This location has multiple holiday properties
|La Vieille Ferme at La Julerie||Self Catering||Saturday||3||6||2||Cots available|
La Julerie is ideal for families and groups as there are beds for up to 24 people + babies in cots in the 4 gites. As its name implies, La Vieille Ferme was the old farm house before we converted all of the buildings; originally it had 2 rooms downstairs which we have made into one large one; it is now large enough for all 24 guests to sit and dine together. This makes La Julerie very popular with family groups as you can all eat together, but each family can then retire to their own gite if they so wish to.
The prices quoted are what you pay; there are no added charges (apart from pets), all bed, bathroom and kitchen linen and towels are included as are towels for use around the swimming pool or take to the beach. The tariff also includes the local "holiday tax". We do however take a security deposit of £250 or 250 Euros per gite from guests on arrival and do ask guests to bring a cheque for this sum with them. We hold the cheque unbanked until we have checked through the gite at the end of their stay. If guests fail to bring a cheque, it means they either have to draw cash or make a bank transfer for this security deposit.
As La Julerie is at the end of a no through road, there is no passing traffic, in fact the road leading to our road is also very quiet with minimal traffic, making it an ideal place for youngsters to learn to ride their bikes and get some road sense. Apart from the climb up to the road from La Julerie, if you turn right out of our road, the road is fairly level making cycling easier; however if you turn left towards Corseul, it is all up and down; ok for dads and very energetic youngsters!
We are very child-friendly and have all of the equipment modern parents need when taking their infants on holiday including baby changing table, babybath, steriliser, listening device, booster seats, swing seats, etc.
The indoor heated swimming pool is usually open from 1st April til the end of October in fine weather the retractable glass cover is opened.
La Julerie has hosted several wedding receptions and wedding anniversary parties in its gamesroom, we can supply details of outside caterers "Les Traiteurs" if required. Our daughter-in-law Lydiane has her hair salon across the yard from the gites and will willingly take care of guests hair during their stay.
Prices are fully inclusive of all heating and lighting and all bed and bathroom linen, kitchen towels, serviettes etc and also swimming towels for use around the pool or on the beach.
At night time guests are more likely to hear owls than cars due to the distance from any main road! La Julerie slopes gently to the south ensuring an ideal suntrap for any guests sunbathing on the patio surrounding the pool. Although rural, the gites are only 10km from historic Dinan and 18km from the marvellous beaches along the coast.
All of the beaches along the coast near to La Julerie can be described as "safe sandy beaches". At several of these beaches there are sailing, or kite surfing schools during the summer months, courses are normally held from Monday until Friday, either morning or afternoon. There is a kayak club in Plancoet (10km) and equestrian centres also in Plancoet and near to Quevert, also 10km. If you are keen on coarse fishing, there is a small lake in Corseul (daily licences obtained from the bakery) and the closest golf course is in St Maudez (9 hole and 8km distance) There are several other 18 hole courses in the area.
If any one in the family wishes to either ride or attend a sailing or kite surfing school, please let us know when you book to come to La Julerie and we can book the appropriate courses on your behalf. Students must be at least 7 years old.
In 2016 and every other year Dinan holds a Fetes de Ramparts, normally over the last weekend of July; the whole town is decorated for a weekend of celebrations and festivities which includes knights jousting in the main market square. It is an event well worth seeing. In the alternative years Moncontour holds its version of the same fete. Moncontour is a small hilltop town about an hour's drive away.
It is less than an hour's drive to the world famous Mont St Michel, one of the most visited tourist sites in France, it is well worth a visit, but do expect to be with crowds of other tourists.
The gite has open plan downstairs living rooms, "nobody is left in the kitchen whilst the rest enjoy themselves". The kitchen is fully equipped with a full range of modern electrical appliances, oven, hob, fridge-freezer, microwave, mixer, coffee-maker, toaster etc. As mentioned above, there is plenty of room for large groups to sit and dine together; we have a spare table which we put into this gite whenever we have large parties, and if needed a further table can be brought in from either a patio or another gite.
Comfortable settee and armchairs with tv accepting both UK satellite and French channels and dvd player (bring your own dvds). There is still room for the children to get down from any dinner party and to sit and watch tv, or play with their computer games.
La Vieille Ferme has one double bedroom, one with 2 single beds and the 3rd one has bunk beds and also a cot. All the bedrooms show a lot of original timberwork and have unique character.
On the first floor, one bathroom has bath and basin, whilst the 2nd one has shower, basin and wc, there is also a separate wc on this floor, whilst downstairs there is a washroom with wc and basin.
Whilst there is central heating in all of the buildings at la Julerie, la Vieille Ferme also has a wood burning stove. All heating costs are included in the quoted tariffs. There is underfloor heating in the gamesroom which makes it very comfortable and inviting throughout the year.
The indoor heated pool is over 9 metres long and has a level bottom at a depth of 1.65m which makes it ideal for parents with young children as the parents can stand anywhere in the pool to look after their infants, but at the same time it is deep enough for anyone to enjoy a "proper swim". For security, access to the pool is only via the adjoining gamesroom; the other 3 sides of the pool are enclosed within a walled patio which is an ideal suntrap and a good place to lay on a sunlounger and sunbathe. The gamesroom has a table tennis table, a seating area, 2 showers/changing rooms and a separate wc; whilst outside there are swings and slide and a sandpit for children and also a playhouse. Books and games are available in the gamesroom. There are many toys for younger children including several sit on ones. Guests have held their wedding receptions or special anniversary parties in the games room.
Wi-fi is obtainable at La Julerie, we have 2 separate lines to provide full coverage.
Unlike the other Gites, La Vieille Ferme has a large lawned area alongside it. Whilst the other Gites at La Julerie have a lawned area in front of the Gites, La Vieille Ferme has a patio, invariably the wooden table and chairs and the Weber barbecue are kept on this patio, as opposed to the rear one, as it is the warmest place at La Julerie! The side garden then opens up to a large area which is shared by all guests. We have planted many shrubs and take pride in maintaining the flower beds, hanging baskets and window boxes.
There is sufficient space for guests to park their cars in the yard; we do have cycle racks under cover as we find many parents bring their childrens bikes as the roads are very quiet all around La Julerie and also relatively flat (once you are at the top of the drive). We do have several bikes which are freely available for guests to use on a daily basis; at present we only have one child's bike, so it may be sensible to bring your own.
We have welcomed young babies right up to a lady celebrating her 90th birthday! Many family groups consist of 3 generations, sometimes with the families occupying all 4 gites. Whilst La Vieille Ferme has not been designed to welcome disabled guests, it is possible to bring a wheelchair into this gite whenever a group are dining together. Les Ecuries has been designed to welcome wheelchair users; it has wide doors into the large groundfloor shower room. When required a bed is placed at the rear of the salon in this gite if guests cannot manage the stairs.
We have virtually all of the equipment parents need when taking their infants on holiday which means you don’t need bring items from home; besides cots, high chairs and stair barriers we also have a baby changing table, baby bath, bottle sterilising unit, swing chair and baby chair and a listening device etc. Where needed all kitchen cupboards and upstairs windows have locks which are reversible and only need be engaged when infants are in the property. We have also fitted barriers to the patios
Dinan is a medieval town built on a hill overlooking the River Rance. There are boat trips on the river. The town is split between the main shopping area with its large market, boutiques and creperies and pavement bars/cafes at the top of the hill and “the port” with its cafes and restaurants and more creperies along by the river. Rue Jezroual which connects the main town to the port for the pedestrian offers the visitor an array of craft shops often with the craft person working in the shop or visible in the workshop to the rear. Market day is Thursday; in the summer it is naturally very busy and parking can be a bit of a problem, but well worth the effort. For a weekend in late July every other year- 2012 etc Dinan is transformed into a medieval town with straw strewn streets as it hosts its medieval fair. Whilst entry to the town is free, visitors pay with one ticket to enter all the different events which take place over the weekend (the jousting event in the market place does require an additional ticket).
Le Grange Pizzeria in Corseul 2km serves a range of food besides just pizzas; we have eaten there several times when wanting s simple easy meal. We have always enjoyed the experience
Mont St Michel (50km) 3 acre rocky islet topped by a famous Gothic abbey, 1.6km (1 mile) off the coast of Normandy in northwest France in the Bay of Mont St Michel in the English Channel. The island, located 5km (3 miles) from the shore during the Middle Ages, is now surrounded by water only 2 times a month. Its one cobblestone street climbs in 3 spirals from a great granite base to the towering Benedictine abbey of Mont St Michel. The abbey is an architectural masterpiece and well worth visiting. Lamballe (35km) Every Thursday afternoon/evening throughout the summer the large stables which houses “heavy working horses” opens it doors to the public and puts on a show with these horses in their large arena. The town also gears itself up for this event as the town centre is transformed with an array of seating and tables and stage. Barbecues are alight around the square and you can select a meal to suit your hunger! Ile de Brehat (80km) An island, but one that you get to by ferry (about 10 minutes) Il de Brehat is situated along the “Pink Granite Coast” near Paimpol. Guingamp (65km). An attractive Breton town which hosts an annual Breton music and dance festival.
An equal distance from La Julerie is the town of Plancöet which offers one of the top hotel restaurants in all of Brittany – the Crouzil. The French President has entertained a British Prime Minister (Tony Blair) in the restaurant. Plancöet has a much smaller weekly market (Saturday) than Dinan, but one we find very welcoming and it offer a good range of fresh vegetables which are sold by the growers and also fish and crabs.
La Julerie is only 18km (20min) from the coast, where there are many safe sandy beaches, some have sailing schools throughout the summer holidays- St Jacut and Lancieux. Elsewhere you can learn to surf (kite or board). St Jacut is a fovourite as at low tide it is possible to walk to the offshore island of Les Ebihans, the children love it! There are delightful cliff walks around Cap Frehel (30km away) where there is a restaurant right on the edge of the cliffs where you can watch sea birds nesting whilst you dine.
We arrived at La Julerie in bright afternoon sunshine to be greeted by Robert who was a very welcoming and friendly host. He and Liz were great and full of brilliant ideas and advice about what to do and where to go.
The fully equipped gite was excellent with spacious accommodation, wonderful grounds for the children to explore, great games room and the highlight for all was the fantastic pool.
The location of the gite was just right within easy reach of the wonderful old town of Dinan, and just a short drive to many amazing safe and sandy beaches (a different one each day) with spectacular scenery. Other major attractions, Le Mont Saint Michel, St Malo, Dinard etc were easily accessible.
As far as the children were concerned the highlights (apart from the onsite pool) were climbing the lighthouse at Cap Frehel, body boarding at Saint Lunaire, the six seater bike at Sable d’Or les Pins and beating the tide on a walk to Iles Eebihens.
Overall excellent in every respect; thank you Robert, Liz and La Julerie – we had a great holiday.
Our family and friends, 19 in total visited La Julerie for a 1 week stay 17th Sept 2016. We ticked every box from the little ones to the Oldies.
Clement and his lovely family were admirable hosts and met every single need possible, making our stay so very enjoyable! Clement's guitar playing was an added bonus when the sun was going down
The various descriptions of each Gite are wholly accurate, the pool was fabulous for everyone and used every day. The games room was also a bonus for kids and adults alike.
The location of La Julerie was the perfect base for getting out and about and gave us easy access for the many locations we visited.
The weather was another added bonus, sunny and warm every day but not too much so, even allowing us to eat outside and bbq regularly.
All in all a really great find and would absolutely recommend for large groups like ours!
When we arrived after a long journey our first impressions were very good. A lovely friendly welcome, a large, comfortable and spotlessly clean farmhouse, plenty of large towels (plus extra for the pool), instructions/directions for days out etc. Robert goes to a great deal of trouble to make sure your stay is a good one. He left a lovely bottle of wine for us plus beers and water in the fridge and home grown tomatoes for us to eat - very much appreciated thank you Robert. He is an informative and kind host who ensures your stay is a good one and most efficient too - faultless service from start to finish. The gites and grounds are immaculately maintained. We loved the swimming pool - perfect for sunny or rainy days (top comes off!), sunbathing area and the indoor games room was a constant source of fun with endless games of table tennis - oh and use of bikes to pedal for fresh croissants in the morning! What we liked most was the location of La Julerie. It is rural so has the benefit of being quiet and most relaxing. It is ideally placed for days out - not far from beautiful Dinan (a treat), Dinard, St Malo and many other wonderful places (all within a 15/30 minute drive). I could go on and on about this place - it is stunning. We would go back any time - it is simply wonderful. Very hard to beat for a holiday destination. LOVED IT!
Lovely gite with a fabulous covered pool meaning kids could swim even on overcast days and it could be opened up when it was hot.
Really beautiful beaches nearby too and enough places to visit to keep everyone entertained - kids and parents alike. Robert and his family were very attentive and did everything they could to make our holiday a success.
