About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Karen Chilver

My husband and I enjoy travelling all over the world and have visited France many times over the years. We now have the pleasure of holidaying with our beautiful Weimaraner Brady, so the accessibility of Brittany coupled with the charm and variety of attractions led to our purchase of Poul Bizic.

Year property purchased 2015
Why this location? The location of Poul Bizic allows easy access to all of Brittany. Located in the midst of farmland with no neighbours to disturb or hear you yet within a few minutes of the village of Corlay - easy for the morning trip for freshly baked bread or croissants and the emergency trip for the evening bottle of wine!
Unique benefits of property We have aimed to ensure that the cottage has all the modern conveniences required to offer a comfortable and relaxing stay whilst still retaining the charm of a traditional building in the heart of the countryside.

Some of the other benefits of Poul Bizic are the large spacious open plan living area, fully equipped kitchen, gym equipment for your use and each bedroom has it's own en suite bathroom.

The Owner Recommends

Our recommendations

With plenty of quiet country lanes, several lakes and pretty woodlands in the area you will find great opportunities for both walking and cycling locally. The fishing lake next to Corlay castle is a great place to walk your dog or go for a jog in the morning. The Lac de Bosméléac is 13km from the cottage and has a circular walk around the lake. You will also find routes along disused railway lines & the Nantes-Brest Canal towpath & coastal trails. Both the Lac de Guerlédan & the Quénécan forest are just 25 minutes away & have numerous trails and paths in beautiful surroundings. The Lac de Guerlédan, the largest lake in Brittany is great for water sports, you can hire kayaks or pedalos or try water-skiing.
If you like fishing, Corlay has 3 fishing lakes and there are several rivers and other small lakes in the area, all of these are well stocked and fishing permits are available locally.
For golfers there are three 9 hole courses within 45 minutes of Corlay.
Two of the best beaches close by are Erquy & Binic on the north coast. Erquy has a lovely expanse of sand on a huge curving bay. You can sail, dive or rent a kayak and there are several cafes & restaurants along the seafront. Binic's Plage de la Banche is one Brittany's longest beaches, it is popular with families and you will find a selection of bars & restaurants near the port.
The town of Quintin is close by and offers 2 chateaux, a weaving museum, watermills and some mysterious megaliths. The village of Les Forges des Salles & the remains of the 12th Century Abbaye de Bon Repos are also near. The medieval town of Pontivy with its moated chateau & half-timbered houses is within 30 minutes.
Venture a little further & you will find the walled town of Dinan, castles, forts, medieval towns, ports, islands, beautiful beaches & coastal views, zoo parks, prehistoric monuments & cider tasting.
You will find an information folder at the cottage giving you plenty of ideas for places to see & things to do.

Poul Bizic is a very peaceful quite cottage with no neighbours, off road secure parking, we did not have many questions but what we did have Karen answered immediately, there is enough garden for two dogs to run and play, although we only had one, the town of Corlay is not to far away you could walk to it but would take a while each way, so we used the car.

Everything you would need for your stay at Poul Bizic is provided, even down to a couple of beefy chews for our dog, but you do have to pay extra for bedding, we took our own as we have plenty of space in the car, the cottage is very spacious upstairs and down, all the bed rooms one of which is downstairs are a very good size and all en-suite, we live in a bungalow in the UK and there was only the two of us so we only used the downstairs, this would be great for the less mobile in your party.

We had a very nice stay at Poul Bizic, but the weather was not very kind to us (rain) that dampend our sprits a little (excuse the pun) we would stay at and recommend Poul Bizic again.

We were very impressed with the gite which was very spacious and well equipped. It offered three en- suite bathrooms which is a must with 2 couples sharing the house and why we chose it.

Poil Bizic is very well appointed with good quality fittings and decoration. It is situated in a very rural location with lovely views and walks. Very friendly cows in the field next to the gite. Unfortunately, the local restaurants in the village only opened at lunch time so we found we had to travel some distance to find restaurants which were open in the evening.

We found we had everything we needed and would certainly recommend Poul Bizic to our friends.

Owner response

Thank you for your review, we are pleased you enjoyed your stay. As you mentioned our beautiful rural location does mean local restaurants that open in the evening can be more difficult to find. However, there are a few in the surrounding villages so we will add a list to our information folder at the house in order to assist future guests.
