The Owner Recommends

French Markets

The local market at Rostrenen takes place every Tuesday and in Carhaix on a Saturday. There is a huge market at Lannion, reputed to be the largest in Brittany and is about an hours drive away. There is also an excellent Sunday Market at Carnac, which although a drive away, combined with the amazing standing stones, makes a great day out.

On a Wet Day

Sadly when the weather does not always behave and staying in watching tv doesn't appeal, a back up plan is always useful! There are galleries and museums in Quimper, which with the famous pottery, will provide an excellent day out. Alternatively Oceanopolis in Brest is in easy reach and is utterly fascinating.

On the Doorstep

The Centre Nautique on the Nantes-Brest Canal is about 5 minutes from the house and is excellent for recreational kayaking. Glomel Lake is very handy for a swim and there is miles of wonderful walking locally.

Places to Eat

We are spoilt for choice with several excellent pizzerias/grills close by. Most close on a Monday but the Cappuchino in Plevin can be relied on to serve up a delicious meal in a relaxed atmosphere (service can be slow!). For a much more traditional set menu (a la carte is available) you can't go wrong visiting Henri IV on the N164 by Rostrenen. The food and service are superb - highly recommended.
La Rotunde in the centre of Carhaix provides excellent French cuisine.
There are many good places to eat and I am always happy to offer suggestions.
Carhaix provides a number of restaurants, pizzas, grills and traditional French

Riding/Trekking

Domaine de Meros 29530 Plounevez de Faou, is about 15km from the house just off the N164. 2/3 hours escorted treks through the Central Brittany countryside are available at reasonable rates. A lovely way to see the local area

Things to Do on a Hot Sunny Day

The cottage is ideally placed to easily reach most of the beautiful beaches of the Rose Granite Coast and the gentler sandy beaches of Finistere. There are wonderful rock pools to explore, mussels to harvest and restaurants with their 'Terrasse' overlooking the water to enjoy.
