|La Petite Longere||Self Catering||Flexible||1||2||1|
The original house end of this traditional Breton granite longhouse (the rest of which was once used to stable horses) has been extensively renovated to create a holiday home just for couples, where it is easy to unwind and let go of the pressures of modern life whilst enjoying the comfort of this spacious one bedroom ground floor gite with far reaching rural views.
The relaxing location is ideal for walkers, cyclists and birders, whilst also providing a well equipped home from home base for guests wishing explore the many attractions that Brittany has to offer.
The kitchen is comprehensively fitted with appliances and equipment necessary for self-catering on a year-round basis, including double sink unit, large oven and hob, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge-freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster, coffee- maker and food mixer.
The indoor dining table and chairs are in the area of the large living room that is closest to the kitchen and another dining set is outside on the patio.
The large living room has a dining area at one end plus 2 sofas and a rocking chair at the other, with a woodburner and flat screen tv also installed.
Through frenchdoors to the patio the far reaching rural views can be enjoyed.
The bedroom has a double bed (2m long), mirror, lots of storage space, bedside table tables and lamps, and 2 easy chairs beside another set of frenchdoors.
The shower room was refitted in December 2017 and includes wc, sink with mirror, light and power point above, shower cubicle and bathroom cabinet.
As well as the efficient woodburner in the living room there are electric panel heaters in the living room and bedroom, along with towel radiators in the kitchen and shower room.
The television receives UK free-to-air television and radio channels via satellite, there is also a dvd/cd player available.
The living bookcase is packed with a varied selection of books, discs, boardgames and local information.
Both sets of frenchdoors open onto a private area with patio that has a built-in bbq and outdoor dining set along with 2 zero-gravity recliners.
Low growing shrubs, wild flowers and herbs surround the patio and there is a small grassed area between them and an open paddock that has a few oak and cider apple trees dotted along the perimeter.
There is on-site parking opposite the gite and lockable storage space available on request for guests with cycles.
La Petite Longere has level access and is single storey, so is suitable for guests wishing to avoid stairs, but please note there are no specific facilities for wheelchair users.
The area is popular with walkers, cyclists, anglers and birders.
Sorry, children or pets are not accepted in this property.
Adaptor sockets for UK plugs are provided in the livingroom and bedroom, USB charging points are also available.
Several memorable visits to France for holidays meant that when the time came to move on and slow life down Brittany was top of the list and it has certainly not disappointed. Having carried out the original renovation of the property, and living in the same hamlet as the gite means any ongoing maintenance required receives the same personal attention.

This natural attraction is less than 1 km from La Petite Longere and is really worth walking to, although it can also be accessed by car. It is an ancient stepping stone crossing over the River Lie which runs through the valley below the gite. The stones are used by deer coming from the forest to graze on the opposite bank. There is a footpath which meanders alongside the river past an historic water mill and a traditional bread oven, which have been restored by the local community.
It is one of those places where time stands still and leaves you feeling refreshed and relaxed.
Excellent creperie with a Galette menu that extends beyond the normal ham & egg filling - we particularly enjoy the salmon and leek version followed by flambeed banana crepe all washed down with locally produced cider.
Originally the village cafe/bar/tabac, the innovative owner (the third generation of the same family to run it) has extended the premises into a neighbouring property and now provides tasty daily lunches and some evening meals - the steak frites have been particularly recommended by several previous guests, along with friendly service.
There are also regular live music evenings.
This award winning restaurant offers exceptionally well priced (from 15€ for 3 excellent courses plus amuse bouche) evening meals at the weekend as well as weekday lunches. With a variety of defined spaces in the restaurant, it caters both for intimate meals for couples and celebrations for larger groups.
The delicatessen next door is owned by the same chef and is also worth a visit.
A visit to this restaurant is a must if you enjoy Moules Frites - their menu offers several different sauces with the muscles in additional to the traditional mariniere recipe. They also have a tasty selection of other meat and fish based alternatives for anyone not chosing the house speciality.
It is lovely here! The perfect setting for a peaceful relaxing holiday. We loved the Gite & everything about it, there was everything we could possibly need & more.
The stone walls, almost a metre thick & wide window sills, definitely added to the french feeling.
The rooms were all spacious & comfortable & the large patio gave views over the surrounding countryside.
We were very lucky with the weather & because there was no light pollution, looking at the night sky, including the Milky Way was amazing.
There are plenty of interesting places to visit within a 50 mile radius, & others such as Mont St Michel, & Perros Guirec further afield. Equally with many local walks & such a pleasant base, there was no need to travel far unless you wish to do so.
The information provided by the owners from the moment of booking was extremely helpful.
We would recommend La Petite Longere to future guests without hesitation.
Thank you Carolyn, it was a pleasure to welcome you both to central Brittany, we are glad to know that you enjoyed your holiday in the longere.
This is the second year in which we have stayed for a week in this charming, well set-up, and peaceful accommodation. That we have made a return visit indicates the suitability of this property in the middle of Brittany for older couples. The owners as always were most helpful. La Petite Longere is well worth the money.
