This location has multiple holiday properties
|Les Ecuries||Self Catering||Saturday||3||6||2|
La Julerie is ideal for families and groups as there are beds for up to 24 people (plus several babies) in the 4 gites. There is space in La Vieille Ferme for all 24 to dine together. However, this gite - Les Ecuries is designed to welcome wheelchair users. It has 2 bedrooms, one is a double and the other with twin single beds; on the wide landing there is a bed-settee which can sleep one adult or 2 children. We say it sleeps 5/6.
Whenever we have had a guest who is confined to a wheelchair, or cannot manage the stairs, we have placed a single bed at the rear of the salon area behind a screen. The ground floor shower room also has wide doors, which allow wheelchair access. Whilst not designed as a "disabled friendly gite" it is possible to take a wheelchair into La Vieille Ferme, which is helpful if you are booking as a party and will be dining in that gite. With a brick pathway running in front of all of the gites to the gamesroom, wheelchair access to this facility and the other gites is also possible without any problems.
We are very child-friendly and have all of the equipment modern parents need when taking their infants on holiday including baby changing table, babybath, steriliser, listening device, booster seats, swing seats, etc, etc.
The indoor heated swimming pool is usually open from 1st April till the end October half term and All saints holidays; in fine weather the retractable glass cover is opened.
La Julerie has hosted several wedding receptions and wedding anniversary parties in its gamesroom, we can supply details of outside caterers "les traiteurs" if required. Besides weddings, other guests have held anniversary parties in this large room. In order to be able to have exclusive use of this room, it is necessary to rent al 4 of the gites, otherwise the other guests would also have access to the room and the pool.
Our daughter-in-law Lydiane has her hair salon across the yard from the gites and will willingly take care of guests hair during their stay.
Prices are fully inclusive of all heating and lighting and all bed and bathroom linen, kitchen towels, serviettes etc, swimming towels are also provided for use around the pool or on the beach.
At night time guests are more likely to hear owls than cars due to the distance from any main road! La Julerie slopes gently to the south ensuring an ideal suntrap for any guests sunbathing on the patio surrounding the pool. although rural, the gites are only 10km from historic Dinan and 18km from the marvellous beaches along the coast.
All of the beaches along the coast near to La Julerie can be described as "safe sandy beaches"; at several of these beaches there are sailing, or kite surfing schools during the summer months; courses are normally held from Monday until Friday, either morning or afternoon. There is a kayak club in Plancoet (10km) and equestrian centres also in Plancoet and near to Quevert, also 10km. If you are keen on coarse fishing, there is a small lake in Corseul (daily licences obtained from the bakery) and the closest golf course is in St Maudez (9 hole and 8km distance) There are several other 18 hole courses in the area.
If any one in the family wishes to either ride of attend a sailing or kite surfing school, please let us know when you book to come to La Julerie and we can book the appropriate courses on your behalf. Students must be 7 years old or older.
In 2016 and every other year Dinan holds a Fetes de Ramparts, normally over the last weekend of July; the whole town is decorated for a weekend of celebrations and festivities which includes knights jousting in the main market square. It is an event well Moncontour is a small hilltop town about an hour's drive away.worth seeing. In the alternative years Moncontour holds its version of the same fete.
It is less than an hour's drive to the world famous Mont St Michel, one of the most visited tourist sites in France, it is well worth a visit, but do expect to be with crowds of other tourists.
The gite has open plan downstairs living rooms, "nobody is left in the kitchen whilst the rest enjoy themselves". The kitchen is fully equipped with a full range of modern electrical appliances, oven, hob, fridge-freezer, microwave, mixer, coffee-maker, toaster, etc. The dining table is normally placed in the rear of the salon, but at times it is moved to a more central position when the occupants have guests from other gites eating with them and an additional table is brought in
Comfortable settee and armchairs with tv accepting both UK satellite and French channels and dvd player (whilst we have a few children's dvds, we suggest bring your own dvds).
To see details and several photos of each the other 3 gites please visit our website below.
The double bedroom is quite spacious, and there is room to bring a cot in this room if required. There is a large amount of cupboard and wardrobe storage space.
There are 2 sleigh beds in the twin bedded room which are heavy and not movable, whilst we have placed a cot in this room at guests request, we do not recommend it, and feel that it is far better to place the cot at the far end of the landing. The landing is wide enough for a bed-settee which is ideal for one adult or 2 children.
On the ground floor there is a large shower room with wide doors allowing wheelchair access, this room also has a basin and a wc. The upstairs bathroom has a bath (with shower attachments which makes washing the children's hair easier), basin and a wc.
There is central heating throughout the gite. All heating costs are included in the quoted tariffs. There is underfloor heating in the gamesroom which makes it very comfortable and inviting throughout the year.
The indoor heated pool is over 9 metres long and has a level bottom depth of 1.65m which makes it ideal for parents with young children as the parents can stand anywhere in the pool to look after their infants. For security access to the pool is only via the adjoining gamesroom; the other 3 sides of the pool are enclosed within a walled patio which is an ideal suntrap and a good place to lay on a sunlounger and sunbathe. The gamesroom has a table tennis table, a seating area, 2 showers/changing rooms and a separate wc; whilst outside there is a Children's play station with swings and slide fireman's pole, elevated house and toys and also a sandpit and another play house for children. Books and games are available in the gamesroom. There are many toys for younger children including several sit on ones.
A 2nd phone line has been brought in to ensure that wi-fi is available throughout all 4 gites.
The gite has its own private secluded patio equipped with wooden furniture and Weber barbecue and a smaller lawned area behind the property. The garden then opens up to a large area which is shared by all guests. We have planted many shrubs and take pride in maintaining the flower beds, hanging baskets and window boxes.
There is sufficient space for guests to park their cars in the yard; we do have cycle racks under cover as we find many parents bring their childrens bikes as the roads are very quiet all around La Julerie and also relatively flat- once you are at the top of the drive. We do have several bikes which are free and available for guests to use on a daily basis; at present we only have one child's bike, so it may be sensible to bring your own.
We have welcomed young babies right up to a lady celebrating her 90th birthday! Many family groups consist of 3 generations, some times with the families occupying all 4 gites. Les Ecuries has been designed to welcome wheelchair users; it has wide doors into the large groundfloor shower room. When required a bed is placed at the rear of the salon in this gite if guests cannot manage the stairs. We did have a retired doctor who was in a wheelchair staying in this gite and took the opportunity to discuss the facilties with her; she found everything was fine, but did need help to get the wheelchair over the "lip" on the bottom of the doorways. Since then we have provided simple wooden ramps to put on each side of the doors whenever we have had wheelchair users.
We have virtually all of the equipment parents need when taking their infants on holiday which means you don’t need bring items from home; besides cots, high chairs and stair barriers we also have a baby changing table, baby bath, bottle sterilising unit, swing chair and baby chair and a listening device etc.; where needed all kitchen cupboards and upstairs windows have locks which are reversible and only need be engaged when infants are in the property. We have also fitted barriers to the patios.
We bought our own cottage in Brittany in 1992 and so liked spending summer holidays in the area, that when the opportunity arose in 1999 to buy La Julerie I decided to retire from a career in domestic banking and with our son's help we converted a "longhouse" and created the 4 gites with the indoor pool which we now manage. We live in our UK home all winter (apart from holidays) and spend the summer in Brittany managing the 4 gites and enjoying the way of life on Le Cote D'Armor.
|Year property purchased||1999|
|Why this location?||Brittany has always been a popular holiday area for French families, and also with British visitors; Le Cote D'Armor in particular has so many safe sandy beaches where families can relax and enjoy themselves, away from the beaches, there are so many interesting historical towns where you will find events taking place throughout the summer to entertain visitors and to show their heritage. One of the major attractions for UK visitors is the fact that Le Cote D'Armor Department is so close to the ferry ports of St `Malo, Caen and Roscoff, and the climate is "just that bit more continental and slightly warmer" than the UK that it makes an ideal venue for experiencing the joys of France without long hours of driving.|
|Unique benefits of property||4 Gites which can sleep up to 24 people, plus babies in cots, sharing an indoor pool and a large gamesroom. Ideal for families holidays, one of the benefits being that each part of a group can retire to their own gite and do not have to be involved with all of the group activities. We find that this works very well with 3 (or even 4 at times) generation family groups. Being located in a quiet rural setting only 40 minutes from St Malo and 20 minutes from the coast makes it an ideal venue; besides having the indoor pool (normally heated from Easter until the end of the Christmas & New Year holidays) the large gamesroom has hosted several guests wedding receptions and many anniversary parties. Normally groups will sit and dine together in one of the gites where there is space for up to 24 to dine together, only using the gamesroom for parties. We have some bikes which are free to use, as the roads are so quiet, it is an ideal area to teach children to cycle on roads, bring their bikes.|
Dinan is a medieval town built on a hill overlooking the River Rance. There are boat trips on the river. The town is split between the main shopping area with its large market, boutiques and creperies and pavement bars/cafes at the top of the hill and “the port” with its cafes and restaurants and more creperies along by the river. Rue Jezroual which connects the main town to the port for the pedestrian offers the visitor an array of craft shops often with the craft person working in the shop or visible in the workshop to the rear. Market day is Thursday; in the summer it is naturally very busy and parking can be a bit of a problem, but well worth the effort. For a weekend in late July every other year- 2012 etc Dinan is transformed into a medieval town with straw strewn streets as it hosts its medieval fair. Whilst entry to the town is free, visitors pay with one ticket to enter all the different events which take place over the weekend (the jousting event in the market place does require an additional ticket).
Le Grange Pizzeria in Corseul 2km serves a range of food besides just pizzas; we have eaten there several times when wanting s simple easy meal. We have always enjoyed the experience
Mont St Michel (50km) 3 acre rocky islet topped by a famous Gothic abbey, 1.6km (1 mile) off the coast of Normandy in northwest France in the Bay of Mont St Michel in the English Channel. The island, located 5km (3 miles) from the shore during the Middle Ages, is now surrounded by water only 2 times a month. Its one cobblestone street climbs in 3 spirals from a great granite base to the towering Benedictine abbey of Mont St Michel. The abbey is an architectural masterpiece and well worth visiting. Lamballe (35km) Every Thursday afternoon/evening throughout the summer the large stables which houses “heavy working horses” opens it doors to the public and puts on a show with these horses in their large arena. The town also gears itself up for this event as the town centre is transformed with an array of seating and tables and stage. Barbecues are alight around the square and you can select a meal to suit your hunger! Ile de Brehat (80km) An island, but one that you get to by ferry (about 10 minutes) Il de Brehat is situated along the “Pink Granite Coast” near Paimpol. Guingamp (65km). An attractive Breton town which hosts an annual Breton music and dance festival.
An equal distance from La Julerie is the town of Plancöet which offers one of the top hotel restaurants in all of Brittany – the Crouzil. The French President has entertained a British Prime Minister (Tony Blair) in the restaurant. Plancöet has a much smaller weekly market (Saturday) than Dinan, but one we find very welcoming and it offer a good range of fresh vegetables which are sold by the growers and also fish and crabs.
La Julerie is only 18km (20min) from the coast, where there are many safe sandy beaches, some have sailing schools throughout the summer holidays- St Jacut and Lancieux. Elsewhere you can learn to surf (kite or board). St Jacut is a fovourite as at low tide it is possible to walk to the offshore island of Les Ebihans, the children love it! There are delightful cliff walks around Cap Frehel (30km away) where there is a restaurant right on the edge of the cliffs where you can watch sea birds nesting whilst you dine.
We had a lovely holiday at La Julerie, we stayed with friends occupying the other gites and all had a wonderful time.
There is a games room, bikes for the children to use and a great all weather swimming pool.
The gite itself was comfortable, clean and was very well equipped with everything you could possibly need.
Very good value for money.
We were a family with three children aged between six and thirteen and had everything provided to keep all of them happy! In a beautiful, peaceful location and only a short drive to some stunning beaches, we would thoroughly recommend and hope to return one day. The owners had put a lot of thought into the layout and facilities provided and were extremely helpful with any information we required.
Swimming pool, indoor play area, table tennis, attractive property, chickens
Not safe for young children unless upstairs window child locks are improved.
