About this property

A Real Little Gem in a Fabulous Location. This cottage/gite is in a town setting.

This is a real little gem of a property. Situated in a charming tranquil location on a little cobbled street, yet only a two minute walk to the bars, restaurants and River Rance, a mirror image of the well known rue Jerzual which is virtually opposite, but without all the hustle and bustle.

Overlooking the ramparts and chateau of Dinan from the gardens as well as a fabulous view from the main bedroom of the XIV building.

The gite is detached and has it's own parking area within the garden. There is also private street parking on a no through road.

Beautifully renovated to a very high standard, yet retaining many original features, beautiful oak beams, stone walls and timber flooring.

The large lawned garden can be accessed from the first floor, and there is also a walled courtyard garden within the old ruin and accessed directly from the living area.

Fully equipped with everything you will need as well as an abundance of information on activities and places to visit.

The gite sleeps 4 comfortably in 2 bedrooms.

You can walk directly into the centre via rue Jersual or take 5 mins drive into town.

Located within a 30 minute drive of two main airports and the port of St Malo, some stunning beaches and fabulous coastline, as well as Rennes the capital of Brittany, and Dinard the Nice of the north. It's only just over a two hour drive from Caen and Cherbourg and 45 minutes to Le Mont St Michel.

There are many excellent golf courses close by, many watersports and other sport facilities. You can hire a boat or canoe at the port or hire a bike, with tow paths leading all the way to Nantes or directly to the coast.

The ancient Rue De L'Abbaye at the port of Dinan is an idyllic place to stay.

Kitchen and dining

Fitted cream shaker style kitchen, with oak beams, electric oven and gas hob, fridge and freezer, microwave, toaster and a Senseo coffee-machine, for the perfect cup of coffee.

It's fully equipped with every utensil you will need, as well as tea, coffee and milk. The dining area has a painted pine table and cream chairs to seat 4 comfortably.

There is a large cupboard with vacuum cleaner, brush, dustpan, mop and bucket.

Living rooms

Living area with exposed stone work and oak beams and a pretty fireplace, just for the ambiance, this is not a working fire.

There is a door leading out to the walled garden and bbq area over looking the chateau, a perfect place for an evenings "apero" (aperitif) and access to the front parking area.

Comfortable sofas and English tv, a dvd player, with a large selection of films.

There are games and books for the children and grown ups, as well as lot’s of information on places to see, restaurants to visit, maps and directions to make your visit as easy and as enjoyable possible.

There are 2 bedrooms, both with beamed ceilings.

The main one is furnished with an original French painted bed, bedside cabinets with side lamps, a large wardrobe, dressing table, chair and hair dryer. Wake up in the morning with a view over the chateau, ramparts, and church.

The other room with feature stone work has pretty metal French beds, wardrobe, dressing table and chair. Views over the front garden and to the little bridge.

Bed linen is included and both bedrooms have curtains.

The shower room is fully tiled in white and it is fitted with a traditional good quality white suite, sink, toilet and a double size shower, with good quality fittings.

There is a window to the rear garden with wooden blind and shelf unit for towels etc. and a washing bin.

Hand wash and towels are provided.

A large selection of books and games for adults, children and babies and also some garden games.

Garden and outside

There is a large fenced and gated garden with a lawn and flower beds which is accessible via steps from the front parking area, or directly from the first floor landing. Here you will find a bench, table and chairs as well as deck chairs, which makes it a perfect place to sit in the morning sun for breakfast, and is private with views over the chateau and ramparts.

The old ruin now forms a walled garden, accessed from the living room with a bbq, table, chairs and parasol, very private and again overlooking the chateau. It's perfect for an evening "apero".

Parking and garages

At the front of the house and within the garden, is a gravelled parking area. There is also private parking on the road for residents only.

Visitor suitability

The house is suitable for all ages but is not wheelchair friendly and, sorry, but we don't take pets.

About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Sharon Wolfenden

After holidaying in France for years, we bought a holiday home, then in 2004, we decided to give our children a better quality of life & a less stressful one for us too, so we upsticks & moved lock stock & barrel. We've never looked back, we love the family values, food, wine, of course and the chilled way of life. Living so close to the coast, not only for the beaches, we have the accessabilty for the ferries to the UK & also 2 airports just 30mins away. <br/>The people are incredibly friendly.

Year property purchased 2008

Every thing we expected from the description and pictures. Excellent location within minutes walk of bars and restaurants and 10minutes walk, albeit up a steep but beautiful hill lined with medieval buildings, to the centre of Dinan.

Highly recommend property in a superb location.

The owners were very helpful and informative about the bite and surrounding area including offering to book a table at the local restaurants.

Lovely gite in a super location, 2 minutes walk to the River Rance and lots of great bars and restaurants. Well equipped and nicely furnished to a high standard- exactly as advertised. Very clean and well maintained. The 2 gardens mean you can catch the morning sun as well as the evening. A short walk up the hill and you are in the centre of Dinan with its many galleries, artists and shops. A stroll or cycle along the River Rance takes you to Léhon with an outdoor swimming pool, church and restaurant. Boats & kayaks can be hired down at the port as well as catching passenger boats to Dinard and St Malo. Daily visits to my lovely little patisserie 2 mins across the bridge for the morning croissants!
Sharon was friendly and very helpful during the booking process as well as during the stay. Lots of information is available at the gite about local attractions worth visiting. A bottle of wine as well as milk, tea and coffee was waiting for us on arrival.
We had a great holiday in this gite and would definitely recommend to friends and family- in fact we hope to visit again.

8.7 / 10 ade 30 July, 2018

We would definitely stay again.

The gite does not look much from the outside, but for a late teenager family of four it was really great. With the port and restaurants on the doorstep yet sufficiently shielded, in our opinion the gite occupies the best location to stay in Dinan (worth noting there is a lot of up hill walking to the main town from the port).

Pluses... location; comfortable; surprisingly large garden; the owners were the most helpful people; despite hot temperatures the gite did not get too hot

Downsides... getting our 4x4 in the drive was tight (due to neighbour parking); the garden needed a little attention; another two deck chairs would have been good; one bathroom

Recommended places to visit:
Under 45mins: Mont saint Michel; Saint-Jacut-de-la-Mer; Cap d'Erquy; Fort la Latte; Cap Fréhel,
Under 1.5hrs: Grand Site Naturel de Ploumanac'h Perros-Guirec Phare de Men Ruz (worth the drive)

July 2018. The description was accurate. House is very well maintained inside & out. Clean & well prepared for our arrival. Local owner on hand to meet us on arrival & maintained good communications throughout stay. Would recommend the property in general though not for (a) disabled or infirm nor (b) little children. Local activities, restaurants etc. all excellent & an easy walk. Walk up to main town not for the faint hearted though. Cobble street, very steep hill. We would definitely return.
