We had a wonderful, relaxing holiday in a beautiful Gite, set in the French countryside. As two families with older teenagers, there was plenty of space for all of us, with use of a pool table and pool, which was an added bonus. We also took a springer spaniel, who is quite the escapologist, but was quite safe and secure within the grounds of the Gite. The walks in the surrounding countryside were also great and very safe.
Even though the owners were not on site during our stay (they sometimes are) they were easy to contact if necessary and the pool was inspected by a friend to ensure it was clean and the filter working.
It you want traditional France and peace and quiet, this is place to go. The local village has a friendly pub/small shop and a pizza van and fish and chip van visit once a week. A short distance away are some lovely attractions, suitable for a variety of tastes, including Dinan, a medieval town, with excellent cafes and creperies. The beach is less than an hour's drive, as is Rennes and Mont St Michel takes approx. 90 mins.
The pictures on this site do not do justice to the property.
All ten of us had a fabulous time staying at this property. The description of the farmhouse exceeded our expectations and everything we needed was supplied. The children loved playing in the heated swimming pool even on the cooler days. It was great to have use of the bicycles and several outdoor games which kept the children occupied no end. Another good thing is the property is a short drive away from some really nice beaches/places. The location was so peaceful and relaxing and it was so lovely just chilling out in the huge garden watching the children playing and enjoying themselves. I would definitely recommend this property to my friends and family and would not hesitate on requesting to stay again when I holiday again in this part of France.
There we 9 people in our group and two dogs. Three generations with the youngest being three girls 3, 6, and 8. The house was perfect for a family group like ours, it has large dining tables in both the kitchen and dining room so we were able to eat together. There was also ample room outside to sit and enjoy a BBQ and the evening al Fresco. Eating together is what we love doing on holiday.
The house maintains some fabulous French rustic charm, but is decorated to a high standard for comfort and luxury. The owners have a great eye for style too, some lovely touches make it feel very homely. Two of the staircases have very steep staircases, which wasn't a problem for us, but if you are a little less mobile then its good to be aware.
The girls had endless fun in the pool, on the trampoline, in the treehouse or the slide/swings, they loved it.
Our dogs had the run of the grounds and loved it. It's good to know that the fencing around the perimeter will keep them safe, (even our very keen spaniel).
The owners live onsite, which is something we found very useful, for local info and tips and also for help when we had a power cut etc.. The surrounding area is very rural, agricultural and that suited us, very peaceful and quiet. There is plenty to do further afield within a hours drive.
We'd definitely go back.
The Cider House is a truly excellent place for a holiday. We enjoyed all its facilities. The toddlersand children loved the space, trampoline, pool, slides, swings and more. The grown ups loved the fact the children were able to play safely and happily. The dogs loved the huge grounds; their owners the fact they were safe and could not / would not escape. The joggers had a variety of morning runs. Being 40 / 50 minutes from the range of N Brittany coast beaches and villages was fantastic. We felt at home immediately and that the Cider House was truly ours. Mark and Pip saw to this. They were very helpful with advice. If there had been problems they were on hand.
The house itself was spacious, tasteful and comfortable. Its facilities were modern and comprehensive.
Ten people and two dogs had a very special holiday for which we were very grateful.
The pool table and dart board in the games room was a real bonus.
In the evenings we could actually choose which outdoor area to dine in.
The swimming pool, carefully maintained with its own decking area was likewise a good place to spend time.
Mattheo's pizzas in Langourla on Wednesday were very tasty.
Strangely the TVs seemed to suggest that the English football team lost to Iceland.
Good boulangerie in Collinnee.
We would defintitely recommend it.
The three year old kept saying how the whole place was "amazing".
We recommend the Cider House very highly indeed.
