The unspoilt medieval town of Dinan is very close - about 10 minutes by car. The town has a warren of cobbled streets with some good shops and artists/craftsmens workshops. You can walk around the town walls, visit the castle or sit at a pavement café enjoying a drink. The steep cobble Jerzual street takes you down to the pretty port area, where you can hire a boat to explore the river or a bike and cycle along the river into the countryside.
There are a good number of sandy beaches on the north coast, the two nearest are at Lancieux or St Jacut de la Mer, both are about 20 to 25 minutes drive from the house. Lancieux is a wide gently shelving sandy beach, there is a windsurfing school on the beach. St Jacut is a peninsula with 11 sandy beaches dotted around the headland, all linked by a coastal footpath. There's a number of cafés and restaurants so you can relax with a drink and or snack.
The local area is a great choice if you like cycling - at any level , from beginner to confirmed rider.
The 'voie verte' is a traffic free cycle path running from Dinard down to Rennes following the river Rance and the canal.
There are also several signed cycle routes close by, and, away from the main roads, the network of country lanes is just ideal for cycling - little traffic and a culture that respects bike riders.
You can hire bikes locally in Dinan or Dinard, or bring your own on the ferry - there is plenty of space to store them at the house.
