Les Volets Verts is situated in the heart of the historic centre of medieval Dinan on a pretty cobbled street lined with old stone and half timbered houses. The town's main attractions are all within easy walking distance as are some excellent restaurants and bistros.
The house has been renovated to a high standard and retains many original features such as old beams and doors. A modern kitchen and 2 en suite shower rooms make this a comfortable, as well as a characterful, base to explore the well preserved town of Dinan. There's also free wi-fi at the house for you to plan your days and keep on top of your emails.
The house is arranged on 3 levels: on the ground floor there is a spacious living room with kitchen and dining area. There is seating for 4 around the dining table, with a tv receiving Sky free to view channels. An original wooden staircase leads up to the bedrooms: on the first floor there is a king size double bedroom with en suite shower room. On the second floor there is a further bedroom with exposed roof beams, with 2 single beds, and en suite shower room.
Electric radiators throughout the house and heated towel rails in the shower rooms.
We can supply the following options for you:
- Bed linen and towels: 17.50 Euros per person
- Weekly car parking ticket: 20 Euros
- End of stay clean: 40 Euros
Perfect for people who want to get to the heart of a French town. It was a great location for everything in Dinan and it's surroundings. The gite was lovely inside - needs a little bit of tarting up here and there but nothing that would put you off. Be warned - it is opposite a very lively pub that stays open until the small hours - take ear plugs otherwise you will struggle to sleep especially if you are used to living in a quiet area. If you already live in a town and are used to noise at night then this will be no bother.
Facilities - good but kitchen equipment is limited and that was a pity as if you go self-catering you want to have the ability to cook almost as easily as you would at home.
Condition - good - needs a little sprucing up in places but it's a very pretty little gite.
Cleanliness - spotless - no complaints in this area.
Comfort - aside from the noise at night this was good.
Setting - great for central Dinan and Brittany in general. Dinan is an exciting little town and well worth a visit.
Local amenities - all good - except if you are English - remember the French don't 'do' Sunday trading as a rule. Bring some food with you if you arrive on a Sunday.
Value for money - ok - you do have to pay an extra 20 euros for parking (which is a 5-10 minute walk from the gite - but get parking as you can't park in the town), extra for linen (we took our own - warning it is a king size double not a double as advertised - our sheet was too small) and 30 euros for a clean at the end of the stay which we thought was a bit cheeky (but may be normal for self-catering in France but not in my experience).
