Saint Malo is also a wonderful town to discover with its fort, ramparts and beaches and then there is the lively Jugon Les Lacs with its 4km long lake located right on your doorstep, which offers watersports, fishing and a fantastic safe man-made beach, not forgetting the fantastic waterpark with fun slides both inside & out.

The Owner Recommends

Dinan

Wow Dinan, what an amazing place, it is quite simply enchanting! This character filled walled Breton town with its quirky cobblestone paved streets and traditional timbered medieval houses, can easily be reached from the farmhouse, with just a short 15-20 minute drive along the mostly quiet scenic roads to the historical centre. Famous for its beautiful port, Dinan offers its visitors a romantic atmosphere, particularly when you take a stroll down possibly one of the most stunning ‘Diagon Alley’ style streets, Rue de Jerzual (which was Dinan’s main point of access until the 1800’s) with its many art galleries and craft shops – this special street leads directly from the heart of the historical centre to the Rue du Petit Port. This beautiful setting deserves to be appreciated not only by couples, but also by families and groups of friends. There are lots of cafes, restaurants, creperies, patisseries, brasseries and everything else you may wish to find in a beautiful French town.

Its also worth checking out the weekly market held every Thursday morning held on the big car park square, near the tourism office or the flea market held every Wednesday in July and August. You can also take a boat trip from Dinard or St Malo to the port of Dinan or take a ride on one of the fun sight-seeing trains.

Le Mont Saint-Michel

This place is definitely a must-see if you’re staying or thinking about visiting the remarkable and astonishing region of Brittany and is easily accessible being less than an hours drive from our luxury farmhouse!

Le Mont Saint-Michel is undoubtedly one of France’s most recognisable and notable landmarks. It’s a great place to spend the day enjoying the feeling of ‘going back in time’, meandering through the medieval cobbled streets taking in the wonderful history and ambiance.

There is so much to see and do from exploring the many museums, shops and surrounding beaches and dining in one of the lovely sea view restaurants whilst watching the tide come in plus don’t forget to stop for a refreshing espresso and crepe to help fuel your trek to the top!

The ramparts are also a perfect place to enjoy the magical sun sets and the views from the top of the Abbey are simply breathtaking – the audio guide is a great way to appreciate the full history of the island and find out about the many wonders.

Le Mont Saint Michel is thought to date back to the 8th Century AD. It is an Island Commune only accessible at low tide due to being positioned 600m from the mainland. It is located in Normandy near the border to Brittany and a kilometer off the north west coast of France. The island covers almost 250 acres and has a population of around 45.

At the very top is the Abbey, Monastery and Great Halls and the bottom part of the islands consists of the Farmers and Fisherman’s houses. This historic site is world famous by its Abbey, dedicated to archangel Saint Michel.

Fishing at Jugon Les Lacs or just a great day out

As well as being a beautiful ‘must see’ place to visit during any trip to Brittany, Jugon is often referred to as being like an oasis in a sea of greenery, its a stunning architectural heritage site well worth a visit and just 10 mins from the farmhouse!

Jugon-les-Lacs designated a ‘City of Character’ is also famous for its abundant fishing lake with almost 150 acres of water. The lake is fed from several rivers including the Rosette. The main fish species abundant in the lake include large Carp and Pike, Perch, Zander, Bream, Roach, White Fish and also Black Bass. Due to the shallow edges of the lake they can be easily fished.

Jugon Lake offers fantastic fishing for professionals and beginners alike with many different types of fishing to be enjoyed from Trout and Carp fishing to Predator Fishing. You can rent boats and fishing equipment from The Maison Pêche et Natureor or simply fish from one of the peaceful pontoons, accessible to all with a permit from the Maison Peche.
