Porzou is the perfect base for exploring the beautiful Cotes d’Armor region and is especially well set-up and located for families with children. There is a wide range of beautiful sandy beaches within 30-40 minutes drive. The 'Armoripark' theme park with heated swimming pools and activities is fifteen minutes away in nearby Begard. Good walking and cycling can be found all over the area, including the charming Champ de Tir woodland park, only five minutes from the house. |Why this location?||We love this beautiful, unspoilt part of Brittany, where there are far fewer tourists and the beaches are much less crowded than the south of the region. Interesting market towns are close by and beautiful coastline offers good walking, swimming and sight seeing. It's even possible to take the train direct to Paris from our local town if you fancy a long day trip.|
|Unique benefits of property||Our house is in a lovely rural location, but near enough to a town for stocking up on essential supplies. It's private, tranquil and calm with a good sized garden all around the property with plenty of room for children to play. The house has loads of character and plenty of room - it is a traditional Breton longhouse, with lovely fireplace for cold winter evenings, a good sized family kitchen and three double bedrooms (one with twin beds). Inside is furnished in a clean and modern style with some quirky art and lots of child friendly features. We have many repeat visitors and they all say they love the location - the house is perfectly placed just 30 mins drive inland from many different beaches and near to lots of attractions! Please feel free to contact me with any questions.|
Only 10 minutes drive from the house at Begard is Armoripark. It's a family theme park - brilliant for children with trampolines, bouncy castles, petting zoo, pedalos and indoor and outdoor swimming pools with 3 water slides.
The house is wonderfully located to explore literally hundreds of sandy coves around Cotes d'Armor or further afield. From empty stretches of sand at Beg Leguier, rock pools and kite-flying at Plage Bonaparte or busier resorts with childrens clubs at St Quay Portrieux - they can all be reached within 25-45 mins drive. You could easily try a different beach every day in a fortnight's holiday.
Guingamp is the agricultural centre for the Cote's d'Armor region - so the farmers market on Friday mornings is the perfect place to pick up fresh, local produce. There is also a good market in Morlaix on Saturday mornings.
For a memorable day trip, take the short ferry crossing over to Brehat, a small and beautiful car free island which supposedly has its own tropical micro climate! Hire bikes and explore the scenery - pink granite coves and sandy beaches.
"Sound Discovery" takes place on a lovely woodland walk near Cavan (10 mins). Children can experiment with making different sounds by playing inventive rustic instruments located along the pathways. This is really unique, and good fun for adults too!
This is an incredible walk along the Pink Granite Coast at Ploumana'ch. (30 mins drive) The rocky headlands are otherworldly, taking on strange animal forms - you'll feel as though you are walking through a film set!
There are lots of great places to eat in the area but we particularly recommend "La Boissiere" in Guingamp (3kms) as a great place for a romantic and authentic French meal - this restaurant is situated in an old village house within a little wood. The staff are lovely and speak English too! We also love visiting the numerous creperies in the region for traditional Breton "galettes" and sampling delicious seafood in Paimpol.
