About this property

Beautiful Longère in Tranquil Location near Guingamp. This cottage/gite is in a rural setting.

'Porzou' is our beautifully renovated 'longere' style Breton farmhouse dating from 1800s, situated in an utterly peaceful location off a country lane (45 mins drive from Roscoff, 75 mins from St Malo). The house is our family's holiday home and is presented as such, with personal and quirky decorations and some family items kept in the house. The farmhouse sleeps a maximum of 6 people comfortably in 3 bedrooms (2 doubles, 1 twin). A baby travel cot can be available on request. Large and sunny kitchen/dining area, large living room (with spare double futon), working log fireplace, tv (dvds only, a selection is available) simple white tiled family bathroom, separate toilet, central heating, washing machine, tumbledryer, microwave, Ikea highchair.

Exterior: Our garden wraps around the house, with the largest area to the sunny, south-facing front aspect. In summer a grape vine provides shade over a pergola. Lovely views/sunsets over fields from rear garden. Ample parking space for cars. Please note that our outbuildings are not for guest access and are used for personal storage. Garden furniture is included in rental - a round table and chairs seating six. A bbq is available.

Duvets/pillows are provided. Guests are politely requested to bring their own duvet covers, sheets, towels and tea towels. Bed linen may sometimes be hired for a charge, please enquire.

Nearest village Plouisy is 1km away. The attractive market town of Guingamp is 3km drive. Porzou is the perfect base for exploring the beautiful Cotes d’Armor region and is especially well set-up and located for families with children. There is a wide range of beautiful sandy beaches within 30-40 minutes drive. The 'Armoripark' theme park with heated swimming pools and activities is fifteen minutes away in nearby Begard. Good walking and cycling can be found all over the area, including the charming Champ de Tir woodland park, only five minutes from the house. The spectacular Pink Granite Coast can be reached easily on the main route through Lannion. Local day trips include Ile de Brehat, while further afield, direct trains run from Guingamp to Paris.

During peak times, only SATURDAY to SATURDAY bookings are acceptable. Please do not try to book dates that start/end on days other than Saturday during these times, as your booking may have to be cancelled. However we are always happy to be contacted about your travel dates as we can sometimes be flexible, even in peak season, so if in doubt do ask first and we will see what can be done!

If your dates are not showing as available, please do feel free to send a message - sometimes non-essential maintenance is scheduled at the house out of season, which can be rearranged.

Local English-speaking caretaker nearby.

About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Jan Periton

I'm Jan, an artist and teacher, living in Bath with my husband, our 2 daughters and a couple of cats.

Year property purchased 2001
Why this location? We love this beautiful, unspoilt part of Brittany, where there are far fewer tourists and the beaches are much less crowded than the south of the region. Interesting market towns are close by and beautiful coastline offers good walking, swimming and sight seeing. It's even possible to take the train direct to Paris from our local town if you fancy a long day trip.
Unique benefits of property Our house is in a lovely rural location, but near enough to a town for stocking up on essential supplies. It's private, tranquil and calm with a good sized garden all around the property with plenty of room for children to play. The house has loads of character and plenty of room - it is a traditional Breton longhouse, with lovely fireplace for cold winter evenings, a good sized family kitchen and 3 double bedrooms (one with twin beds). Inside is furnished in a clean and modern style with some quirky art and lots of child friendly features. We have many repeat visitors and they all say they love the location - the house is perfectly placed just 30 mins drive inland from many different beaches and near to lots of attractions! Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

The Owner Recommends

Only 10 minutes drive from the house at Begard is Armoripark. It's a family theme park - brilliant for children with trampolines, bouncy castles, petting zoo, pedalos and indoor and outdoor swimming pools with 3 water slides.

The house is wonderfully located to explore literally hundreds of sandy coves around Cotes d'Armor or further afield. From empty stretches of sand at Beg Leguier, rock pools and kite-flying at Plage Bonaparte or busier resorts with childrens clubs at St Quay Portrieux - they can all be reached within 25-45 mins drive. You could easily try a different beach every day in a fortnight's holiday.

Guingamp Farmers' Market

Guingamp is the agricultural centre for the Cote's d'Armor region - so the farmers market on Friday mornings is the perfect place to pick up fresh, local produce. There is also a good market in Morlaix on Saturday mornings.

Ile de Brehat

For a memorable day trip, take the short ferry crossing over to Brehat, a small and beautiful car free island which supposedly has its own tropical micro climate! Hire bikes and explore the scenery - pink granite coves and sandy beaches.

La Decouverte du Son

"Sound Discovery" takes place on a lovely woodland walk near Cavan (10 mins). Children can experiment with making different sounds by playing inventive rustic instruments located along the pathways. This is really unique, and good fun for adults too!

Le Sentier des Douaniers

This is an incredible walk along the Pink Granite Coast at Ploumana'ch. (30 mins drive) The rocky headlands are otherworldly, taking on strange animal forms - you'll feel as though you are walking through a film set!

There are lots of great places to eat in the area but we particularly recommend La Boissiere; in Guingamp (3kms) as a great place for a romantic and authentic French meal. The staff are lovely and speak English too! We also love visiting the numerous creperies in the region for traditional Breton galettes and sampling delicious seafood in Paimpol.

We stayed at the property for a week in October with our two children aged 9 and 12. The property was perfect for us with plenty of bedrooms and a spacious lounge and kitchen. There was everything we needed there including wifi, a TV and fantastic open fire. The house was always warm and there was plenty of hot water.
The property is well placed for a number of day trips and we visited some beautiful beaches and an island - all within a reasonable drive. There is a boulangerie nearby, supermarkets in the local town and loads of fresh seafood to be found locally.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend!

Tranquil setting with private garden and plenty of outdoor space. Beds were comfy and the large kitchen diner was great. Kitchen had all the appliances we needed. Over bath shower was good and the toilet separate which is helpful.
The only reason I haven’t given 10 for cleanliness was due to the many cobwebs and dead flies we had to clear away on arrival. It didn’t feel as if it had been prepared for us on arrival day.

Well situated to explore coast and inland. About 45 mins drive to the coast where there you can explore the pink granite coast and lovely beaches. Lots of supermarkets a short drive away.

Would definitely visit again. Owners very helpful when we found internet not working and got it fixed quickly.

Owner response

Thank you for taking the time to write a review, Clare. We are so glad you had a good stay and enjoyed the house and location. I’m sorry to hear you felt the house wasn’t prepared as I can promise that we had both our caretakers and our gardeners out to make it ready for you as the first guests of the season. I will certainly pass on your feedback to them. You’d be most welcome to stay again. Thanks once again for your positive comments. Jan

We had a brilliant week at Longere, the cottage is a great size and has lovely gardens - great for children to explore. It is very well located with so much to do from woodland walks, fantastic beaches, lovely towns. The owners gave us lots of recommendations of places to visit and the best places to eat. A wonderful place to escape!
