Dinan Things to Do

Located in northwestern France, Dinan is a medieval city from top to bottom. Many of the medieval structures are still very well preserved in Dinan and account for the majority of things to do in the town.

Basilica Saint-Sauveur

Originally built in the 12th century, the basilica has been through several renovations, extensions, and updates in its existence. During the French Revolution, the basilica was even used to store hay. The basilica today is open for tourists to explore its beautiful architecture and collection of stained glass windows. Within the basilica there is a tomb that contains the heart of Bertrand du Guesclin. Bertrand was an historically important knight of France who lived in the 14th century.

The entire old town of Dinan is surrounded by ramparts that were built in the 13th century. Walk along the tops of the town walls in certain parts. All told, the ramparts are about 2 miles in length. Walking along the walls will lead to various towers and gates to the city. By walking along the ramparts, tourists are able to gain a new perspective looking at the medieval town below. Dinan Chateau. It is a really beautiful town and well worth exploring
