La Brousse is a Napoleonic site in the Côtes-d'Armor upon which two houses sit amongst really delightful gardens.  Built in 1810, this 2-bedroom cottage formed part of a farmhouse and stables set in an area of outstanding natural beauty and in peaceful surroundings.

La Brousse sits in the commune of Plorec sur Arguenon which has an especially low population density (only 1/6th of that of rural Suffolk): access is by a very quiet country lane. We offer a truly authentic taste of the famed Golden Triangle of Brittany.  A stunning riverside environment and lakeshore are minutes away and the famous Breton beaches within easy reach. In particular, La Brousse is a profoundly quiet space with a magical atmosphere. Almost zero traffic is a bonus and the only vehicles you are likely to see is the postman once a day and the odd farmer's tractor. The rooms are light and spacious and have pretty and cosy garden outlooks. With the house having 360 degree views over our own gardens and, beyond the hedges, private country estate and farmland a very peaceful break is assured.  Local amenities are only 6 minutes away in a car. This region of the Côtes-d'Armor offers many sporting and leisure activities including picturesque (and very safe) cycling, walking, horse riding and world-class coarse fishing on the Arguenon River and at the legendary Jugon Les Lacs. The region of northern Brittany really must be experienced to appreciate the quality of life available.

Kitchen and dining

La Brousse Cottage kitchen is fully equipped with fridge-freezer, washing machine, combi-microwave, electric oven and dual-fuel 4-burner hob. The kitchen has a full inventory and will find every convenience available. The kitchen has a dining table for up to 6 people.

Living rooms

The lounge is dual-aspect with views into the gardens and onto the courtyard. Equipment includes soft seating for 7 adults, two sofas, flat screen tv with all UK channels, audio system and Blu-ray/dvd player.

Bedrooms

The 2 bedrooms comprise a very comfortable king size room and a twin room with adjacent family shower/wc. Both rooms are spacious and command beautiful garden and countryside views through openable Juliette balcony windows and Velux rooflights. A full size cot and high chair are available on request.

Modern heated bathroom with wc, wash basin and shower.

Heating

Heating in all rooms in the winter months is via electric convectors and there is a log-effect fire in the lounge, which will keep you warm through winter breaks.

Entertainment

Flat screen satellite tv (36") in the lounge (all UK channels including UK R
regions). Cd/audio in lounge with input for smartphone/digital devices.
There are a selection of books, magazines, games and dvd/cds to choose from. A folder on local information and attractions will be available.

Garden and outside

Steps lead up to the cottage's own rear garden which has seating (for up to 12) and is particularly suitable for very young children as it is remote from the access lane and courtyard and is very easy to supervise. However, at La Brousse you will have access to very special and very large garden environments designed and built by an award-winning landscaper. There are ample outdoor tables and seating for dining etc. Barbecue available in several convenient parts of the garden.

There is safe, private parking for at least 10 cars to the front of La Brousse on the gravel courtyard.

Visitor suitability

La Brousse is highly suited to small families especially those with very young children. Being a largely silent place it is popular with writers and composers as a retreat.

Why this location? Brittany, especially the Cote D'Armor, is a spectacularly beautiful and peaceful place and is an ideal location for quiet, tranquil breaks. The people, environment and food are all of the highest calibre and the Celtic culture resonates with many parts of UK and north-western Europe.
Unique benefits of property Total silence, stunning, peaceful gardens, solitude. Yet, only 5 minutes away by car is a fully serviced small town and in 20 minutes one can be in the delightfully medieval city of Dinan. The Arguenon River, one of the prettiest in France is 3 minutes in a car and the magnificent Breton Coast is 23 minutes at St Briac Sur Mer. As an operating base, La Brousse is in the centre of a bewildering array of places to visit yet, if you choose, the only activity you will see is the odd passing tractor and the La Poste van every few days.

Food

A basic set of kitchen essentials is provided. Further provisions can be purchased at the mini-market 5 minutes away at Jugon Les Lacs or a very large Hyper-U supermarket in Plancoet for family shopping. Fish and seafood are a speciality of the region and the fish counter at Plancoet is quite a revelation.

Markets

Jugon Les Lacs: Small very local market every Friday morning. Dinan: Fantastic Market for food and everything else on Thursday mornings in Dinan - 22 mins by car). Lamballe: Every Thursday morning - 30 mins by car. Rennes: France’s 2nd largest food market (and possibly it's best) – Every Saturday - Foodie heaven. Other local markets can be found on website. A great day trip - 40 mins each way and a pilgrimage for food-lovers!

Shopping

Jugon Les Lac - 5 mins by car – mini supermarket, two bakers, butcher and several cafes in market place in Jugon Les Lacs. Plancoet: 12 mins by car - HyperU and Petrol Station. Very large and competitive hypermarket which provides anything you may need in the way of food, drink and other items. Dinan: 22 mins by car - A beautiful medieval city awash with top quality shops and cafe/bars. Lots of cheap and free parking: Not to be missed. (All journey times have been road-tested in July and August).

Delightful location in the heart of the countryside, whilst being well placed for the numerous gorgeous beaches, towns and villages. The property was lovely, comfortable and clean, complete with all the amenities that you need for your stay and the setting was stunning. A short 30 minute drive from St Malo for an easy trip over with large supermarkets close by. There is also a local lake with swimming and watersports facilities and lots of ancient towns with bustling markets and restaurants. Hire a boat out at Dinan for a nice day on the river and have a game of mini golf over looking the sea. We would heartily reccomend this property and we will definitely be returning.
