Why this location? Proximity to the UK, transport links, but mainly because it felt... right.
Unique benefits of property It is incredibly quiet here. There is a character and history to St Samson, coupled with the local people that makes our endeavour very special. Whether you want to watch the Plough wheel past your bedroom window in the Stable [there is no light pollution here all you Stargazers!] late at night, or get up early to walk down through the woods to experience the mist hanging above the canal, locks and fields [you may even catch sight of an Otter or a Heron] then this could well be the holiday for you.

The Owner Recommends

Lac De Guerledan

A 200 hectare man made lake surrounded by cliffs, beaches and water sports. A 3 mile walk from St Samson along the canal bank, the lake has a 47Km footpath around its shores, through woods, along beaches and across rocky peninsulas.
There are even the remains of Bluestone slate quarry communities with a cave system and a grotto! All very exciting!

Keroman Submarine Base Lorient

This is definitely an excellent day out. There is a tremendous amount of local history to experience and understand in Brittany. For some The Second World War, invasion of France and the occupation is utterly fascinating and also extremely educational to us all in our 21st Century. The U Boat pens at Lorient exemplify this. They are enormous, well preserved and largely turned over to commercial use. However, the French Government has created a magnificent museum which includes a guided tour of one of the original German Submarine pens along with a very informative interactive exhibition in another. The French Diesel/Electric Submarine "Flore-S645" is also on permanent display outside with translation equipment available for your tour. Highly recommended!

Nantes-Brest Canal

Located 200m from the complex, the extensive Brittany canal system offers a wonderful glimpse back in time to a France that has mainly disappeared. The well kept tarmac towpath offers great walking and cycling opportunities through picturesque countryside with the chance of observing many different species of birds such as Herons, Cormorants and the beautiful Kingfisher. There is also the possibility that you may well spy an Otter!
