|Why this location?||We fell in love with Brittany!|
|Unique benefits of property||The tranquility, yet an ideal location near to the coast and lots of places to visit.|
If you don't want to eat 'in' or bbq in the garden, there is plenty of choice, when eating out. Dinan has loads of lovely restaurants and cafes. Try 'La Terrasse' in the old Port. Also highly recommended are:- 'La Vieille Auberge' in Trefumel. The proprietor is a lovely lady, who speaks very good English, if you get stuck with your French! The food and the service are superb. 'Le Relais de La Rance' at Quedillac is also worth a visit. Haute cuisine!
Golf, horse riding and watersports nearby.
This is a wonderful area to explore. The cottage is approx 30 mins drive to the coast, where there is an abundance of sandy beaches - St Cast has 7! Dinard, Erquy, Val-Andre, Cap Frehel and Fort La Latte, St Malo old town and Mont St Michel are well worth visiting. The North Breton coastline is beautiful, with rugged cliffs and sandy bays - wonderful for walking or just lazing in the sun. In summer, there are lots of childrens beach clubs for supervised activities, so parents can have some time off too! There are also lots of very lovely walks along the River Rance and the Canal - try Evran and Treverien. For other local activities such as :- markets and shopping (shoe supermarkets at Quevert are great - really cheap but good quality); chateaux and gardens; boat trips; aquariums; galleries and museums (car museum at Loheac is superb!) - see the many brochures on file at the cottage. There is something to interest everyone.
We spent 2 weeks, early August 2019 . . We had a relaxing time in the tranquil setting - no planes flying, no prying eyes and no car horns!.
We were very unlucky with the weather however, particularly cold at night, but we managed to do all the things we wanted- music festivals in Dinan, antiques shops, lovely beaches, exploring.
The owners were helpful- we couldn't get the heating to work ( it was really cold in the house at night ) and they offered to get a boiler engineer in. The top floor ( loft or attic bedroom ) has not got a door so a bit of a problem for noise and privacy.
Fabulous place. So quiet at night and so dark. Huge garden for the children to play in. Loads of games in the garage as well as a BBQ. Kitchen completely stocked with everything you could ever need. We used the oven, freezer, fridge. All good. TV was great and worked perfectly. Shower was excellent and what was supposed to be included was there. The attic room was perfect for little children but perhaps not tall adults as the stairs are very steep but servicable. Also, on our last day the temperature in the attic room, at night, was about 25 degrees C. Too hot but there were record temps and the fan (which works well) could not cut through the heat. A great place to stay. All about the location. So peaceful and quiet. Cottage was exactly as advertised. Very good directions provided to the cottage and good instructions (about water and gas) throughout in both French and English.
We loved our stay at Hedgehog Cottage so much that we decided not to go home but to stay on for another week so all in all a wonderful month was spent in the most delightful of houses in the most idyllic of locations. Hedgehog cottage is full of charm and is so well equipped providing everything that is needed for the perfect holiday regardless of the weather. There is so much space inside and this is only bettered by the terrific garden and orchard. What could be better than watching the sunrise or sunset listening to the wildlife and just being? The location is fantastic quiet and away from everything - but only a few minutes in the car and you are on a main road which will take you exploring a fabulous part of Brittany which has something for everyone. Hedgehog Cottage really is a little piece of paradise in what is truly a beautiful part of the world and all we can say on our return is "when can we go back?".
We enjoyed our stay at hedgehog cottage. Nice comfy sofas and everything you need. All the appliances worked very well and the house was clean when we arrived.. Very quiet but handy for the main road.
