, would return to stay here and recommend.
Superb swimming pool - brilliant for our young adults - pool cover particularly welcome given generally the weather in Brittany. Host lives adjacent and is very helpful and friendly.
The farmhouse is gorgeous externally and spacious inside. The ground floor rooms are very dark and require more lighting but there were plenty of comfortable chairs for our family of 5, a huge dining table in the massive dining room and loads of chairs. We sat outside a lot of the time and admired the view across the wooded hillside!
We would book again without hesitation.
