About this property

La Vieille Longere is a Charming Gite in Brittany, near River and Forest. This cottage/gite is in a rural setting.

La Vieille Longere is situated in a truly tranquil location near the River Lie and Loudeac Forest, where the stresses of everyday life can be easily put aside.

This characterful holiday rental has been carefully renovated to create a comfortable home from home that retains many original Breton features, including exposed oak beams and A-frames.

The longere is comfortably furnished for modern life, including a relaxing living room with large sofas, tv, woodburner and dining area with french-doors to the barbecue terrace - an ideal spot for relaxing with a book and a drink, sketching the scenery, watching birds or star-gazing at clear night skies. The kitchen is comprehensively equipped for year-round self catering and has a wide, sunny window seat.

There are 2 spacious en suite bedrooms upstairs, and an optional third bedroom with adjacent shower room on the ground floor - this gite is particularly popular with adult friends or older families wanting to share a holiday without having to share a bathroom and offering plenty of space to relax in.
Take a stroll along country lanes to the nearby river to cool off beside the calm waters of an ancient deer crossing or follow the path down stream a little to the weir which attracts many trout fishermen. The more energetic can follow the marked cycle or rambling trails into the forest opposite or join a pony trek. Alternatively, hire canoes at the neighbouring village of La Prenessaye and explore further down river, breaking for lunch at one of the local auberges or creperies.
The area is equally appealing to anyone who enjoys meandering around small medieval towns - don't miss nearby Moncontour, which is just minutes away and is amazing; the Fete des Ramparts shared bi-annually with Dinan is a must. For those who enjoy browsing the many local markets there is plenty of fresh produce to discover - goats cheeses, honey, shellfish, pork and freshly picked vegetables are piled high beside art and craft or brocante stalls.
For exploring this area of Brittany, within an easy drive there are medieval market towns, good quality restaurants, a wide variety of historic sites, large inland lakes with watersports, fishing and boating, the beautifully scenic north coast beaches and international standard golf courses providing plenty of options for everyone.
The English owners live next door, maintain the gite personally and are available to answer any queries to help guests make the most of their stay in this beautiful and friendly area of Brittany.

Complimentary wi-fi.

Saturday or Sunday change-overs are preferred during July and August, however totally flexible changeover days and short breaks are available out of peak season

About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Penny McClure

We swapped the busy pressures of running a business in England for the relaxed pace of a French rural life; it’s a world away from sitting in traffic jams and the hectic life we used to have. It took 18 months of hard work before the properties were ready to welcome our first guests for Easter 2006; since then we have enjoyed welcoming guests who want to experience a relaxing gite holiday in Brittany, it’s nice that other people feel as happy here as we do.

Delightful holiday in an extremely well equipped house, the owners really have thought everything through but in what is provided in the gite and in the quality of local information they supply.
Lots of interesting autumn walks, we particularly enjoyed watching several deer trotting beside the local river.
