We are a family of 4, Lesley, Simon, Sam (aged 12) and Evie (aged 9) who moved to France 10 years ago, leaving London and jobs in the city behind us. It was a big risk but has been worth it as we love what we do now and have a brilliant life in France. We love our home and what we have achieved. We renovated La Touche ourselves, built the business from scratch and are very proud of what we have achieved. We hope you will enjoy it here as well.
|Year property purchased||2006|
|Why this location?||Beaches, ease of access to ferries, and the beautiful Brittany countryside, villages, mediaeval towns and wonderful farmers markets. Plus Dinan, St Malo and Dinard are just a stones throw away.|
|Unique benefits of property||We are family friendly. As well as having two covered swimming pools, meaning they are alway warm and safely secured, we have a soft play area, toys galore, trampolines and all in a safe environment away from the traffic.|
One thing that amazes our guests time and time again is how lovely, large, clean and empty the local beaches are. With easy and free parking they truly are stunning. The closest is Sable’s d’Or les Pins, about 10 kms away and the beaches listed below are all within a 10 to 20 minute drive. Each beach offers something different to do whether it be crabbing, surfing, paddling, or hiring kayaks. We have it all and they really are fabulous!
There is the upmarket beach resort of Dinard, the laid back Cap Frehel area of natural beauty, the stunning Sables d’Or les Pins, the bustling Pleneuf Val Andre and the gorgeous St Cast le Guido to name but a few.
We have some fabulous towns and villages nearby to us, with great shopping, markets, architecture and historical interests ranging from mediaeval times to WWII.
Why not spend the day in Dinan, walk the ramparts, take a boat trip on the river, play crazy golf, visit the market or the numerous little boutiques that line the cobbled streets, or just sit in the sun and people watch.
Or visit our closest town Lamballe, visit the cathedral, take in market, walk around the lake.
There there are ‘les Petites Cités de Caractère’ (little towns of character), such as Jugon les Lacs, where you can lunch in the market square, then walk to the lake for swimming, kayaking or pedaloes. Montcontour is another, a mediaeval walled town the other side of Lamballe.
Dont forget St Malo, with great shops, an aquarium, walk the ramparts, take a walk out to one of the forts at low tide, shop-til-you-drop and eat all the fresh seafood you could want.
A little further away is Mont St Michel, the fairytale castle in the sea as the kids like to call it. This is known as the Eigth Wonder of the World.
Jugon les Lacs - New in 2014 is an indoor swimming complex with small slides and splash areas suitable for kids and little ones. On first glance it looks quite small, but my kids absolutey love it here and they are 10 and 8. It also has a large heated outdoor pool and is on the edge of the lake so very pretty with crazy golf and other activities close by.
Cobac Parc - A theme park with an outdoor aqua park suitable. Huge water slides. Good rides. Great fun.
Indian Forest, Morieux - This is a go-ape style tree climbing adventure playground, with obstacle courses for those 3+ years.
Onsite activities - Lesley, with the help of Sam and Evie, produce a Kids Activity schedule with the onsite activities for the week. Movie and Popcorn night is a great hit. As are the Treasure Hunts, which Sam and Evie run.
Aquarium, St Malo - The Grand Aquarium, St Malo is a brilliant Aquarium with thousands of different species of fish including sharks, sea turtles and piranhas! Always a favourite. There is also a submarine ride.
Zoo Bourbansais - A really lovely zoo in the grounds of a chateau, which can also be visited. There is a fabulous falconry display and, at the end, bouncy castles, play areas and a maze (once it has grown!)
Moonlit swim - All the kids love the moonlit swim we do. It is great fun for everyone. Even some of the adults get in.
Crabbing, collecting shells and rocking climbing. With a little bit of work, you can find all sorts of sealife in the rocks and some great shells. Often buckets of today’s catch are brought back to the complex for discussion. There are lots to do at the beaches other than swimming.
Relaxing in the sun by the pool Up at our pool, on a sunny day, is really lovely. The views are fabulous, it is peaceful (normally), with cabanas and loungers where hopefully you can relax for a bit with a book
Fort la Latte, Cap Frehel A medieval fort with spectacular views over the coast. A must do. You can climb all around it. Toddlers will need to be hung on to but it is beautiful
The beaches The beaches by us are stunning. Nothing more, nothing less!
Seafood & gastronomy This area is famour for its seafood, from a spectacular Fruit de Mer to the local Moules Frites. There are fab restaurants to be discovered to suit everyone’s budget and taste.
Indian Forest, Morieux This is a go-ape style tree climbing adventure playground, with obstacle courses for those 3+ years. Adventurous adults love it. Level of difficulty for each course is graded by colour – try a black one
Velo Rail, Medreac This is really unusual. A disused train track, with bikes each side, a net in the middle for the kids and off you go. Babies can be attached in their car seats. It is impossible to fall off, don’t worry. Go as fast as you can, the kids love it, just watch your picnic does not fly out! No
Sports and nature Lesley can arrange pretty much anything you want to do. From hiring bikes, kayaks, paddle boards, to advising on cycle routes, walks, mountain bike tracks etc. There are some lovely walks to be discovered in the Cotes d’Armor. Cap Frehel is an area of natural beauty and really should be discovered on foot. You will stumble over deserted beaches, monoliths and stunning views.
Onsite dining One of the reasons people come back to La Touche year after year is that with small children it can be difficult to eat out and Lesley’s Plat du Jour service offers the parents a chance of having a freshly prepared meal delivered to their gite or at one of the bistro tables. Giving the feeling that mum and dad are having a holiday too!
Playing on the golden sands at one of the many local beaches The beaches of the Emerald Coast are perfect for young children. They are clean, sandy and beautiful. The closest beach is Sables d’Or les Pins, which is 10 kilometres, but within a 20-minute drive you will find lots and lots of beaches. Here are a few worth a mention: Pleneuf Val Andre, St Cast Le Guido, Caroual Plage, St Pabu, Petit Mont St Michel, Erquy, St Jacut de la Mer. There are also beaches that are good for body boarding, surfing, rock climbing and foraging/crabbing. Just ask us and we will point you in the right direction
Making friends When you arrive at La Touche, we hold a welcome meeting in the soft play area. This is where all the toddlers get together and meet the other toddlers (if they havent already made friends). Climbing, building, dressing up it all goes on in the soft play area and the little ones love it. Yes
The indoor swimming pool in Jugon les Lacs New in 2014 is an indoor swimming complex with small slides and splash areas suitable for toddlers. They really love it and the slides are suitable for toddlers to go on, on their own, from about 2 to 3 years onwards. Earlier than that, they may need a nice lap to sit on. Great fun to see them running around and splashing about.
Amoripark A theme park with an indoor and outdoor aqua park suitable for toddlers. Really lovely place and quite old fashioned. No huge roller coasters, but things like pedaloes, go karts and bouncy castles.
The toddlers’ pool at La Touche We have a toddlers’ pool here, where the little ones can stand up, play with boats, buckets, watering cans and generally splash around whilst the parents sit at the side. It is heated to 29 degrees so that the little ones can stay in for longer
Calling for friends Over the years, the feedback from parents has been wonderful but something they all say, is that it is amazing the freedom the toddlers have as the grounds at La Touche
