|Les Vallees Family Gite in Rural Brittany||Self Catering||Flexible||3||6||3||Two double bedrooms and a twin bedroom|
Situated in a small hamlet in the heart of the rolling Brittany countryside and surrounded by tranquil forests, Les Vallées Gite is a 100+ year old traditional Breton longere (long-house) stone and slate farmhouse that has been tastefully renovated into a comfortable and relaxing holiday home that will be exclusively yours for your stay with us.
Our Breton farmhouse Gite has retained many of the original features such as massive oak beams, a wood burning fire and traditional tiled floors; whilst we've worked hard to make it a family 'home from home' with Sky tv, dvd, a Playstation 3, video and board games in the lounge, central heating and a fully kitted kitchen with everything you'd expect to find at home (even including sandwich boxes for picnic's and kid's plates and cutlery for the little ones)!
Outside there's a large south west facing sun patio and bbq, half an acre of enclosed garden with fruit trees, adult bikes, children's toys, climbing frame and a 15 feet outdoor pool.
The fully fitted kitchen combines the best of a traditional French farmhouse with its huge oak beams, beech working surfaces and hand-made tiles on the splash-backs; and a modern kitchen with halogen downlights, built-in extractor and a full set of appliances.
On one side is the dishwasher, halogen hob, fridge, freezer, 1½-bowl sink, a range of wall and base unit cupboards and shelves with all the pots, pans and utensils you might need.
Built into the cupboards on the opposite side are the double electric fan oven/grill and microwave oven.
At the heart of the Gite is the spacious and comfortable lounge with huge oak beams across the ceiling and carved fireplace over the open log burner.
In front of the fire is the large curved settee and a beautiful hand-made staircase leading to the three bedrooms, upstairs toilet and bathroom.
The lounge also contains a 6-seater dining table for you to enjoy local French cuisine and a sideboard packed full of local maps, tourist guides and information on places to visit.
Upstairs in the Gite are three comfortable bedrooms, the family bathroom with bath and shower, and a separate toilet.
Firstly is the large master bedroom with luxury 4-poster double bed, wooden floors and spacious beech wardrobe. There's plenty of room to spread out, and perhaps enjoy a leisurely holiday lie-in whilst watching Sky tv or a video in bed ?
Next door is the second bedroom with twin beds, oak chest of drawers and wardrobe. This bright room will suit either youngsters or adults.
Both bedrooms have large balcony windows that open over the courtyard and have integral night-time blinds. The master bedroom additionally has twin velux windows that overlook the garden and open fields to both sides of the gite.
Further down the corridor is the third bedroom, with it's iron-framed double bed, with a high ceiling, exposed beams and antique oak wardrobe and chest of drawers.
For children staying in the Gite, two cots are also available, as is a baby monitor and fold-down bedsides for your peace of mind - just ask, there's no extra charge!
We have three bathrooms, two upstairs and one downstairs.
In the downstairs bathroom is a toilet, shower and the washing machine, whilst upstairs is a toilet and a separate bathroom with shower overhead.
Shaving sockets and a hairdryer are available for your use.
As well as the log burner open fireplace in the lounge (we love burning a few logs for a cozy evening in, even in the summer), there is central heating and radiators throughout the Gite.
If you fancy a quiet evening in, there's a large selection of board games, jigsaws and puzzles and also a tv, dvd player, video and a Playstation 3. We have Sky tv so you can keep up with UK news and your favourite soaps; or there's a large collection of movie videos and for the younger guests there's CBeebies or children's videos.
Les Vallees Brittany Gite is situated in a roughly half-acre L shaped enclosed garden, surrounded by the fields and woods of this beautiful part of rural Brittany.
The Gite itself is L shaped with a floodlit gravelled courtyard between the two 'wings' of the Gite and a large open barn on the opposite side. There's plenty of parking space on the courtyard or inside the barn.
We've a large patio stretching the length of one side of the house overlooking the garden with sun-loungers, table & chairs and a bbq - perfect for lazing about and enjoying the peace and tranquillity of rural Brittany!
Beyond the gite and the barn are two large grassed gardens with apple trees and redcurrant bushes, a massive oak tree that must be over a hundred years old, and flower and shrub beds.
For the children, there's plenty of holiday toys with a climbing frame and swings, a 15 foot outdoor splash pool, a 10 foot outdoor trampoline, a slide, see-saw, and a large selection of toys and bikes.
There is ample on site parking on the floodlit gravelled courtyard between the two wings of the Gite for several cars.
The Gite is particularly suitable for families of all ages with plenty of toys, games and equipment for children including high chair, cot, folding bed sides and a baby monitor.
Over the years we have welcomed couples and families of all ages and sizes to stay with us. There are however two steps into the Gite from either side so regrettably we are probably not suitable for wheelchair users.
Geoffrey and Liz are a Bedfordshire based couple with two children and a dog.

We enjoy holidaying in France (naturally), Liz enjoys Horse riding and Geoffrey is a Microlight pilot.

|Why this location?||Les Vallees is in a tranquil Brittany Hamlet of just 6 houses, close to medieval towns like Pontivy and Josselin and only 40 minutes from either the North or South Brittany coasts.|
|Unique benefits of property||Our comfortable Gite has plenty of room and a large garden for you and your family, there's lots of period features and all the mod-cons you would expect of a holiday home.|
Winding down the cobbled hill in Josselin just a half hour drive from our Gite is a great street market every Saturday morning.
The town centre is taken over with every conceivable type of stall you can think of - whether it's fresh fruit, vegetable's, ham, pate's or cheeses being sold directly by the farmer; tables, chairs and beds being sold out of a van, or live hens and chickens clucking in cardboard boxes - you'll be able to buy it all on the market !
Once you've strolled and bought a few items there's several cafes to sit back, enjoy a drink, and of course a delicious traditional Breton crepe, before you venture forth again !
Just 15 minutes away is the Aquatides swiming centre.
For all year round fun whatever the weather the whole family will love Les Aquatides swimming centre where as well as the 25m swimming pool you'll find a 70m long water slide, a lagoon of bubbles, geysers and fountains, several rivers to swim through as well as a jacuzzi and spa-bath and children's water area.
After all the exertions in the water there's a mezzanine floor cafeteria and spa to relax in.
Just over an hours drive from our French holiday cottage, Le Mont St-Michel towers over the countryside for miles around like a mythical creature rising out of the sea and has become a popular tourist attraction with over three million tourists visiting each year.
Situated one kilometre off the coast of Normandy, the rocky island houses the famous eighth-century Norman Benedictine Abbey of St-Michel at its peak that over the centuries has been both a site of spiritual pilgrimage and battle.
Named a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1979, the island is one of the most exceptional examples of religious and military architecture from the Middle Ages - hardly surprising therefore that Le Mont St-Michel became the inspiration the mystical Minas Tirith in The Lord of the Rings movies!
Lac au Duc is the largest lake in Brittany and is just 20 minutes drive from our Gite.
There's a sandy beach, swimming in the lake, lakeside cafe and children's play area. You can rent canoes, kayaks and sailing dingy's by the hour or day, or you could book water skiing !
There are dozens of medieval towns and village in our part of rural Brittany.
Josselin and Pontivy were both seats of the Dukes of Rohan and have imposing chateau that are open to visitors.
The impressive Château de Josselin was originally constructed of wood around 1000AD, and has been added to and rebuilt a number of times over the next 500 years. Henry II destroyed most of it in 1168. The Chateau was extensively restored in the 19th Century and in more recent times Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother has stayed there.
Guided tours around some of the Chateau's extravagantly-decorated rooms run from April to September and twice a day the tours are in English.
Immediately outside the Chateau in the converted stables is the Musée de la Poupée (Doll's Museum) which houses a collection of over 500 antique dolls and dolls' furniture.
Adjacent to the centre of La Cheze the river Lié forms a wide lake before it cascades down a weir and flows on towards our Gite.
In winter the rapid flowing river between Le Vaublanc and La Cheze is used for Canoe and Kayak slalom competitions. In summer recreational canoeing is available as well from the outdoor sports centre at Plemet, and hiring a canoe for the 10km down-stream course through the Forest of Loudeac costs just few Euro's and includes a guide and mini-bus transport back to the start.
The Nantes to Brest canal passes about 5 miles away from our Gite.
At Josselin you can rent canoes and mountain bikes, or you can borrow any of the Gite bikes for a leisurely cycle ride and picnic along the towpaths.
In nearby La Cheze, just 2 km from our Gite, is a scrummy creperie that serves galette (buckwheat) pancakes and crepes. Our favourite restaurant, we visit every time we're in France.
A comfortable family home in a beautiful setting. Well equipped for our two year old and 5 month old grandsons and well placed for exploring the coasts of north and south Brittany. Being able to access British TV during the Rio Olympics was a bonus. Would recommend to families. Wifi would be beneficial to research places of interest although the owners provide a comprehensive guide to the property and and surrounding area.
