About this property

Peaceful, Charming, Authentic French Village House. This cottage/gite is in a village setting.

An original stone house in the old centre of the village. Painted pale grey with jolly red shutters and doors, the house stands an imposing 3 storeys high.

The whole house has very large chestnut beams that add to the original character and charm of this old French property.
The ground floor is a very large open plan space for dining and relaxing which is panelled in original oak, lending it an air of genteel charm.

We have scoured the brocantes and markets for furnishings to decorate the property in an appropriate style. There are pictures and mirrors plus furniture and rugs that Kate and John have bought and used to keep the house in a style that suits its exterior.

Kitchen and dining

The kitchen is open plan and furnished in french style, with large stainless steel double sink, gas cooker, storage units and plenty of crockery and cooking pans. It is a cooks' kitchen with everything a cook could need.

There is an extending French dining table that can seat up to ten people if needed, but is set for 6. This faces the rear garden and in the summer you can open the door and windows and enjoy the evening air.

Living rooms

The room is super large (25' x 20' ) with a large open fireplace at one end. There is a large window and door out to the rear garden.

There are chairs and a settee plus side tables for relaxing with your glass of wine or cup of tea after a day spent exploring the Brittany area.

At the other end is the open plan kitchen.

Bedrooms

Bedroom 1 is a large double with double bed and if needed a sofabed. There are views down the rear garden from the full length french windows and a view of the village from the front windows as it is dual aspect. Furnished in old French style by Kate who is an antique restorer and enjoys finding mirrors, pictures and rugs to style the whole house sympathetically.
Bedroom 2 is furnished with two single beds, with a view out over the village from the window.

There is a very large landing between the two bedrooms which has an original French day bed suitable for a child, teenager or small adult as it has a custom made mattress. French doors look out over the village.

Bathrooms

There are 2 bathrooms on the first floor. One with over bath shower, toilet and hand basin and is newly furnished, but in old French style, in keeping with the character of the house. The other bathroom has a bath and hand basin and is en suite from the double bedroom. There is a single toilet on half landing up from living space.

Heating

There is oil fired central heating to the entire property, backed up with oil filled radiators.

Entertainment

We are installing Wifi this spring and will let prospective guests know if it is available when booking. Please contact us for confirmation. Wi-fi is also available in the village and Bouygues mobile signal is good in the house.

There is a tv with dvd player, plus a selection of films for guests to choose from. Also ball games, raquets, bats, frisbee etc that can be used in the garden.

There are boardgames and playing cards in the sideboard for your use.

The village has a large sports field a few minutes walk away, with boules court and a practice tennis area plus football field.

Garden and outside

The large rear garden wraps around the rear of the property and has an open grassed area for ball games or sunbathing and barbecues. It faces due south so is very much a suntrap and provides a quiet and sunny place to sit.

The patio area has a covered space with further hard standing for tables and chairs, and is ideal for al-fresco dining. There are mature plants and shrubs, with productive apple, pear, gooseberry, blackcurrant and herbs that can be used in your cooking.

Places to Eat

One of THE best restaurants in the area is Au Relais du Porhoet in Guilliers (about 15 mins drive). Superb cuisine and at incredible value if you go for the midday menu du jour http://www.aurelaisduporhoet.com/fr/restaurant.html

Le Marc'h Tray
Literally around the corner - two minutes walk from the house. A very good value menu du jour - including wine. Also open as a bar in the evenings - often hosting music events and "anglo -evenings".
